For my 21st birthday, I went to Taco Mac with my parents and a few friends and had a few beers. My buddy's 21st was a week later, so we went out and his brother and brother in law tried to get us to pass out at random bars. His was way better.

Also, you will probably be carry 1 of them out of the bar at some point due to you not being as drunk as them for 2 reasons. Alcohol tolerance and not drinking past that tolerance out in public.

Grew up near Canada only had to reach 19. Then we had to wait for the last friend to turn 21 so we could stop going to Canadian bars.

One time, I was helping my friends set up for a party they were gonna have at their apartment. Everyone there, except for me, was under 21, so I had to buy the booze (we all chipped in to buy a keg and some 5ths). Party starts, and it's awesome. About 25 people in a apartment not meant for more then 10. Inevitably, things got loud and the cops were called for a noise complaint. If either of those cops decided to make any sort of effort to do their job, I would have been fucked over for probably the rest of my life. Fortunately, they told us to be quiet and went on their way, and we all got mexican food. Great night.

I was the last of my group of friends to turn 21, and that was just as bad. So many times I'd get a call: "Hey, Solomaxwell6, we're all going out to the local bar tonight, wanna come?" And then I'd have to remind them that I still couldn't legally drink, and I'd get to spend my Friday night alone. :(

When I started in film school (in Vancouver, Canada), a lot of people in my school were from the states, and were extremely happy to be able to join us at the bars and pubs. When they graduated (one year program) and went back home, where they couldn't drink, it was both funny and sad.

I know the feeling well. Now that all of my friends are 21 though it seems we have to wait until all of their girlfriends are 21 because if they know we are out drinking, they want to go. Which rules out bars for us. It's back to lame nights in the basement because girls throw hissy fits.

In New Zealand, the legal age to buy alcohol is 18, so this was me - until I actually had to buy alcohol for them and carry it back.
