          I used to be more tolerant (and even sypathetic) for this type of person, but then I started selling medicare products. After meeting with thousands of "disabled" families where the parents and children all receive checks in the mail plus medicare and usually medicaid (which pays for 100% of medical costs with no premiums) from the government, just looking at this cartoon makes me cringe. I could go on and on about it, but basically, it costs the rest of us a lot of money, and it only serves to encourage the further deterioration of their lives.

          I can feel myself getting fatter and dumber as time goes on. When I was a teenager, man, I knew everything! My dad would say that all the time to me, "Son. You just know everything, don't you?" Damn right, old man. I had my youth, my young Sean Connery good looks, and most importantly, my 17 year old brain.

          A decade later, I realize I know nothing. As for the fatness, I live really close to a 7-11 and those nachos are the best fucking things ever.

              Most of my international friends in grad school hold a contempt for a lot of American things/practices. Quite often I find them to be just as biased, racist and lazy as an any American commoner-and these are some of the brightest minds from Asia and Europe. Of course, this applies to me an American as well.

                You know this might be a bizarre non sequitur but I just don't understand the contempt that reddit, a largely progressive-liberal community, has for the lower class of the United States. When you are making about thirty thousand dollars a year Wal-Mart is where you shop, hunting is a relatively cheap and sometimes useful activity, and you have pride in your community and country because you can't afford to be a world weary student taking a few years off to avoid paying an $80,000 student loan.

                                While it should be noted that reddit is not as many refer to it; one big hive-mind, it is very evident that reddit has contempt for reddit. This is partly because many of us are filled with self-loathing. This frame of mind clashes with any sort of "pride in your community" mindset. So that's where some of it comes from.

                                          Well, I don't think it is as much of a reproach against the people who end up being in question (fat people, poor people, etc), but against the idea that the things that bring about these results should be embraced as some sort of "that's what makes this country so great" type shit. This is satire; humor with a purpose. When 36% of your population is obese--especially given that particular triage waves the American flag the highest--then yes, obesity is a component of American culture. And it doesn't matter how poor you are, nobody is making anybody drink five sodas a day.

                                          To allow this to count as good satire, you first have to admit that the stuff you see in this picture is a problem/wrong. It's the absurdity that makes this comic good. It's not a comic about a war-crazed fatass, it's a comic about a dude that seems to be vehemently defending his own right to be a war-crazed fatass, without really any consideration for why 300,000,000 of those might not comprise "the best country in the world."

                                          It's a method of reasoning that we see everyday in the American political landscape. Politician 1: X is an emerging problem, and we should explore potential solutions. Politician 2: You see people, clearly, Politician 1 does not believe in our freedom to carry out X. Such a view is an encroachment on our liberties!
