The burden of proof is irritating but it is easy to prove someone can't fly, especially if you are on a roof.

You can push a bird off a roof too. That doesn't mean it can't fly.
This is true but if you push a guy off a roof and he doesn't start flying the reasonable conclusion would obviously be that he can fly he would prefer falling.

Wait, we don't have burden of proof. I'm taking a Philosophy of Religion course and my professor says that the burden of proof is always on the theist.

I agree, but a lot of people even some here on r/atheism seem to think differently for some reason, but for me with no evidence at all god doesn't exist to me.

Well, what I learned in my philosophy class is that "God" is logically possible but just as much logically possible as anything else that can't be proven. My professor also says that we take a lot of things for faith in science as well as religion, which is fine (I'd rather trust the scientists who gather evidence any day).The theists and atheists who claim that the burden of proof is on the atheists are wrong according to philosophy.
Difference with faith in science though is we have some basis for whatever these things are, i have faith there's other intelligent life in the universe based on the vast numbers of galaxies and stars etc, but faith in god relies on nothing at all.

As a side note, I can't stand it when anyone says "burden of proof", or "onus". It just sounds douchey. Almost every time it's used, it's by someone who doesn't have any proof for their own argument, but are convinced they win the argument because you don't have any proof either.
On the subject of the god i don't see a problem using burden of proof, its such a crazy claim you cant expect anyone to take you seriously with no evidence at all.
Yes we don't have any evidence against it either but they are claiming something not me, i don't have any evidence fairies and unicorns aren't real but i'm pretty sure we all know they aren't. You cant prove something that's not real isn't real, but based on nothing at all to show otherwise its safe to say its not.
