Oils and dirt collect in the folds. The little guy in the picture will grow into his skin but the wrinkles in his face will stay and those will need to be cleaned or else it starts to stink.

I used to work at a vet's office, and one day we had some sort of wrinkle-dog (shar pei maybe?) in there....it stunk to high heaven and had MAGGOTS in the folds of its skin. EW EW EW NOPE NOPE.

Was the dog okay? I'm curious if this dog was a stray or if it had owners, which would make me question how the owners could let it get that bad.

It had owners. They were just clueless people and I have no idea how they let it get that bad. You seriously couldn't be in the same room with it, we had to open up all the windows in the animal hospital and were still gagging. Probably just some backyard dog they mostly ignored.

Ya, this is pretty prevalent in Bulldogs because of all the moisture that happens around their face. Couple this with the fact that they need water available 24/7, and it's a recipe for bad face smell. Though this is manageable with routine baths and daily facial cleaning (usually baby wipes around the aggravated areas do the trick).

Besides if you get them from a good breeder, they don't snort that much, and farting has to do with what you feed them.

He eats special dog food, for dietary purposes I guess (it hasn't helped his figure one bit in my opinion). Evidently it gives him the Farts. He also has to be monitored when fed, he eats so fast he almost died once. Step mom had to pull a big ball of food out of his throat after he stiffened up and keeled over.

Has anyone here ever played a game called British Bulldog? I remember playing it at a beach during camp. One persons starts in the middle while everyone else runs across the playing field in waves. The person in the center has to grab someone and raise off them off the ground counting "1-2-3-British Bulldog!" Then the captured person remains in the center for the rest of the game also grabbing people. This keeps going as more and more people are grabbed and raised off the ground and kept in the center. The last person to get caught is the winner and starts the next game in the center. Good times.

That's due to irresponsible breeders. In norway, at least, the breed standard is different than many other countries. HP isn't more common than others breeds, wrinckle over the nose is smaller, nostrils are bigger, they give birth naturally, healthy hearts and healthy bodies. Many people still want to get the cute dogs a little cheaper and import them from eastern europe. Those bulldogs are often unhealthy. Be responsible and research the breeders.
