Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

Rapture?

[–]BigMacCombo 2 points3 points ago

He had to choose where he wanted to go scuba diving, so he chose the impossible.

[–]TheW0rld1sMyCanvas 1 point2 points ago

Would you kindly, go diving?

[–]NapAddict 1 point2 points ago

That is the first thing I thought hahah.

[–]Daftsoul 0 points1 point ago

Hi peter

[–]BurtReynoldsWrap 8 points9 points ago

Where is this??!

[–]firestar_soundsystem 12 points13 points ago

I've seen this in person. It's in Berlin in a hotel, there's an elevator that goes through the middle! http://www.vagabondish.com/worlds-largest-aquarium-berlin/

[–]ratajewie -1 points0 points ago

The link gave me a pop up. I now resent you and may god have mercy on your soul. <3

[–]LukeA71 0 points1 point ago

Just there last month. Loved it!

[–]Jigsus 0 points1 point ago

Can you just walk in?

[–]lgc90 4 points5 points ago

[–]ForrealMcNeil 2 points3 points ago

Someone actually just made another reedit post about this place. The first comment has some interesting info about it. http://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/r8bcy/the_aquadom_in_berlin_germany/

[–]nonplayer 8 points9 points ago

Blitzball!

[–]Rambling518 0 points1 point ago

Go Besaid Aurochs!!!!

[–]kittenpaws 12 points13 points ago

I feel scared just looking at this.

[–]sunshine0540 9 points10 points ago

YES. Cross between heights, claustrophobia, open water.... eek.

[–]ig_88 5 points6 points ago

all things that excite me.

[–]cyu12 2 points3 points ago

yeah seems like it would be fucking awesome. Also, I wonder what it would be like to be inside an aquarium but really high up off the ground at the same time.

[–]ig_88 0 points1 point ago

i know i was just thinking about how cool that would be. i've never been scuba diving before (though i would love to, and i should because i live 2 seconds away from the ocean) but even just swimming that high up would be amazing i bet.

[–]bringmethediscoking 2 points3 points ago

Oh i've been in that twice now! it's amazing! two floors in the glass elevator! madness!

[–]TheWambat 2 points3 points ago

Adding this to my bucket list.

[–]aazav 1 point2 points ago

What? The one posted 4 hours before you wan't good enough?

Just out of curiosity, would you experience the same pressure effects going deeper into this tank that you would going deeper into the ocean?

It's probably a stupid question, but eh, I'll risk sounding stupid for a good answer.

[–]Sheepz 7 points8 points ago

Yes, you would experience the same increase in atmospheres in both cases. Ocean water and aquarium water weigh the same leading to the same depth/pressure properties.

[–]LittleInfidel 3 points4 points ago

I didn't realize the pressure was due to the weight of the water.

Seems like common sense now, though. Thanks for answering my question :)!

[–]gryphonnz 0 points1 point ago

Yup.

[–]LittleInfidel 0 points1 point ago

Thanks :)!

[–]BagOnuts 0 points1 point ago

Short answer: Yes.

[–]LittleInfidel 2 points3 points ago

Condensed: Great reddit comments, terrible milk.

[–]ElToroFuerte 0 points1 point ago*

I was wondering the same thing, but I can't think it'd be the same.

Edit: Thought about it. Then thought about how my ears would hurt as a kid sitting at the bottom of the deep end. Yeah, there'd be pressure.

[–]wtiger46 -1 points0 points ago

You'd be wrong

[–]Hire_Me_Please 0 points1 point ago

I want this job!

[–]OldGreyTroll 4 points5 points ago

U.S. Aquariums have volunteer programs where scuba divers spend time working inside the big exhibits. Feeding, cleaning, maintenance, and presentations. If you have the time, it is a Great gig!

[–]missredd 0 points1 point ago

I've done this job! Although in much (MUCH) smaller tanks.

[–]CAFoggy 0 points1 point ago

Actually he's just cleaning this

[–]IAmACollegekid 0 points1 point ago

Tom Cruise in Ghost Protocol.

[–]jorellh 0 points1 point ago

keep the tank away from the glass.

[–]DuoSonicSamurai 0 points1 point ago

Killerwhaletank

[–]corylew 0 points1 point ago

And I thought changing the water on my reef tank was a bitch.

[–]Tomoya-kun 0 points1 point ago

We got to do this at Seaworld San Antonio at one of there adventure camps. It was by far one of the best experiences of my life.

[–]TheW0rld1sMyCanvas 0 points1 point ago

Yup. Blitzball!

[–]lafkak 0 points1 point ago

I've stayed in this hotel. It's awesome! XD

[–]huggamutt 0 points1 point ago

Oh my god. I have always wanted to go scuba diving but I have a great fear of open water. THIS. SOLVES. EVERYTHING!

[–]carbonnanotube 0 points1 point ago

Your fear of open water tends to go away when you actually know what is on the bottom.

[–]huggamutt 1 point2 points ago

A 40ft squid?!

[–]carbonnanotube 2 points3 points ago

Generally there is nothing. There have been VERY few cases of wildlife killing divers in the history of the sport. It is not the wildlife that will kill you, it is your own judgment.

[–]qtrules 0 points1 point ago

i want to go to there....

[–]adish 0 points1 point ago

how do you build something like that? it cant be just one piece of glass right?

[–]abngeek 0 points1 point ago

Pretty sure it's plexi, which I assume could be cast in place at whatever size they wanted.

[–]alexbstl 0 points1 point ago

It's probably Acryllic glass, which is typically used in Aquariums

[–]circasurvivor 0 points1 point ago

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

[–]ReallyObvious 0 points1 point ago

If someone broke it, that diver would probably die. If you got stuck in the hole in the glass you'd get ripped up by the pressure.

[–]alexbstl 2 points3 points ago

I'm not sure that would happen; it depends on how deep he is. 1 atmosphere of water (2 atm) is equal to about 33 feet of water, which is deeper than your typical aquarium tank. If he's under less than that, or even around that, he'd probably be fine. Keep in mind the pressure differential between the outside and the inside of the tank is relatively low, and a rupture in the tank would probably not cause an explosive decompression. Additionally, the pressure is actually lower outside of the tank, which means the water would simply leak out of the tank along the pressure gradient.

[–]jewbageller 0 points1 point ago

Well that's just isn't as cool. But thanks for the info.

[–]alexbstl 0 points1 point ago

I dunno, but if knew that not only my life but the integrity of my body rested on a few hundred square feet of acryllic glass not breaking, I'd be less inclined to want to dive in a big fishtank...

[–]alexbstl 0 points1 point ago

Did you know you can dive at the big fishtank/Aquarium at Epcot in Disney World? Its called Epcot DiveQuest and I've been guilty of going a few times... its a lot of fun pretending to be part of the attraction to all the visitors.

[–]MrMagnet 0 points1 point ago

I went scuba diving in an aquarium at the Epcot Center a few years ago that was surrounded by a restaurant and viewing area. Really great experience, and I would encourage anyone capable of doing so to do it!

[–]redhooder 0 points1 point ago

I want to have sex in there.

[–]TheAfflicted 0 points1 point ago

I don't know why but scuba diving terrifies me. Like not even the water/drowning part... but the fact that I can see the fish and they're right there. I have NO idea why it freaks me out.

[–]DrunkMc 0 points1 point ago

Oh man, I'd love to dive there!!

[–]kacattack 0 points1 point ago

reef diving in 10 years... "Welcome to Atlantis... Cleveland" (sorry Cleveland, I just hate how you got rid of Lebron)

[–]libbykino 0 points1 point ago

One of my favorite dives of all time was at the Living Seas Aquarium at Epcot in Disney World. The coral is fake, but there is still plenty of neat wildlife to view, all while tourists are watching you from the other side of the glass. There's a restaurant that looks into the aquarium from one side and some small children who were sitting at a front table signaled for me to do a flip. They went crazy when I obliged. It was pretty awesome :)

Aquariums dives can be great fun. You will never dive in calmer or clearer water in your life.

[–]JayReps 0 points1 point ago

That school of fish are gunna ATTACK

[–]FUCITADEL 0 points1 point ago

I'm not sure if anyone else gets this, but when I am high heights, I get a tingling in my junk. So, I'd be scuba diving in there, I'd have some super tingly junk.

[–]4cupsofcoffee 0 points1 point ago

The only reason I got certified was for this.

[–]SteadyAimGaming -1 points0 points ago

Bioshock

[–]ColonicIrritation -1 points0 points ago
