Fuckin' dropbears.
[–]smashingcheese 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Proof Dropbears exist.
[–]randygandy 6 points7 points8 points 6 months ago
Remember the vegemite when camping. Dropbears can be vicious, especially in winter when food becomes more scarce.
[–]eak125 4 points5 points6 points 6 months ago
Cryptozoologist here.
The natural enemy of the Drop Bear is the Jackalope due to it's rack of horns. Unfortunately Australian Jackalope are now extinct and drop bears have been proliferating without impediment.
Conversely North American Drop Bears are an endangered species with fewer than 5 pairs spotted on the entire continent. This is due to the high quantity of Jackalope and Snipe in North America thinning the drop bears to critical numbers.

Dropbears & Hoopsnakes, just another day in Aus
[–]what_you_want_69 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
They are a dam pain, always eating my families sheep. You got to watch them camping, and you can never eat at you're campsite or it will attract them. My cousin learnt the hard way
[–]jackeylegs 4 points5 points6 points 6 months ago
This shit is totally real, drop bears are a major issue in Australia.
[–]Nowin 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
I made my sister buy 3 pounds of Vegemite when she visited Australia.
[–]Not_Quite-right 4 points5 points6 points 6 months ago
drop bears always prying on the backpackers
[–]Jpoche 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
What the actual fuck
[–]TheAlgebraist 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
It's not when they fall... it's when they bounce back up again, at your throat.
[–]road_kill_ryan -1 points0 points1 point 6 months ago
Shopped. Good effort but...
[–]Junkz0r 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
As an Australian, I approve of this PSA. Dropbears are violent, deadly creatures.
[–]OnCallHero 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
inb4 someone flips it upside down and posts it again as [FIXED].

Koalas are omnivores.
[–]jubbergun -1 points0 points1 point 6 months ago
The koala \(Phascolarctos cinereus\) is an arboreal herbivorous marsupial native to Australia, and the only extant representative of the family Phascolarctidae.
The koala lives almost entirely on eucalypt leaves. This is likely to be an evolutionary adaptation that takes advantage of an otherwise unfilled ecological niche, since eucalypt leaves are low in protein, high in indigestible substances, and contain phenolic and terpene compounds that are toxic to most species.

It could maybe happen if they infected with rabies or something along those line, but even still, this photo is very clearly altered.
[–]drunk_otter 4 points5 points6 points 6 months ago
That's not a koala. That's a dropbear - this is the info page at the Australian Museum. They're related but the dropbear is a vicious little bastard.
[–]jubbergun -4 points-3 points-2 points 6 months ago
If that site you linked is to be believed, then that still looks like a photoshop of a koala, since dropbears are "around the size of a leopard or very large dog with coarse orange fur with some darker mottled patterning." Whatever it is in that picture is gray.
I found it very suspect that the map this site shows of this alleged creature's habitat forms an icon of an animal's face.
This all, of course, led me to my old friend Google for advice, and there I found the following: A drop bear (or dropbear) is a fictitious Australian marsupial.
My world would be filled with so much more joy and magic if I didn't have such a finely honed bullshit detector.

Fuck off, mate.
[–]timesync 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
I meant to say herbivore not omnivore!!
