Jesus was a Jew, but the religion that surrounds him is decidedly not. The reason why is that Jesus (in proxy of God) can apparently restructure religion. It'd be considered cult nonsense today, but that's how it works.

The important passage is "...In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away."

In essence, it means the old laws no longer apply, and the new laws will just be the teachings of Jesus. A lot of the old laws were reaffirmed like just about all of the Ten Commandments, while most of the more extreme ones were dropped.

In comparison, the beliefs of Christianity are relatively tame compared to Judaism, but not nearly as defined (because most of them boil down to asking WWJD).

So, when you criticize Christianity, you must make sure you get the facts straight. If you criticize one religion using details of a different religion, you just come across as sensationalist. Just talk about the Crusades and Inquisition and shit or something.

At any rate, it's not even worth mentioning here because I can think of no religion other than Viking paganism, the Ancient Roman faith, or some obscure cult that can match this particular picture.
