I don't avoid them....I've worked fairly hard, am in better shape than I was in high school. Even in the unlikely event that somebody recognized me...it would be a positive experience.

Given how quickly most people let themselves go - certainly there are lots out there who think they'd actually look better in comparison if they happened to run into people from high school?

(I suppose it does matter how long it's been. For me it's 20 years - it might be different if it were 3-4).

I was in a small private school, basically with the same 12 or so kids for 10 years. They're friendly to my face, but they're ridiculously two-faced and I won't pretend we're friends. It's liberating to say, "nah, fuck you guys."

I worked at a gas station that was about 4 blocks away from my high school when I was 19.

Every time I saw someone I went to high school with I ran as fast as I could to the back office and just hid there for a few minutes.

Luckily 2 people were scheduled every time so eventually the other person rung 'em up and shooed them away.

Learn some fucking social skills already. I would enjoy talking to some of you people in real life at some point but apparently for the most part redditor=socially awkward. Even the nerdiest of nerds have social skills. I talked to a guy working at the feed store about LARPing and D&D today for a good 10 minutes and I have participated in neither. I also learned his brother gave his 14 year old kid a world of Warcraft tattoo at home. Think of all the conversations you are missing!! When I went to buy lottery tickets afterward I struck up a convo with the lady in front of me and out of no where she informed me that she was driving drunk and "ran over a black man" killing him a couple weeks ago..... Maybe I am wrong. That was actually a conversation I could have lived without. Actually, the D&D one had me feeling the need to escape. Never mind. Carry on.
