Some retard did this at my parents house while it was being built. Jumped out of his truck without putting it in park, and walked in front of his truck to unlock our front gate. Sure enough his truck rolled forward and pinned him against our front gate.... And his company tried to blame it on us for having a incline in front of our house.....

Even though my reply doesn't pertain to the flow of the comment reply, I'm going to reply here anyway since it's the spot where this will be seen at the top of the page and not be buried so people can see the story behind this gif....
This video is actually of my friend's father taken off their security camera (It's a small world Reddit). It happened in PA last June. In her words explaining when i asked: "My dad had a problem with his emergency break....Tried to stop the truck himself. The force of his Truck mowed him over....The guy in front went to get my dad's truck as it was rolling down the hill (cuz the old man was in it), his truck just glided down the hill too and demolished. My dad's friend's truck was in neutral (a standard). I think that once he saw what happened, he just jumped out without thinking or putting it in park or anything like that. All he said is that he knew the old man was gliding down the hill and was scared shitless."
Everyone was OK in general, the truck was done for though. Possibly the worst part of it all is that said friend, while visiting her dad in the ER, had to end up seeing his penis.
Now here's a side note about how this even ended up on the web to begin with.
The one guys grandson got the security footage and uploaded it to Youtube. He didn't ask anyone in the video if it was cool with them (not sure if he legally HAD to, but just sayin) and the friend who i just spoke of was unbelievably pissed off that he would do that and that all these youtube commentors were making fun of her dad. She wanted to find him and rip his throat out. Not to mention TruTV got in touch with him and offered him $1200 to show it on TV.

Yes, but an incline is hardly a "special hazard," especially if the contractor was not acting reasonably when he failed to park his truck. Even if the surface was completely flat, a reasonable person would still park their car and not simply leave it in drive.

Depends on the state and in some states, it depends on the type of person. You owe no duty to warn to somebody who trespasses on your land without your knowledge. Now if you find the person trespassing, then you have to warn. So having some signs will cover you for trespassers on your land. Now if you invite guests over or have contractors over, then you have a higher duty, to not only warn and protect them of any dangers, but to actually remove those dangers, if possible.

Haha. No worries, I wasn't offended. Thankfully no family has been lost or hurt seriously. Just tons of stupid fallen trees, branches, some damage, and whatever. And flooding. It actually reminded me of the yer 4 or 5 storms crossed the center of the state. That was really a WTF year. Our school year was actually extended because we had so many hurricane days. Most times we just board up and have a hurricane party.
I actually go to college in Chicago and had my first blizzard last year. That was bizarre, I don't know how you people do it.

What you should be asking is "Why the hell did the 2nd guy decide to chase the truck instead of help the injured guy on the ground?" He was so eager to save the truck that he left his own truck to roll over the guy.

Sometimes, when you're in a fast-changing, unpredicted situation, you don't always do the most logical/humane thing. Given forewarning or more time the other guy may have realized his best course of action was to help the first guy, but when something unexpected happens, our attention tends to gravitate towards the most eye-catching thing. Which, in this case, was a truck rolling quickly down a hill.

Something like this happened to me once. The parking brake failed after I slammed the door on a steep incline. Let me tell you. The moment of panic when you realize your vehicle is rolling and there's nothing you can immediately do about it it pretty harrowing. Luckily, I hadn't locked the door and I was able to get in and face-plant under the steering wheel to operate the manual brake with my hand, but I got really, really lucky.

Yeah, I agree with the idiots part. One specifically is the worst driver I've ever seen. She texts constantly on the interstate/doesn't turn her car off when pumping fuel/doesn't wear a seatbelt/Doesn't stop at stop signs/speeds/just flat out doesn't pay attention/ drinks and drives. Driving in her car with her is terrifying. She just likes to ridicule me for being "too cautious" for using my hand brake, but screams and yells and says I take turns too fast and when people slam on the brakes and I hit mine but stop slowly instead of slamming on the brakes. She acts like she's about to die and yells at me.
Edit: No she isn't my GF, just a co-worker I drove to work while her car was in the shop. Wanted to clarify that I'm not intimately associated with this person.

it actually helps out your auto transmissions too. There is a pin that engages when you put it in park and if you don't set the brake, that one pin is holding the entire weight of the vehicle in place. So to prolong the life of your transmission, set the brake before letting off the regular brakes after you put it in park

Honestly, it takes about 2 hours to change that pin if the drum is OK - and it usually is. You do need to do it right away, though before driving the vehicle anywhere. It's absolutely incredible the number of people who think they need a new transmission just because of this. You take the pan off and it's usually one or two bolts to replace it.
But whatever you do - don't drive to the shop. Get a tow. If the pin breaks off and gets chewed up by the rest of the transmission, then you're buggered.

my friend delivers newspapers and certain stops he's got to go put it on a doorstep or something... when he does, he leaves his truck in neutral... he's had to chase it down a few times from what he's told me...but he still does it... says it never gets far, and would prefer to every once in a while to have to jog after it then put extra wear and tear on his transmission.
tl;dr: People would rather risk losing their car than risk extra wear and tear on transmission.

Funny, this video is actually of my friend's father taken off their security camera (It's a small world Reddit). It happened in PA last June. In her words explaining when i asked:
"My dad had a problem with his emergency break....Tried to stop the truck himself. The force of his Truck mowed him over....The guy in front went to get my dad's truck as it was rolling down the hill (cuz the old man was in it), his truck just glided down the hill too and demolished. My dad's friend's truck was in neutral (a standard). I think that once he saw what happened, he just jumped out without thinking or putting it in park or anything like that. All he said is that he knew the old man was gliding down the hill and was scared shitless."

my aunt died this way.
Her jeep was on a hill, and it, "slipped out of gear". She jumped in trying to stop it rolling down the hill, and she was killed between the car and a tree. Her family sued Chrysler, and they settled out of court for an undisclosed sum of money. I only ever met her once that I remember.
