Today I was walking around campus in between classes and this vegan lady hands me a pamphlet. I look at it and its full of vegan crap like cutting my bacon and other meat intakes by half. I said "Thanks!" because I didn't wanted to be rude to her, but then she pounces and starts giving me 5 more to hand out to my friends. I said "no thanks" but she said, "just give them out, its not hard. Everyone needs to stop animal slavery." I took a page out of the colbert report and asked her if she had a dog. She said yes and gave her a ಠ_ಠ look. Then I went to class and learned about finance. It was a good day.

I went to an elementary school in CO named Bear Canyon Elementary, and our library had "Li-bear-y" spelled above the doors... Through those years I legitimately thought that was how you pronounced it

Many many years ago, I was at an IBM training class for AS/400, which uses objects called LIBARRIES. At least, that's what they were called by the super-white Canadian lady who said LIBARRIES at least once a minute for 3 straight days.

I think the upvotes are because people agree that it's stupid to accept a mispronunciation as categorically "okay."

If my nephew can see a speech therapist to learn how to pronounce "TH" like "TH" instead of like "F" then I think people can learn that "library" is not pronounced "li-barry."

The Merriam Webster dictionary considers that an acceptable, but uncommon alternative pronunciation. You can see a video about it that I posted elsewhere in the comments, that got downvoted, because people on reddit think they are more authoritative on pronunciations than the people who make dictionaries. ;-)
