OP is a faggot

[–]LittleSisterCody 4 points5 points ago

Incredible. Speechless.

[–]Punkwasher 1 point2 points ago

Very yes.

[–]Drainedsoul 16 points17 points ago

That's not "capitalism", just fyi.

[–]cmiller123 2 points3 points ago

It's "crony capitalism" but this is reddit, they know not of what they speak.

[–]Odusei 1 point2 points ago

Actually, it's just socialism.

[–]angryxpeh 0 points1 point ago

socialism: A political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

[–]Odusei -2 points-1 points ago

For a while, the United States government owned a controlling share of General Motors (as well as a brothel in Las Vegas). Does that not qualify as socialism?

[–]CharioteerOut -1 points0 points ago

What?

[–]Odusei 6 points7 points ago

A government bail out of a failing company is a socialist policy, much in the same way that government hand outs to the poor (in the form of welfare and food stamps) are socialist policies. A purely capitalist system would allow both failing businesses and the poor to "go under."

It reminds me of an argument I heard long ago that most Americans actually love Socialism, it's just that they only want one half of America to be the beneficiaries of socialist policies. The liberals want the poor and middle class to benefit, and the conservatives want the rich and corporations to benefit.

[–]planetbeing 0 points1 point ago

It's not really socialist because in socialism the government would end up with majority control of the company because they would effectively buy out the company. It would then presumably be able to directly ensure the company acts for the benefit of the people in the future. Bailouts mean the government gives corporations money without getting ownership or control in return. I think that's more in line with a plutocracy: the government is the bitch of the corporations.

[–]Odusei 0 points1 point ago

So would you be willing to call the government bailout of General Motors socialist? The government did own a controlling interest for some time afterwards.

[–]twadebald -1 points0 points ago

Good work sir. Also, let's not forget the federal reserve controls the monetary policy of the entire US, and most of the world. They decided what banks failed and which ones stayed afloat during the bailouts. That sounds pretty socialist to me.

[–]Todomanna 0 points1 point ago

Socialism isn't government control, it's popular control. It's where the people doing the majority of the work have the most say in how that work is done and what is done with the product.

[–]Odusei -3 points-2 points ago

How would you distinguish that from Communism?

[–]Todomanna 0 points1 point ago

That depends, are you talking about actual Communism, or Communism as it's percieved in the modern era. That being the perversion of the dream of a group of idealistic rebels by a twisted, genocidal madman?

[–]Odusei -1 points0 points ago

Let's go with the former, and hold on to the latter for later.

[–]Todomanna 1 point2 points ago

Scale.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points ago

We don't live in a purely capitalist society. We live in a modified market economy. That in no way makes us socialist. In that context it is just a stupid buzzword that politicians like to use to discredit their rival's economic plan.

[–]Odusei -1 points0 points ago

I'm aware that we don't live in a purely capitalist society (nor a purely democratic society), and I'm grateful for that. I was only correcting the depiction of a government bailout as "crony capitalism" when it was really just socialism.

[–]jrriojase 1 point2 points ago

Why do you write in that font, why, man, WHY?

[–]Odusei -1 points0 points ago

Because serifs are cool.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points ago

Again. No it wasn't socialism.

[–]M0b1u5 -1 points0 points ago

That's like saying "I have never smoked dope, but I have smelled it and inhaled it."

The USA is socialistic as fuck when it comes to bailing out the rich and powerful, but getting even a tiny fraction of that money into a government controlled health care program for all Americans - that won't happen.

Because the government doesn't give a flying fuck what anyone except wall street and the MIC want.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]twadebald 0 points1 point ago

Because the government is full of cronies.

[–]cmiller123 0 points1 point ago

Well not exactly run by the government, but private banks that are insured by the government and have ties to big centralized government is crony capitalism.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]cmiller123 0 points1 point ago

All three are federally funded/supported private banks, it is actually fascism economics. And nothing from the above post is new to me.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]cmiller123 0 points1 point ago

Ok sure, but again it is not the government doing these things, it is the Fed. The Fed is technically not influenced by public officials. And yes it is a federally insured centralized bank monopoly. I close by saying Alexander Hamilton was trying to do this at the founding of the nation and the founders rejected the idea because they thought it would be unconstitutional to give any bank or any company monopoly advantages over their respective industry. Unfortunately, the Great Depression was a desperate time; a ton of unconstitutional programs and banking policies were set in place that never had a chance before.

[–]CharioteerOut -5 points-4 points ago

Really? Define "capitalism".

What I've got it down to is,

bob meets ted.

bob and ted work together to make lemonade.

bob and ted make ten dollars.

bob give three dollars to ted.

bob runs off with seven dollars, setting up many more lemonade stands to defraud and rob other people of their labor.

[–]Drainedsoul 8 points9 points ago

You can't rob someone of something they agree to give you.

But I'm sure the rhetoric works out well for you in lieu of an actual argument.

[–]goddammitraf 0 points1 point ago*

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labor_theory_of_value#Marx.27s_contribution

EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploitation#Marxist_theory "Because of these human-made institutions, workers have little or no choice but to pay the capitalists surplus-value (profits, interest, and rent) in exchange for their survival."

The argument is that it's not really a decision, someone "agreeing" to give over their labor because, due to their lack of other capital, workers are forced to sell their labor in order to survive.

[–]Drainedsoul 0 points1 point ago

Rofl.

[–]AbjectDogma -2 points-1 points ago

Stuff like this is why I said this

[–]M0b1u5 -2 points-1 points ago

No, but it IS Capitalist America

[–]Caidan44 12 points13 points ago

In capitalist America, worn out shit gets reposted!

[–]PARSLEYsage 5 points6 points ago

In karmaist Reddit...

[–]Mailvorez 2 points3 points ago

This joke is so old it could run for president.

[–]lufraf 1 point2 points ago

I'd vote for it.

[–]Goldcut 1 point2 points ago

Read it as Captain America. It was more awesome that way.

[–]demer8080 1 point2 points ago

Why do people always say Capitalist when they mean Fascist?...

[–]asciiaardvark 0 points1 point ago

A slightly different group of people also use Socialist when they mean Fascist. I think Godwin's law has something to do with it.

[–]verndub 1 point2 points ago

Join a credit union...

[–]CharioteerOut 2 points3 points ago

Or any union.

[–]orniver 0 points1 point ago

I've got a good one. Its name starts with "s" and ends with "t", with "ovie" in the middle.

[–]CharioteerOut 0 points1 point ago

You can't join that one. It's just for socialist republics, not people.

[–]NeoTeleSocio 1 point2 points ago

In Capitalist America, money controls you!

[–]92235 2 points3 points ago

Odd because my bank gave me $250 last year in rewards and interest.

[–]giantasparagus 0 points1 point ago

you forgot "Bank of" in front of "America"

[–]SeaLegs 0 points1 point ago

ITT: No one has any idea what they're talking about.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Comma splice.

[–]quikjl 0 points1 point ago

[–]stavius 0 points1 point ago

[–]KrazyNarb 0 points1 point ago

[–]M0b1u5 0 points1 point ago

The truth: it hurts.

[–]Bigwillay 0 points1 point ago

[–]holger-danske 0 points1 point ago

in reddit/r/funny, facebook screen shot fucks you.

[–]John_Redcorn126 0 points1 point ago

/r/politics is leaking again!

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

Yes, because a bank reclaiming property after people can't afford to pay their debts is robbery.

BOOOHOOO THE IDIOTS WHO TOOK OUT A MORTGAGE ON SOMETHING THEY COULDN'T AFFORD AND LOST THEIR JOB BECAUSE THEY WERE NONSKILLED LABOR LOST THIER HOME.

[–]CharioteerOut -1 points0 points ago

Yeah, if a bank is charging you %50 + (a very common occurrence) on your debts, that's theft. If you have no other way of paying for necessities like housing or transport, you go to the bank for a loan, then to "pay off" the loan, you end up spending most of your non-essential income to the bank. A better word than "theft" might be "slavery".

Non-skilled labor, by the way, is necessary to the economy, and working a low-wage job does not justify being put out on the street.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

No, robots do that in the future.

[–]captainpuppy -1 points0 points ago

In Corporatist America

FTFY

[–]CharioteerOut 0 points1 point ago

Same thing. Capitalism evolves into Corporatism the second "Socialist government" stops intervening.

[–]captainpuppy 0 points1 point ago

wrong. The moment it starts intervening it turns into corporatism. As soon as government passes laws giving the power to choose winners and losers, that power goes to the highest bidder.

[–]bithead -1 points0 points ago

I've never had a savings account that didn't lose money. Even in the thousands of dollars, sneak fees have always eaten the interest plus some.

[–]mrcharlietango 1 point2 points ago

You need to try not doing what you've been doing.

[–]mgunk -1 points0 points ago

True Capitalism hasn't existed since 1913

[–]Derpybro -1 points0 points ago
