I run into this issue all the time. People tell me my lifestyle is sinful but they think that because they're saying it with a smile they aren't being bigoted twats.

I've had to end several friendships because they couldn't understand that just because you're not yelling doesn't mean you're being tolerant.

Heh - you are aware that Hitchens was quite critical of Pope John Paul II for publicly thanking God for saving his life after he was shot, and neglecting to mention the 6 surgeons who worked for 18 hours on him?

I am sure he thanked them privately, of course :P

So do you think he thanked them privately? :P
I expect he did, but the lack of public thanks is significant.

Is it different in Muamba's case? Hmmm - one could debate that. Do you think her motives were different from Mr Wojtyła's?

Anyway my post did provoke some discussion, so no I don't consider that a backfiring.
