Normally I tend to ignore "remake this game" posts. But this one gets an upvote.

Some twenty years ago I used to come home from school and spend my afternoons playing this game on my stepfather's PC until one of my parents got home from work. I didn't have many friends since my parents had just divorced and my mother moved with me to a distant suburb. Both my parents worked several hour's commute from where we lived. I put all my time into playing the various modes of the game and reading the (amazingly huge and informative) manual. It wasn't as cool as an SNES or a Sega Genesis, but it had a seemingly endless ability to distract me.

In November of this past year I handed in my Master's thesis, entitled Strategies for winter survival by Tasmanian ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae). Some things just stick with you.

When this game came out, I had an assignment in school to write a short book of poems, about a dozen or so. I made every single one about ants, and put some sweet early 90s ant clipart on the cover. This book is still in my filing cabinet somewhere, I think.

I read an interview about the new Simcity and whoever was representing maxis said the engine was created with remaking other games in mind. One of the games he mentioned was Simant.

I always wanted the Sim Universe to completely integrate. Sim Ant you pester the humans who live in their homes in the Sims. Sim City is played by the mayor of each city who hits at least lvl 7 political track. Sim Earth you control the dude who unlocks the highest level of politics. Etc. But then it would suck because your game would randomly end when the Sim called the exterminator and had your colony gassed. And EVERYBODY would die if the dude from Sim Earth fucked things up.
