              Everyone commenting here who thinks that the shorts grab was across the line has never played or probably even seen any professional or college sports. That happens quite literally every game in most college and professional sports. Players will grab a jersey or sometimes just put a hand on the other player to keep track of the person as they move around behind you so they don't sneak off.

              I know exactly what you mean.

              The best example I have is when I was playing Ice Hockey and this guy got pissed at me for whatever reason (my team was winning) and he tried to cross check me into the boards. I turned around, grabbed his throat and slammed him onto the ice. I held him there and informed him that any more dirty shit would have him eating my fist.

              His father talked to me after the match and thanked me for pulling his son into line without seriously hurting him. It was an 'over the top' display of strength and threatened violence and it worked, this guy is now a friend of mine, he looks up to me (he's a couple of years younger) and he plays fair.

              Every sport has its metagame; there are some times when you break the rules and some times when you follow them, and you have to use your best discretion as to when to do what. This is just going over the line and asking for the referees to call a foul.

              You're 100% right, that was low, but that girl was smart about it and knew what she could get away with. That kind of thing happens all the time in soccer (don't even get me started on what is standard practice at the bottom of a pileup in American football). The other girl was enraged and let herself get out of control. I'm just taking a pragmatic approach to this, I don't think either action was really defensible.
