I've had these gifs on my desktop for a very long time. And you act as if those posts on /r/gifs are the original posts? As if they were the people that created the gifs, and they were the first people to ever post them?

It doesn't matter, anyway. The submissions he cited are all from different subreddits, those aren't reposts those are crossposts. However, this has been submitted here before IIRC but we have no rules against reposts because it would be too hard to police them plus people should be downvoting reposts anyway. It wouldn't be a bad idea to search before you submit, though.

If people would report submissions and link the reposted submission in the comments with an explanation like "This was reposted; [here]() is the original" then we might start removing them but no one ever does that. We might do a rule like: don't repost the top 100 of all time. That would be easier. Reposts are definitely a problem here but we're still trying to find a good way to prevent them.
