[–]asherrd 2 points3 points ago

I saw a few tapings of the show and they always do two takes of every scene even if the first take was perfect. Occasionally they do a third take. In a lot of the scenes where the gang is roughhousing/piling on each other, after the fight you will notice things like George's shirt being all disheveled, camera points to Jerry then back to George, and his shirt is perfectly fine.

[–]zoanthropy 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The one I always noticed the most was this one

George goes from the bathroom over to the window and you can see him in the background for quite awhile, then all of a sudden he appears in the kitchen with a drink in his hand

[–]whiteboy1190 14 points15 points ago

In Germany, where these cookies usually are completely iced with the vanilla fondant only, they are called Amerikaner.

ಠ_ಠ

[–]Arkandy 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

the Black and White Cookie found difficult to speak, has been called simply "Americans".

Pardon me if I misunderstood, however they might have originally been baked in Germany, when introduced to the black and white cookie by the Americans, it named it after its origin.

EDIT: Just noticed you went to the English version of the page, while I was reading exclusively from the German, my mistake.

[–]whiteboy1190 2 points3 points ago

[–]Thefinalwerd 77 points78 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The difference is those shows all cater towards pretty niche markets, Seinfeld is enjoyed by all on multiple networks a decade after it already aired.

[–]Turnip_Blaster 11 points12 points ago

There is no objective way to define a best show. Everyone likes something different.

How is The Wire not on Netflix yet...

[–]gfxlonghorn 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Because HBO owns it, and no HBO shows are on Netflix? If you want to stream The Wire, you need HBO Go. What reason would they have to put in on Netflix?

[–]IsaacHolladay 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Well, I am already paying for Netflix, and can't afford another video service, especially if it's only for a few shows that I want (not need) to watch. I get plenty of great shows on Netflix and Hulu, so I guess I just won't watch HBO shows then. ¯(°_0)/¯

[–]Darth_Hobbes -1 points0 points ago

[–]gfxlonghorn 2 points3 points ago

[–]tobold 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This goes for any show, really. I've had a friend who disliked Firefly and when I asked her, she said she watched 5 minutes and it was just confusing... ಠ_ಠ

[–]gfxlonghorn 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

No, not really. For example, if you didn't like the first episode of Breaking Bad, you weren't going to like the rest of the show.

[–]caseyjhol 0 points1 point ago

My friend once watched part of a season 5 episode of Dexter. He said he didn't like it. When I told him he had to watch season 1, he refused. Now he's sleeping with the fishes.

[–]ViridianHominid -3 points-2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Bit of a devil's advocate here, but if it's the best show -ever-, shouldn't the appeal be more obvious?

[–]golfjunkie 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It's an incredibly complex show with a lot of characters and storylines, all of which intersect and matter to the story as a whole. This is one of the things that makes The Wire the best show of all time and that would not be apparent after watching half an episode.

[–]thecassidy 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That's a very shallow way to look at things.

[–]Infinite_Jim -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah, actually. It is exactly like how Godfather is a great movie. Sorry it's not to your taste, but you're missing out.

[–]IAmAQuantumMechanic -2 points-1 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You misspelled Breaking Bad. Weird, but I upvoted you anyway.

[–]gfxlonghorn 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

If you watched the Wire in it's entirety, there is very little chance you could come to that conclusion. Heisenberg is great, Omar is still better.

I can think of 5: Cookie guy, Jackie the lawyer, the black maid that rubs oil over George, the black marathon runner that oversleeps for his race, and Mr. Morgan the Yankee baseball player.
Edit: Ooo, I just thought of a couple more! Businessman to George at restaurant, "If you're one of us, you'll take a bite!". Also, the black waitress that serves Elaine and her "black" boyfriend.

No, half moons are slightly different. Black and white cookies have a more cookie-like texture (though it can be cakey for a cookie) and half moons are more cakelike.

They have them in Germany and call them Amerikaners. On holidays here and I was just saying to my wife "Look, the racial harmony cookie!" and yeah, she spoiled the fun.

Show more than two black/brown/african american, or whatever you call it, people?

[–]JoxerTheMighty 8 points9 points ago

That's totally inappropriate. It's lewd, lascivious, salacious, outrageous!

If it's based on Jerrys life, and he didn't have any black friends, why force them in there. Screw all that PC crap..

[–]CommissionerValchek 0 points1 point ago

Just as much based on Larry's. Of course now in Curb we have Leon.

No. It doesn't bother me a bit. I don't care at all.

My friends and I have an FB page for all our friends to post/talk about shit/ what have you, and recently the posts have gotten a bit racy...and by racy I mean racist. So, I posted this on the board calling for the end of our groups racism. I think it will work fantastically. Thank you good sir!

If you watch the full scene closely you'll notice Jerry holds the cookie upside down in alternating cuts.

So they're the ones who solved that. -30 Rock, not better, but relevant.

the end to racism AND the end to Jerry's "no-vomit" record. was it really worth it?

Brown guys and Asians demand cookies to represent them.

Also laid out in this scene is the concept of babka equality. Cinnamon babka and chocolate babka are just as good as the other. There is no lesser babka!

[–]zersch 1 point2 points ago

Actually it's the cinnamon babka Elaine was amazed by. Chocolate was the one that was already being brought to the dinner party by someone else. Source: This episode was on TV last night at 3:30 AM.

All of you hate Hitler, but he brought the end of racism. Without his work we would still live in a very racist world. His killing of the jews opened the eyes of the people

I think that is one oddly skewed way of looking at it, but i suppose you're right... I think it was more of a collateral outcome than a planned ahead mission. Either way, one upvote for the attempt.
