Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

The building is hideous - an absolute eyesore.

Art is not fickle, but genius is rare and innovation is elusive. This is the opposite of all three.

I bet the acoustics are really bad.

Yeah...cheesy music. I can see it full of band dorks wearing keyboard neckties. This is the sort of building that clogs the dreams of a 28-year-old virgin with a masters degree in the French horn. This is the Maynard Ferguson of buildings (-even without a trumpet. The only thing that could make this building cheesier would be a trumpet).

Downvoted you and whom you replied to because I like this building. Of course, I don't know what this building is for, however, I'm going to assume it's a music related museum. If I am correct (and even if I'm not) I must say that I enjoy when architecture reflects the purpose and/or meaning of the space.

It's not reflecting the purpose, it's a duck building. (if it looks like a duck...) If it were reflecting the purpose it would be more tasteful to do it in a subtle way (i.e. sculpting the building in a way that reminds one of the flow of music) This kind of designing can be done by a four year old. It's nothing to admire there is literally no thought put into design like this. Whoever designed this is a lazy uncreative person and that they dare to call it architecture is simply insulting. Architecture is a form of art not some cheap way to facilitate the lack of thought by the masses.

I disagree. Show me other buildings where the designs are based from musical instruments. If this has been done to death (architecturally) then I may eat my comment.

Also, I am ignorant to what you mean by "duck building". The structure looks nothing like a duck, but I'm sure that is not what you are referring to lest you be blind and/or unaware of the appearance of a duck.

Please read this reply as a drunk person and not as a condescending hipster, for I have imbibed quite a bit.

As for, "If it were reflecting the purpose it would be more tasteful to do it in a subtle way (i.e. sculpting the building in a way that reminds one of the flow of music)" This statement only welcomes the debate of art in architecture. Should a building reflect it's purpose or should it reflect it's feelings perhaps literally or figuratively? Either way one answers the two fold question there can be a number of ways to perceive the outcome. Art is fickle, and (in my opinion) architecture of an art housed building is only more difficult.

What he is saying is that this building has all the architectural merit of a hot dog stand in the shape of a hot dog. It has none of the nuance of a great structure, no flow, no charisma and no thought to the people who will l be forced to use it. It's like teacher gave a seven year old the task of 'design the music building', so they drew a picture of their favourite instruments, and then somebody made it happen in CAD.

And I am indeed replying in the form of a drunk person, as I am indeed totally Mcbunted and I was really there before anything hipsters find cool, was cool, the first time 'round.

These are just my thoughts on that last section of your comment, but normally the most successful architecture is the structure that helps to highlight what the building is being used. The building itself can be a beautiful thing, but if everyone is paying attention to the building then what is the point of the stuff in it? I guess I'm just arguing that the building should reflect its feelings figuratively over literally, to use your words.
