I think the real trick here was the no arms headstand.

[–]spryce 36 points37 points ago

At least he's got his head in the game.

[–]marvin24k 2 points3 points ago

That second angle gives it away. That crash looks too well rehearsed if you ask me. Then again, isn't that the case with anything you watch on TV.

[–]Beardown2011 4 points5 points ago

Just gonna take a little nap right here.

[–]sculptedpixels 14 points15 points ago

My good friend broke his collar bone in high school doing the same thing. It was lunch time, and a lot of the guys in our grade were in the 'Senior Study', a big room with computers and desks for students in year 11/12. We found some gym mats in the room, and my friend suggested trying to jump over a lot of chairs.

He set up 7 chairs in a row from the get-go, and after a few practice approaches, he clears all 7 chairs perfectly and lands in a forward roll. At this stage, nearly everyone is like "Holy shit, he just did that", but some people who weren't watching encouraged him to do it again. The second time, he landed badly (although he managed to clear the chairs again), with his shoulder/head hitting the ground first.

He gets up and tries to walk of the pain which he would later discover was his broken collarbone, but it gets so bad that he can barely stand. He realises his collarbone is probably broken (it was pretty obvious - there was a large protrusion where his right clavicle usually was) , and at this stage all but one other person leave so they aren't involved. I get the other friend to look after him while I run to the school office and get them to call an ambulance, but not before the three of us agreed that it would be best for our year and the future of the 'Senior Study' if we said that it happened when he had slipped on the stairs outside and landed badly.

We managed to convince our deputy headmaster that this was in fact what had happened, and my friend was carted away by the paramedics. He now has a nice titanium bracket reinforcing his clavicle that reminds him not to tempt fate.

BONUS FRIEND INJURY STORY: The same friend was recently riding home from work on his bike when a driver opened the door of their parked car without looking, resulting in my friend clipping the door, being thrown off his bike and almost run over. The tangled mess that was once his bike is the only reason the car driving behind him didn't also run him over. He walked away with a fracture L2 vertebra, minor L1 fracture, and a L5/S1 disc protrusion.

[–]forcedfx 10 points11 points ago

Some people should stay inside.

[–]Crim91 9 points10 points ago

He really stuck that landing.

[–]lividd 2 points3 points ago

He died doing what he loved. How many of us could say the same.

[–]damagicsausage 2 points3 points ago

Extreme Planking!

[–]Emporuto 2 points3 points ago

Reminds me of the fence scene from Hot Fuzz when Danny tries

[–]Moses2112 1 point2 points ago

I think you accidentally a few words at the end there.

[–]natholomew 4 points5 points ago

I call this the 'Tripsy, Twisty, Crispy-Spin to Plank'

[–]scrubbyducky 1 point2 points ago

what was he supposed to be doing?

[–]slayer8a[!] 8 points9 points ago

Bending chairs. Success.

[–]scrubbyducky 0 points1 point ago

well in that case... WELL DONE SIR!!!

[–]ALKINDA 1 point2 points ago

i like the head stand to plank at the end

[–]fullmetalraz 1 point2 points ago

I was expecting him to randomly get up at the end

[–]Quietbetrayal 1 point2 points ago

I laugh every time. I even laughed when I saw it live, then my girlfriend looked at me like I was evil for laughing at a guy who could of broken his neck among many other things.

[–]hashashinator 1 point2 points ago

You got it all wrong. He was actually trying to do a planking stunt.

[–]BearGoesWild 1 point2 points ago

Extra points for planking

[–]bakinwithbacon 1 point2 points ago

Strike!

[–]Athena_Stafford 1 point2 points ago

lol

[–]taylorm6707 1 point2 points ago

I wonder how much of his life he wasted in an attempt to improve his ability at jumping chairs only to fail in front of so many people.

[–]JohnAbruzzi 1 point2 points ago

If anyone is interested, that is from the UK's Britain's Got Talent show. The guy actually fainted and wasn't escorted for a while as everyone thought it was part of the act.

[–]VeryRarePear 1 point2 points ago

He should have waited until the shields were down to commence his attack. Rookie mistake.

[–]Skipitybeebops 1 point2 points ago

Fuck this, I'm a tree.

[–]Ruskarr 3 points4 points ago

Can someone explain why he went so rigid??? :\

[–]raddat 6 points7 points ago

It's a stunt performer's best way to avoid additional injury. Having your arms flailing about has significantly more risk of injury than 'planking' it... Gosh I hate using that word.

[–]apekzhrk 7 points8 points ago*

You are partially correct. This person is called Bboy Ivan is actually a very famous bboy (breakdancer) and is a legend in our bboy community. The move he does after he knocks the chairs is called a "coin drop" which he uses to break the fall. The "planking" you speak of is actually called a head freeze and Ivan is well known for doing coin drop to head freeze. The head freeze does nothing to break the fall. He just did it to save the act in any way possible OR he was too embarrassed to get up so he decided to just stay there. It makes me a bit angry that people are making fun of him for one mistake that he had no control over.

As a bboy, I grew up looking up to Ivan. Here are some videos of his younger days:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=xia__iD9dWk

www.youtube.com/watch?v=r21JOAqA3V4

Yea he made a mistake but he was/is a great inspiration to many bboys/dancers today.

[–]Mikuro 2 points3 points ago

Well, nice save. Without the context, at least, I thought the whole thing was intentional.

[–]FedsAgainstGunS 2 points3 points ago

i thought it was a fail, untill i saw his pol vault win

[–]TouchMyPebbles 4 points5 points ago

I remember watching this on tv. he was seriously injured and could not perform on any other shows.

[–]danielsmith46 24 points25 points ago

he was not seriously injured. source

[–]InferiousX 13 points14 points ago

So after watching the video that LotsOfTime posted, I'm calling shenanigans on him being even moderately injured.

Watch the second angle.

His head never even makes solid contact with the floor and he breaks his fall with the chairs long before ever reaching the ground. Looks like more of a "OMGWTF what do I do kn---HEADSTAND PLANKING ATTACK"

[–]Hatshepsut5 8 points9 points ago

Me too. The judges were sitting there thinking it was part of the act for about 30 seconds

[–]secretlypooping 39 points40 points ago

turns out his talent wasn't planking.

[–]Monotone_Robot 7 points8 points ago

Additionally, the trampoline broke as he used it. This is the result of a critical failure of equipment. It's about as funny as watching a race car crash due to a snapped steering column.

[–]NaljunForgotPassword 28 points29 points ago

sooo...... hilarious?

[–]wildo421 1 point2 points ago

TURN LEFT DALE!!!!!!

[–]tinktj06 1 point2 points ago

I would love to see that. Just laughed thinking about it.

[–]newsama 2 points3 points ago

[–]Monotone_Robot 2 points3 points ago

This is exactly what I was referencing, actually. That guy was a legend, and that loss was senseless. A tragic waste of excellent talent for a stupid reason beyond his control. Felt horrible to watch the first time, not going to re-watch, the title of the video is enough.

[–]StoveJam 1 point2 points ago

On the bright side, he stuck the landing

[–]Legion299 1 point2 points ago

Does anyone notice it was so boss that he did a flip at the end with his head?

[–]chidokage 0 points1 point ago

i think funy posts should get the NSFW tag...

i just started giggling like a school girl at work

[–]Heidy_Lo -1 points0 points ago

I feel terrible for laughing.

[–]iBuzzKill -2 points-1 points ago

I think this guy got seriously injured here..
