It's commentary on the human ability to go outside oneself, to send out the most precious resource we have, our love. We send our love out into the world, despite feeling lifeless while we do so, and our love takes on a life of its own.

If we're lucky, our love can grow while it is in the world, even after only brief, small interactions with others. It can reproduce and grow stronger than it was before. Then our love can come back to us, reaffirming our faith in life itself and returning us from the brink of despair.

Even though our love may return to us, however, it is different than it was before, and it changes us. Hopefully for the better.

The next day, the wounds are healed, and we start the process all over again...
