Really? What about climate scientists, who discovered the problem in the first place? What about the voices to get us off of fossil fuel?

If one person convinces say, 100 people to use 5% less waste over the course of their lives, then they have more than offset the footprint of their own lives.

But now you're making no sense. Killing yourself reduces the global footprint by one person. Convincing 100 people to reduce their waste by 5% reduces the global footprint by 5 people. You're comparing apples and oranges.
