As soon as I saw that I whipped my head about, almost shrieking in pain as I envisioned the sand being forced into his eyes

Edit: A lot of people think that he would have close his eyes in time, so I would like to pose this question:

Might it be considered that sand might have gotten forced under his eyes, regardless if he managed to close them in time? I've experienced water being forced under my eyes (not underneath my eyelids so much as underneath the lower opening to my eye) from entering the water at the bottom of a waterslide, or from pushing off a wall underwater as fast as I could while facing the direction I was going to travel. The sensation burned, and I can only imagine it would hurt much worse if a similar situation happened with the sand. Thoughts?

Because you put that thought in my head I get that feeling of sand going under my eyes and it freaks me out. I am weird that I cannot let anything except my own fingers come within a few inches of my eyes.

BTW the jerk part was more of a joke and not a personal attack incase you took it that way.

Ha, don't worry, I assumed it was jokingly in nature.

And I know what you mean about the eyes thing, mine are also pretty sensitive. When I did plays in highschool, even if we wore no other makeup we had to wear eyeliner to bring out the emotions we were showing in our faces. There was only one person who could put eyeliner on me because she didn't try to do it correctly (Looking down and holding my eye open wasn't working, and the other girls were getting pissed that I couldn't keep from blinking no matter how hard I tried). What she would do, essentially, was tell me to prepare myself, then FUCKING RAPE MY EYE WITH THE PENCIL THING. Only way something can even get near my eye is if it's met by a full force frontal assault, as it seems.

Eyelids are quick, yes, but I'm more concerned with the sand getting forced in. Ever have, like, water end up getting forced in swimming (I've only been on a waterslide a few times before, but a few of those times water has gotten forced in and it kinda burned -- sand has GOT to be 10x worse at least)

That's not being forced in. I suppose another time this might happen were to be that in the case that you opened your eyes (this would be a time you were in the water without your contacts possibly) and pushed off against the wall very quickly with your eyes open and facing your direction of travel, so water got shoved underneath you eye, because that's where I see the sand going for this kid, too.

Then again, maybe you've been fortunate enough to not experience this sensation. If that's the case, you may not know what I'm talking about, and I can only hope that the kid who faceplanted in the sand didn't experience what I fear he probably did either.... because it would really, really, really suck.

Well when I was a kid, I had a stupid friend who managed to get a bb gun. He pointed it straight into my face point blank. He didn't think it was loaded and fired. I managed to blink in time at the sound to prevent myself being blinded in one eye, I had a huge bruise on my eyelid for a few weeks and it hurt to open my eye, but god did I want to kill him every time I recall that.

Well, wouldn't say I "flailed" haha, poor choice of words on my part! I did give it a good cringy head shake thing though. It was violent-ish, more so than it needed to be though. I tend to over empathize with these sorts of feelings a lot.

But the sand getting forced in! Have you ever had water forced in your eyes, like from a waterslide or anything? If you haven't, it kinda hurts a little (burns sorta, since it goes, like, under your eyes. Not under the eyelids, but down underneath your eyes). I can only imagine if sand were forced in.... it would hurt much more than a little bit though.

I've been getting a lot of that same response, so I made an edit to my question that points out my personal concerns that remain, and asks for the input of others. It reads:

I think there needs to be a study on the strength of an eyelid. At how many pounds of force will the eyelid be forced open? How many pounds of force can an eyelid exert? Enough to bend a leaf? Could you pick up any items with your eyelids? How can you work out your eyelid muscles or will the increase in muscle size force your eyelids to remain slightly closed all the time?

I dove slightly less shallow than the water once at a beach and face-plant-dragged along the bottom, got lots of sand jammed into my eyes, and it took most of an hour to get it out. I do not recommend. (However, is preferable to broken neck.)

I've had my face smacked into sand enough times to know that the forehead, eyebrow area, and the ridge of your nose, all prevent that from happening. Also, if the sand gets to your eyes, the eyelids close downward, and sliding like that wouldn't be able to get the sand under the eyelids.

The best back flip I've seen was a guy who was standing in a bedroom, and just jumped backwards and flipped. He landed on his feet and made it look as casual as walking down a sidewalk.

Well, this gif happened at Port Olimpic in Barcelona.

Last time I was there a porn star started going around on a segway for a shoot. Beaches in Spain are of course topless (and a full nude beach not far down the way there). She attracted in almost that very spot a bunch of 12 year old boys taking pictures.
