Wow, this is an incredible metaphor. It has made me think differently about the way mankind has treated its resources. We used to fear the sea and the unknown, for the creatures that lurked within. The forces of nature were a mystery, but our curiosity and our greed persuaded us to delve deeper. Now we are the masters of the unknown. The bounties of nature belong to us. We have tamed the terrible creatures, harvested their flesh and their habitats. Now they are at our mercy. We control the rate at which the earth creates meat, crops, oil, coal and we are even changing the weather. Is this a good thing? This image, before being edited, was a symbol of the moment man tamed nature. Man gained control over the monster. But this version reveals the truth. In mastering our own fates and destinies, we have become the monster. We are without bounds and power has corrupted us. What was once a man, living in fear, finding shelter and surviving at the mercy of the elements has become the very monster that strikes fear into the hearts of beasts. And what has the monster become? It has become as man once was. It's claws and fangs are no longer dangerous, they would do you no harm. It is no longer unknown, but entirely known, and exposed. It is simply another creature, trying to survive. Maybe you see this as a release, as humans rising up above their fears and nightmares of predators and monsters, to become a species able to look back and see that there was nothing to be scared of. But ask yourself, what would such a learned species do with such unrestrained knowledge and potential. There are no nightmares, no secrets, no boundaries holding us back. No natural laws can keep us, as a species in check. And maybe we, have become the imaginary monsters we once feared, and are ready to wreak natural havoc.
