I also thought about this. But then I remembered that the video is bullshit and the war is over since a long time.

[–]dogboyboy 24 points25 points ago

This. And to the raptor, yes. Supporting Invisible Children is supporting the US selling weapons to Ugandan Army (which also uses children soldiers) so they can track and "arrest" (kill) Kony... who has an army... that will fight for him. So yeah, if you support Kony 2012 you support one army of children fighting another one with discounted US munitions vs. discounted Soviet munitions. Great job everybody.

[–]apox64928 6 points7 points ago

maybe we should support them and then take bets on who wins.

[–]dogboyboy 0 points1 point ago

You can already do that. It's called wall street

[–]heywhatsgoingon 1 point2 points ago

hey, kill 30,000 to save 30,000

[–]PhilSushi 1 point2 points ago

Kony's current force is only about 300 kids. He's captured a total of 30,000 kids over the course of 25 years.

The video asks for US to help Ugandan army.

[–]dogboyboy 1 point2 points ago

Yes, I read this yesterday. It is mostly just a break down of their finances, which has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. Here is the problem phrase for me.

It supports the deployment of U.S. advisers and the provision of intelligence and other support that can help locate and bring Kony to justice,

This incredulously vague statement is intentionally so. US advisers is code for CIA who want to be in Uganda because of the recently found oil.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/26/world/africa/uganda-welcomes-oil-but-fears-graft-it-attracts.html?_r=1

"Provision of intelligence," CIA.

"Other support" could mean a myriad of things, most probably arms and munitions, which the US make quite a bit of money selling, but also could mean bases in the region to protect future crude oil investments.

The whole thing is being pushed by the arms and oil industries. The guy in the video works for the CIA and you are naive to think anything else. The video is a call to arms not a call to action. Donate to doctors without boarders or gates foundation if the white first world guilt is getting to you. IC is a pro-war campaign.

A link provided by the perpetrators of the scam is not a good source to debunk criticism. Here's a, say it with me now, third party investigative piece of journalism.

[–]apox64928 0 points1 point ago

does that mean we can get jobs in uganda? 'cause i'm having a terrible time finding one here.

[–]Shiftgood 0 points1 point ago

You didn't read it.

[–]dogboyboy 0 points1 point ago

Ummm I most certainly did. What exactly led you to that assumption? I think it is you who did bother reading my reply or the attached articles. A bit hypocritical to say "just read this. Be more informed" then not read the counter argument. It's really great that you post a video on your face book wall but it would seem you have a high schoolers understanding of the situation

[–]Shiftgood 0 points1 point ago

You make a claim that the guy works for the CIA without any citation. Claim it's a giant conspiracy by the military industrial complex... and then you link me to Black Star News as the most credible news source?

You also say my link is just a breakdown of finances when its only about 25% of that page. So it makes sense that I would assume you didn't read it.

But whatever. If you want to do nothing that's fine.

[–]dogboyboy 0 points1 point ago

What exactly are you doing? Do nothing for sketchy sounding charities. Conspiracy nuttery aside, this is a pro war/violence movement. As stated earlier, you wanna make an actual difference? Give money to Doctors With Out Boarders or The Gates Foundation. Vaccines and malaria preventing nets are as sexy as hunting down dictators in the jungle but they make a much greater difference and save much of lives than this campaign could ever hope to.

At first glance its a very nice band wagon you have there but I wonder what you'll be doing for IC a year from now. The smart moneys on not a thing.

While on the subject of shaky claims, I'd check the whole "If you don't want to do anything," speech when you know nothing of what I do and would be willing to bet just about anything that it is a hell of a lot more than you. Be honest with yourself, you became aware of this fro a YouTube video.

[–]I-Fixed-It 8 points9 points ago

This is one of the main flaws of their logic. That and the fact that want to vandalize and deface property on pot day.

[–]TerminalxSound 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, that's why Uganda has continually been open to negotiating peace talks with Kony...because, well, those are their children.

[–]cautioncarnival 2 points3 points ago

They mention that in the video, everyone. They said that's what has made it so hard to do anything, because he uses kids and we can't hurt them.

[–]yosoyelalex 2 points3 points ago

if you want to make an omlett, you've gotta break some eggs

[–]shwanzieP 3 points4 points ago

yes

[–]Tipsy_Gnostalgic 1 point2 points ago

"In order to save the village we had to destroy it."

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

the war has clearly not been over for a long time

[–]wiithepiiple 0 points1 point ago

It's kinda like the Matrix. We just need to get Laurence Fishburne and Keanu to set them free. We just have to hope Hugo Weaving doesn't have a Facebook.

[–]RosieJo 0 points1 point ago

Yes... That's a big problem with the Invisible children charity, they're a big fan of fighting violence with violence, meaning many child soldiers would die if they went ahead with their plan to capture Kony.

[–]adnan252 0 points1 point ago

I thought about this when creating the scenario in my head that a U.S black ops team could potentially be the ones to fight their way to kony.

[–]TMartin442 0 points1 point ago

Read A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah. It's about a young boy who is captured by a rebel group and forced to fight with them. After some time he starts to believe the rebel life is the only way and he voluntarily commits some pretty atrocious acts. I don't remember the details, but somehow he eventually lands in a correctional facility with other child soldiers where he finally parts ways with his rebel lifestyle and returns to a civilized life and even works with the UN and writes this memoir about his life.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

It's not like it's hard to fight children. They're small and fragile; even if you don't have any weapons it's easy to throw them around, or shatter their bones, or whatever.

If people actually cared about this issue, it wouldn't take much effort to kill them all and put an end to it. Problem solved.

[–]Neolance 0 points1 point ago

Indeed its the perfect plan! Quick America ! use our Children! there young and easy to train and nobody will kill them ...intentionally

[–]Websly 0 points1 point ago

lol and what do they need the money for?

[–]Jbsmitty44 0 points1 point ago

"The US has been involved in stopping him for years. U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) has sent multiple missions to capture or kill Kony over the years. And they’ve failed time and time again, each provoking a ferocious response and increased retaliative slaughter. The issue with taking out a man who uses a child army is that his bodyguards are children. Any effort to capture or kill him will almost certainly result in many children’s deaths, an impact that needs to be minimized as much as possible. Each attempt brings more retaliation."

[–]radlemonade 0 points1 point ago

That is one of my many reasons why I am not supporting this "movement".

[–]bangupjobasusual 0 points1 point ago

Yes, that's the point, thats why he abducts kids. So the parents are reluctant to kill his soldiers.

[–]ararphile 0 points1 point ago

Hitler had to fight Russians in order to liberate them from Stalin.

[–]downvotes_ararphile 0 points1 point ago

Popping in again to ask you politely to fuck off and die!

[–]S4NT0RUMZOIZ 0 points1 point ago

Why is this raptor talking? They died.

[–]TH3_P1R4T3 0 points1 point ago

My biggest question is what ever happened to Darfur?? wasn't that the last big thing we all got on board with...? Did we "win" that? Does anyone know without looking it up?

[–]bigbrother13 0 points1 point ago

FUCKING THANK YOU!!! this was my main arguement about this whole kony thing... damn it, i could have had so much karma -____-

YES, hello Stockholm Syndrome.

[–]IgnoreTheSpelling -1 points0 points ago

Why doesn't the US government send in an elite squad in the middle of night to find him, kill him, dump his body in the ocean and refuse to release the pictures?
