I had the same problem when Battlefield 3 came out, and again with Mass Effect 3. I know that I have DirectX installed, and there's no reason why I need to install it again. I do this simple trick every time it fails and it fixes it.

I hope this helps and I hope people who have this problem actually see this solution!

Not true. Thing is only the bad support threads get upvoted. If I now post a screen where the support actually helps me I'll get downvoted because it has no shock value or anything. Origin support is actually much better than /r/gaming makes it seem. All the times I've contacted them I've had my problem resolved with a few exceptions.

Also, the key is use e-mail support, live chat has much more incompetent people working in it, e-mail or phone is where it's at.

....The service is just bad. The only experience I had with Origin support for a game install giving me some trouble was a negative one. I was basically told to reinstall windows and they couldn't do anything else until I did that.

I mean really...

edit: but yeah I can agree that email is probably going to provide better support resolution, you can drop screenshots, etc in there to aid them as well.

I've used their support via email and live chat. Took about a week to get a reply via email, which didn't solve the problem. And they never resolved my problem via live chat. Couldn't play BF3 online for about 2 weeks. I know they may sometimes have good support, but it's not alright to let this kind of shit even slip through the cracks.

No, not at all. I have this game breaking issue where my game crashes at a certain point in the story. After countless attempts to fix it, and being on and off the phone with origin support for about two hours, I was told that I was being escalated to tier three support and they would contact me within a couple of days. I accepted this, and my only thought was that this was the best customer support I'd ever had. I was also told that "technicians" we're aware of the issue I was having.

Last night, I was checking my email, and found that they sent me an activation key for battlefield 3. Iogged into origin and used it, it worked. I will be installing it tonight.

I've used it once because my Cerberus network activation didn't work when i bought Mass Effect 2. His solution was to say "Do not worry, i will surely help you" and then asking me if i could start up the game, and if there was a "play game" button. ooh I so love doing that. I do travel / medical and car breakdown assistance. The most stressed out people are not the ones with a serious medical problem in say Laos or Kinshasa. No the worst and most demanding customers usually have a dead battery or flat tire a couple blocks from their home.

Customer: OMG, my car just broke down and OMG I'm gonna be late for work, and I can't be! I don't have time for this. And I think it's the battery and it won't start!!!!

Me: Okay (silence)

...

Customer: (getting mad) Well are you gonna help me or what? I need someone here in 15 minutes with a replacement car.

Me: (Long silence) Well I don't know. For starters, I don't know who you are, so i don't know if you're covered. I don't know where you are, so I don't know where to send help. I don't know what kind of car you have so I don't know what kind of equipment we should send. I don't know about a replacement car as a battery problem can usually be fixed on the spot. And I don't know if we currently have a helicopter circling your house so I'm not sure we can be there in 15 minutes.

Edit: This clearly doesn't have a lot to do with the original post. That's just terrible/no service. It just reminded me of how fun it can be to knock people out who feel mightily important and entitled with just one well placed word.
