I had the same problem when Battlefield 3 came out, and again with Mass Effect 3. I know that I have DirectX installed, and there's no reason why I need to install it again. I do this simple trick every time it fails and it fixes it.

I hope this helps and I hope people who have this problem actually see this solution!

Had same problem, go into Safe Mods with Internet and install the game from a fresh download. When installed try playing 5mins of a map and then you can restart into normal Windows.

Xbox Live Support and Origin Support have honestly never dicked me. Xbox Live got me all of my beta items for Gears of War 3 when my ex took the xbox that had my beta info on it (and I couldn't transfer it to the cloud.)

Easy solution: Download and run the DX setup yourself. Then install BF3... when the DXSETUP hangs, process kill it and the BF3 installer should continue...

ooh I so love doing that. I do travel / medical and car breakdown assistance. The most stressed out people are not the ones with a serious medical problem in say Laos or Kinshasa. No the worst and most demanding customers usually have a dead battery or flat tire a couple blocks from their home.

Customer: OMG, my car just broke down and OMG I'm gonna be late for work, and I can't be! I don't have time for this. And I think it's the battery and it won't start!!!!

Me: Okay (silence)

...

Customer: (getting mad) Well are you gonna help me or what? I need someone here in 15 minutes with a replacement car.

Me: (Long silence) Well I don't know. For starters, I don't know who you are, so i don't know if you're covered. I don't know where you are, so I don't know where to send help. I don't know what kind of car you have so I don't know what kind of equipment we should send. I don't know about a replacement car as a battery problem can usually be fixed on the spot. And I don't know if we currently have a helicopter circling your house so I'm not sure we can be there in 15 minutes.

Edit: This clearly doesn't have a lot to do with the original post. That's just terrible/no service. It just reminded me of how fun it can be to knock people out who feel mightily important and entitled with just one well placed word.
