Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

I have a hill in my backyard covered in crab apple. Bees love it, I'm talkin I've got probably 2000 bees on that hill at any point of day. They're great! They land on me while gardening and have never stung. I try to save them from drowning in my pool when I see them fall in. Additionally, I swear they're the ones helping my flowers/fruits bloom so well lately!

Yeah, I like bees.

And they must be doing a wonderful job! First time I had apples in years! And my lemon tree produces year round, which is nice. Happy little bees doin great work :)

That's not true, the wind works as a pollinator for trees as well. It's just not as effective as bees.

Edit: This got me curious so I did a bit of research, and found out that the wind does not work as a pollinator for crabapple trees, because the grains of pollen are too large. They rely heavily on bees and flies for pollination.

Sadly, no. I have no clue where they go when the sun sets, but they're gone by evening spare some few straddlers hanging out (lost, I think?). I'd love to harvest some honey, but alas I dislike responsibility :P

The wisteria scent is probably one of my favorite of all time. When spring comes to Texas, and we've had at least two weeks of warm weather--the wisteria all start to bloom and it's heavenly. I can never be mad when I'm walking outside and the wisteria are blossoming. :) Plus, if you can't help yourself and pick a few sprigs (at least of the wisteria frutescens), the scent transforms from a soft floral scent, to a much harsher wine smell that's incredible.

It's real (and has been posted several times before).

The thing about wistera (to many of us in the US) is that it's considered an invasive species. It grows rampart like a weed and will overtake other plants and even can do structural damage to nearby properties if left unchecked.

I looked into getting some and was scolded and told that Wisteria is something to be burned and hated rather than grown and loved.

I suppose it really depends on where you live and how much time/attention you want to give it (along with where you plan on planting it )

There is a wisteria native to the Southeastern US.

The introduced version does strangle forests, and it is a plauge upon gardens once it gets started. I don't know if the native version tries to take over your entire yard or not, but it presumably has some native bug that keeps it under control.

I lived in the Southeast US and that stuff is absolutely hell if you don't aggressively cut it back. Not just the branches, but the root system as well. I've seen wisteria climb up 50 feet into a pine tree. The bulb of the roots can grow to be 4 feet around. It really does have a beautiful flower for a couple weeks of the year, but I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Love to see it blooming up in the tall pines and cedars in the spring as you drive the roads.

But I detest the one growing near my house, it takes constant whacking back and wants to invade the porch and undermine the foundation. Never plant it near a structure.

Best to plant it out in the middle of a lawn and keep it trimmed into a shrub.

Wisteria is beautiful and a menace. It will take over trees and homes if left unchecked. It sends out runners and roots and will shoot up anywhere it can. It almost crept up on me like a triffid. However, I still like it...
