His name is Brian Kownacki. My brother was good friends with him growing up, and they played baseball together up until high school. Good kid. It was a shame he didn't get that ESPY because that was one hell of a move!

The blurns are loaded, the count is three blurns and two anti-blurns and the in-field blurn rule is in effect.

(They finally jazzed it up)

I did this in a game in high school, except I did more of a leap-frog move than a tumble like that.

Ha, are you fucking serious 30? Not even close. Quit trying to sell it.

I fucking hate that so much about sports. If you wouldn't argue every little thing that is obviously a correct call, maybe when you were upset it'd carry a little more weight with the officials.

[–]A_WILD_ABRA_APPEARED 2 points3 points ago

If you don't argue for your players, you stand a chance at losing their trust and confidence. Sometimes, coaches will argue calls they know are correct, because their players disagree. Some will even get themselves thrown out of the game to spark their team.

These things are part of what separates baseball managers. You have to know when to get angry and when to stay calm. Strategy can be taught, but it's the psychology that sifts out the poor managers.

I don't know the rules to baseball (yes I exist). Someone willing to explain the awesomeness of the gif?

[–]Honztastic 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You only ever really slide to avoid a tag. Feet or head first on the ground. Sometimes when the throw has definitely beat you, you just plow through the catcher to hopefully make him drop the ball. That's painful, a little dangerous, and doesn't work very often.

Catcher's physically block the path to home plate. In this case the catcher was standing up. There was NOWHERE to go to avoid the tag or get to the plate, since the throw beat him there.

So he just used athleticism to jump over the whole damn guy and score a run.

ty very much. I only had to additionally read what a "tag out" is on wikipedia and now it makes sense. thx

There's a rule against being awesome in baseball? Figures, that sport is boring as shit.

[–]lediablerouge 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

"With no formal training in gymnastics, Kownacki doubts he'll attempt his home-plate acrobatics again. But if he does, it will be perfectly legal.

"I looked up all the rules, and unless he hits the catcher, it's OK," said Rams' sports information director Joe DiBari."
