I have long thought that the gifting of Excalibur (Welsh: Caledfwlch) was a lot more interesting than Art Pendragon going down to a lake one morning and getting a sword thrown at him. I could imagine it being a story in its own right.

The Lady of the Lake, which in literature is something of a confusing character, could have her own mythology, much like Grendel's mother in the 2007 Beowulf movie.
