A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

It's a grain silo in a wintery field of snow.

[–]beefmasterson 7 points8 points ago

It's a space shuttle going into space. That wasn't so hard.

[–]brantdolve -1 points0 points ago

It's flacid?

You see, the dominant species on Earth is a race of bipedal, oxygen breathing hominids known as Homo Sapiens, or their colloquial nickname, the "Humans." These hairless apes somehow managed to learn to master their environment to such a degree that they can harvest vast quantities of natural resources from their home planet, including metals deep inside the crust. Combine that with a rudimentary knowledge of chemistry and physics, and humans have managed to build structures and tools that allow them to travel not only faster than their natural land speed, but to sail on top of Earth's aquasphere and even soar through the air!

More recently, humans have begun to foray into traveling outside the upper atmosphere of their home planet and into low Earth orbit. Hell, they even took the huge risk of landing a craft containing three humans on the surface of Earth's lone moon! The object pictured is what they refer to as a "space shuttle", a primitive vehicle used to carry several of their number into orbit and back. Yes, they constructed it out of natural resources found in their immediate environment!

I know, right? Carbon-based, oxygen-dependent organisms have really done some interesting things with the limited resources they have at hand. I've always said that these water-and-oxygen planets have potential for truly fascinating developments over time. It's very exciting to watch!

That's what I'm trying to tell you. Meat made the machines.

Fog is just clouds on the ground.

Man, it would be easier to explain how tide goes in, tide goes out.

[–]appropriate-username 1 point2 points ago

You mean it would be easier to explain how the moon got there?

[–]yeah_me 1 point2 points ago

You can't explain that!

[–]mikes210 1 point2 points ago

First off... the space shuttle doesn't do a direct 0 degree ascent. It rolls over on it's back and does an angled inverted ascent. like THIS

second.... if it went through those clouds like that. It has enough speed and airflow disruption so severely alter that cloud formation, like this https://encrypted-tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ8CAm7LM_3cJZzQA7Ecn2tINto-udElaK35kakYReIBSFnsEYk

simply put..> PHOTOSHOP. (but with just a little more information to back that up).

[–]graveybrains 0 points1 point ago

The space shuttle is launched vertically, it rolls later. Is this altitude at which it rolls high enough for clouds? Sweet picture, but the turbulence is following behind the plane like a ship's wake. The ass end of the shuttle hasn't broken the clouds in it's picture. And all of that is assuming the shuttle is actually in flight, and not on the ground in a fog like this.

Photographs represent things from the past not just the near present.

[–]zygntwin 0 points1 point ago

Been so long, may have to re-watch! :)

[–]graveybrains 0 points1 point ago

Spoiler: it's about a space shuttle :-)

[–]KatInDaHat 0 points1 point ago

I think it's pretty obvious...
