Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

I work at Disney as a photographer with the characters.

The process is that the character never approaches the animal, but if they owner insists on the dog meeting with the character (which is often why they waited in line actually) then it is allowed.

I totally understand where you are coming from and this is pretty much the only exception to the rule around Disney.

They usually get their share of love when they aren't working (no harness). This allows them to associate the harness with "work" and not play time... :)

Same deal applies. When they're working, they don't want love. They're not pets. They've been very specifically trained for those contexts, and there's no telling how they might respond to being treated that way while "in harness".

Think of it this way - when you're at work, do you want your friends hanging around you like they're at your place, just chillin' and making off-colour jokes? Probably not, because you're either trying to get your work done or worried that your boss will get pissed. Either way, you're likely to treat your friends differently than you normally would, and might even snap at them to get them to bugger off. There's a time and a place for casual hanging out, and it's not while you're on the clock. Well, working dogs "in harness" are on the clock, and they know it.

most actually don't while they are on duty. most dogs that are bred for a purpose are just as/if not more content doing that task as they are gettin some lovin, but they have to also know the distinction between work and play so they don't mess up their job and get someone killed.

and if you don't believe me, go to the airport and try to pet one of the bomb/drug dogs and see what happens

Typically you aren't supposed to pet them as long as the harness is on them (in this case it is), but I've noticed some owners are more lax about it than others.

Close your eyes for an entire roller coaster ride sometime. Also, open them sometime and realize blind people have non-blind relatives they want to do things with. Also, Disneyland likely caters to the other senses pretty heavily.

I have a good friend who is an interpreter for the deaf and she gets payed to interpret at concerts. These aren't the hard of hearing type either. They are straight up deaf.

I asked the question in a college class why would deaf people go to a concert. Everyone in class gave that surprised gasp, as if to say what I asked was downright the most offensive thing they'd ever heard.

However, my head wasn't the only one nodding in that "I finally get it" way when the prof. explained. I ask questions when I don't understand, period. Fuck people's sense of "sensitivity."

Answer I was given: It's the vibration. At some concerts (this was in reference for a concert specifically for deaf people), the audience is given giant balloons which react with the sound waves of a concert in interesting ways. They make the sounds pretty for the hearing in the audience, but the experience is mainly designed for the deaf.

And for clarification, I wasn't a dick when I asked the question. I was straight-forward, saying, "Maybe I'm sheltered, but I don't understand. Why would a deaf person go to a musical concert?"

My dad is blind, he does pretty much the same activities as anyone else would. He is even in a blind bowling league (sounds like a terrible idea, right?) and does well.

There is a lot of things for someone to experience who can't see. Sounds, rush of movement when on rides, taste, smell, etc. Especially at a place like Disney.
