I was a criminal justice major when I was an undergrad. My professor was the chief of police in the city where my school was. He would always tell us to report anything suspicious. Well, one day a girl came to him and said that she overheard a kid saying something about making Virginia Tech look like Disney Land. He immediately got two unmarked units to keep an eye on this guy. He was a very paranoid character and when he noticed unmarked cruisers following him, he tried to ditch them and they pulled him over. They found a shot gun and a hand gun with hundreds of bullets and extra magazines. They took him into custody and he was eventually sent to be treated for mental illness. Once he "got better" he went to the police station looking to get his guns back. One of his officers went into the Chief's office and said "Do we have any legal reason not to give him his guns back?" The Chief said "No, but I'm not going to give them to him." He also told us that if the guy were to try and get a judge to make him give the guns back, he would "lose" them, and write a check if he had to. He always had great stories. We had both President Clinton and Obama (before he was elected) come to our campus. His stories about crowd control for those events were pretty funny. Good times.
