Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

It kind of looks like it, but that could just be the zero gravity not pulling his face down into a frown. He may just be absolutely pissed off that someone put him in a plane, flew, almost, straight down and then tossed him in the air. I mean, how is he going to stop them?

Holy shit slowpoke, this thread is a month old :P

Anyways, I'm pretty sure he would say something if he was forced to do anything. Plus, the the fuck does that?

He has a copy of it on the door of his office (or used to at least), so it probably makes him happy too!

This is probably due to my current state of mind, but it actually makes me slightly sad knowing I'll never be happy as he probably is in this picture.

It is sad to think that in any era prior to now this man would have been discarded and abandoned. It warms my heart that such a brilliant mind is now still able to prosper despite being so limited. It is men like him who'll be the giants in tomorrow's history.

[–]JohnAnonymous 13 points14 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Hawking was able to demonstrate his brilliance when he was younger. This helped him to gain the means to continue to work and communicate, much to the advantage of basically everyone. I am humbled and grateful for his contributions.

But it also makes me fear the possibility that those who never get the chance to prove their mental abilities will never be able to contribute. Of all of the many things Hawking has helped to illustrate, there is one that any person should be able to understand: never judge a person by their outward appearance, no mater how tempting.

[–]slambob 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Isn't that the truth? Especially with some of the increased exposure of the incredible minds of autistic savants, it just goes to show you can never judge a book by its cover. I love Stephen Hawking- he's an incredible mind and an inspiration, and our world today would not be the same without him.

[–]wontonraider 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Mother of god... Quick! Somebody write a script for this epic plot line!

[–]QQing 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Bruce Becker (Shatner), an aging failed magician, whose stepson placed him in a home is beaten down by the depressing state of his twilight years looks to find solace in suicide until an orderly with a heart of gold (Guy from How I Met your Mother) takes interest in him. The Orderly reinvigorates Bruce's love for performing magic and starts acts for the other elderly members of the home, Bruce finds love in French widow (Goldie Hawn), eventually moving to the French Riviera where they live happily ever after. Robin Williams makes a surprise cameo as a catatonic veitnam vet.

Romantic/Drama "Twilight of the Heart"

Kirk McPherson (Guy from How I Met Your Mother), a high ranking military official who is tasked with creating a team capable of penetrating the upper seats of the Freemasons in order to procure information on their plans for a new world order. He choses Charles Hannis (Williams), a physically handicapped LAPD officer who has a way with the ladies and relation to multiple high ranking members of the Freemasons, and Doug Killpatrick (Shatner) a by the rules ex Marine whose WASP upbringing makes him a perfect saboteur. Together they must infiltrate the Freemasons to help reveal their insidious plot to take over the US government and bring an end to Freeworld.

Action/Comedy "Old Dog, New Tricks"

A heart warming comedy staring Robin Williams who plays a paraplegic single middle aged ex astronaut on the prowl for wife. His childhood friend, played by Bill Shatner, sends him on awkward sometimes crude blind dates. Though there is hard R comedy a silver lining is found when Robin William's true love appears in a twist of ironically perfect events.

Comedy/Romantic "Fly Me to the Moon"

[–]OnceButNeverAgain 2 points3 points ago

I wish this guy wasn't disabled. I mean, he's incredible, and he's truly inspirational, but imagine all the things he could have done in his lifetime if he had been able to write on his own and put stuff down on paper as soon as he thought of it. Really a question of ethics. Who knows, maybe if he was able-bodied, he wouldn't have been so interested in thought. The universe is a mysterious place, made a little less mysterious by this man.

[–]BeerPowered 2 points3 points ago

Free fall, not zero g

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It's called "zero g" because at the point where the plane is accelerating downward at 9.8 m/s2, the net force (often referred to as a g-force) is zero.

[–]ThePewber 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Just to clarify this a bit more, physicists often refer to accelerations in terms of the number of g's the object in question is experiencing, where 1 g is the acceleration experienced on the surface of earth. For example: "an astronaut in a shuttle may experience up to 10 g's of force." So, Stephen Hawking is, in fact, experiencing 0 g's here.

[–]Skellyton 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Umm, I don't think they would be pulling 10g's unless something out of the ordinary. Even with a suite designed for that kind of a pull even highly trained guys would be on the boarder of blacking out. Off the top of my head i think pilots can full around 8 with a special G suit.

[–]Kakofoni 29 points30 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Please, this is pointless hairsplitting. Even Hawking himself called it zero g

[–]craeyon 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think people just look over the details sometimes. There is no such thing as zero gravity. Gravity is ubiquitous. The "G" in "Zero-G" stands for acceleration due to gravity. Which, in free fall would be a net result of zero.
