Yes, this was actually the comic presented the day of Christopher Hitchens's death. Go C&H!

Rehosting Cyanide & Happiness on imgur is the laziest of lazy content.

[–]InfintySquared 6 points7 points ago

Thank you. It bugs the heck out of me when people post a comic strip image on imgur, thus denying the comic artist the linkthroughs, as well as possible new fans and ad revenue.

At least this one didn't strip out the identifying information from the image as well.

I thought I read somewhere that the C&H guys were cool with it as long as they kept the URL on the bottom.

this would only be true if the other place was exactly the same as Earth. If the other place is worse, then he may not be going to a better place by default.

[–]tashtrac 1 point2 points ago

Glad I'm not the only one scratching my head over this one.

[–]human_folly 0 points1 point ago

Exactly, it is a nice sentiment but logically flawed.

[–]belloch -1 points0 points ago

You have to think of the perspective too. On whose perspective is the world worse off without the great people?

[–]slimmyshady 0 points1 point ago

a little African boy from a Brazilian tribe in the Amazon?

[–]GrelodTheKind 1 point2 points ago

OK. I must be fuckin' stupid, but I don't get this comic, and since it has been reposted so many times, it is obvious a lot of people do.

Here's what I get from it: The world is worse off without them, so it means they are in a better place by default? We can't say they're in another place at all... most likely they simply don't exist anymore. So would this comic be saying that not-existing is a better alternative to living in a world sans the dead person? Kinda weird.

[–]incindyary 1 point2 points ago

They're in a better place: the past.

[–]belloch 0 points1 point ago

Technically they don't exist in this world after death, so they are not here. Even if they are in "nowhere", it's a better "place" because the world they previously were in has become worse now that they are gone.

[–]guy_lovejoy 1 point2 points ago

logically flawed, downvoted

[–]Ragnalypse 1 point2 points ago

Except they no longer exist. You don't have a body, you are one.

They're not in any place.

[–]AphexWin 1 point2 points ago

I don't think people stop existing once you put them into the ground

[–]MrCronkite 1 point2 points ago

A person is not merely a body. A person is the connections between neurons and the carefully preserved ion gradients that decay within hours, if not minutes. By the time they are in the ground, that is gone.

[–]AphexWin 0 points1 point ago

A person also happens to be what you'd call a human, dead or alive.

[–]Ragnalypse 0 points1 point ago

By that logic, they're in the same place we are.

Unless you're talking about an "afterlife", in which case you're an idiot.

[–]AphexWin -1 points0 points ago

That was my point asshole. After a person dies, they become a dead body, they don't become non-existent. I didn't say anything about an afterlife either, you're being a cunt for no good reason.

[–]Ragnalypse 0 points1 point ago

Usually we ascribe someone's "being" to their consciousness, which ceases to exist once the brain cells are dead.

Chill the fuck out, or be correct.

[–]AphexWin 0 points1 point ago

Consciousness also ceases to exist when you get knocked out, become brain dead, or fall into a coma, I guess we stop existing when those things happen to us. It's also kind of odd to tell someone to chill out when you insulted them first, for no reason.

[–]Ragnalypse 0 points1 point ago

I told you to chill the fuck out or be correct, I fall under the second category even if you debate the first.

Your mind still exists when you're unconscious, but if your brain cells are dead then "you" do not exist. This isn't a philosophical debate, that is simply what we refer to as "you".

[–]AphexWin -1 points0 points ago

You didn't say that someone's being had anything to do with their having a living mind, you said that you ascribed someone's being to their consciousness.

[–]Ragnalypse 0 points1 point ago

I don't think you understand how brains work. Also, I referred to consciousness as having a mind, not the one that falls under "unconscious" referring to a sleeping person who's still thinking.

[–]Forss 0 points1 point ago

Except in the past.

[–]Komprimus 0 points1 point ago

But the past doesn't exist anymore.

[–]Ragnalypse 0 points1 point ago

Yup... the usual word is "existed". I guess even r/atheism has its illogical assertions.

[–]Komprimus 0 points1 point ago

Imagine a good person is in a pub. He leaves the pub. The pub has become a little worse than it was with him in it. That says nothing about the place he is at after he left. The pub might have been located in a very bad part of town.

[–]WeaponsGradeHumanity 0 points1 point ago

It reminds me of MASH. So much blood and gore and then something incredibly insightful and poetic.

[–]yaktoast -1 points0 points ago

This is right there with the lack of logic expressed when we see ppl so sad when a religious person dies. If they believed that they've actually gone to heaven like they preach about then they should be stoked that person died. Dead, poof, heaven. And when the grieving ppl die they think they'll see them in heaven. So religious ppl should see death as a temporary inconvenience with all those piles of faith they've got...

[–]Forss -1 points0 points ago

To people not getting it, they are in the past, which is better than the present because they were still alive.

[–]MadcowPSA -1 points0 points ago

STOP. REHOSTING. COMICS.

FUCK YOU.
