Christians generally view gay as actually engaging in homoerotic behavior, not simply being genetically predisposed to finding your gender preferable to the opposite gender. Christians do not accept the concept of gay children for example. In the christian mind, children having not had sex can not be gay. This is why christians view gay as a choice and not something innate such as biological conditions like skin color or eye shape.
Ask yourself, can a straight man can engage in gay sex, enjoy it, and not be gay? Why?

Of course a good fuck can be life changing. I said "fundamentally change who you are" because I meant that you're not going to have LSD style life changing effects from sex. The gender of who you fuck is not going to cause you to suddenly give a damn about starving kids in Africa such that you go get on a plane to go feed them personally. LSD might have this effect on you however because it can fundamentally change brain chemistry, literally changing who you are. My entire feeling is that life is short, find someone to fuck and be happy.
I suppose what I meant was that my relationship with my wife - which, after all, is a relationship about whom to fuck, how, and when - has been life changing for me.

Depends on what you mean by "enjoy". If you mean "achieve orgasm," well, a wet noodle can get most guys off so that's no thing. If you mean enjoy it as in want to do it again, be turned on by the sight of a male body,etc then yeah, that dude's gay (or bi). And I suspect that most people are a lot more fluid sexually than we all want to admit (ie, I don't think that gay/straight is a demarcation--I think it's a continuum).

Sex isn't just putting things in places, it's about emotionally connecting to another human being. Gay people connect to the same gender, straight people connect to the opposite gender, although both are a fluid scale with bisexual people smack in the middle.
It's great that you don't believe in labels, but you can't therefore reduce the act to one of rubbing mucus membranes together. There's a deeper element, and critically, the gender of the person you're with will define your enjoyment of the act. Do it blindfolded and you need to imagine a person, and a gender; doing anything else is classified as a fetish, and fetishism is not a generalizable occurrence in the population.
Who/what you connect with is arbitrary and entirely dependent on personal world experiences. Sexuality is not about emotionally connecting, it is about sex. That's why sex is in the name.
Sexuality is not a fluid scale. There are three reasonably well defined positions, gay, straight, and bi. These positions are entirely arbitrary and can be changed with the slightest personal desire. No one can tell you that you are gay, you have to find out for yourself. Many "obviously gay" people enjoy heterosexual relationships and have never had gay relationships.

I think part of why this conversation is difficult is that I don't really know what you're saying. I feel you're mixing up a lot of terminology and aren't really clear on how they relate to your point.
For example, objectophilia is a fetish. My position as per the last paragraph is that fetishes have nothing to do with your sexual orientation.
Either you feel that sexuality is defined by what you fap to (men, women, toasters), or you feel that sexuality is who you emotionally connect with (as in, love). I think that the first option is ridiculous because it means that a gay man is only gay because he happened to put his penis in a male anus - that is not what being gay is, not what would be the defining characteristic of any gay man; just ask one.
But like I said, I'm unsure of what you're saying, maybe your point is that sexuality is more than who you fuck; the second option.

That right there is the problem. The definition of sexuality is entirely 100% up to the individual in question. No one can tell you you are one way or the other, you have to figure it out for yourself. Even if your genetics say you are one way or the other you can still override them with experience.
Part of my point is that labeling sexuality is as tedious as calculating the distance from Detroit to London in nanometers. Sexuality, like plate tectonics, is not a fixed constant, so to calculate it so precisely is meaningless.
The other part of my point is that defining your sexuality in such precision means that you are literally cutting yourself off sexually from half the population. Don't be so closed minded.

I would presume you're bisexual? Most people fall withing gay or straight sexual preferences, only a small minority are capable of sexual attraction to both genders.
Secondly, gays have faced adversity from society and the law and continue to do so in many countries. People can reduce who we are down to sexual conduct alone, but this is offensive. Gay people fall in love, find companionship in the same gender just as heterosexuals do. Yes, maybe some straight people could have a homosexual experience. That doesn't make you gay, IMO. Falling in love with a person of the same gender does.
My preference is to masturbate because sex is only so-so, but I'm a romantic and I choose to have sex with the person I love as well. Sex is more of an enjoyable duty than something I require. I like my porn with lots of bodies doing everything.

I am pointing out why labeling is a good thing. The gay rights movement have made progress by labeling ourselves "gay" (acronym for "good as you"). This has allowed us to stand as one, to fight oppression, to be perceived as a distinct social group worthy of the same rights as others.

We're going with the idea that attraction and not necessarily action is what makes you gay, right? Based on the 2002 CDC study, over 18% of the US population is bisexual. To put that in perspective, non-religious/atheists clock in at about 15% of the population.
Maybe if organized gays spent less time being proud of their gayness, literally as offensive as the KKK being proud of their straightness and whiteness, and focused on being recognized as human people and not as "gay people", just maybe they would have been able to get their marriages recognized at a national level by now instead of only having their gay-marriages recognized by a select few states.

Your math is wrong. 12.9% of women and 5.9% of men (18-44) would not equal "over 18% of the US population.". First, you're extrapolating one group to the entire population. Second, assuming the population of males and females in said group is equal, the overall percentage (for that group) would be 9.4%. No idea what you were trying to convey here anyhow.
First, the male:female ratio is close enough to 50:50 for the purposes of an informal reddit argument. The percentages can simply be added together.
Second, the the study was released in 2002 and the (18-44) demographic is already a very large sample size. Ten years have passed. Presumable the current (18-28) demographic is similar to what it was in 2002, and equally presumably the current (44-54) demographic is similar to the same age group in 2002. This literally expands the age group by 10 years in each direction, for a 46 year window. It is atleast accurate for 25% of the population and by extrapolation accurate for at least 50%. In all likelyhood it's accurate for the entire population.
In pointing this out I hoped to convey the reality that labeling one's sexual preferences only seeks to limit one's exposure to all the world has to offer. A person having only opposite gender relations is not straight but rather abstinent of same gender relations. A person having same gender relations is not gay but rather abstinent of opposite gender relations. A person having both same and opposite gender relations is not bisexual but rather more open to exposure to all the world has to offer.
My point is that labels like gay and straight are pointless because they seek to divide humans into categories that we were never meant to be sorted into. We're humans. We fuck. It's what we do. There is no need to arbitrarily label oneself one way or the other and instantly lock out literally half of what sexual intimacy has to offer.

Straight and gay are pointlessly descriptive labels. It's like measuring the distance from London to Detroit in nanometers. Sure you can do it, but it just doesn't make any sense to do so because the number won't be accurate but for a moment thanks to plate tectonics. Modern research is readily showing that gay and straight are not fixed and unchangeable positions but rather variable positions that do change over time, much like my aforementioned distance between London and Detroit.

I think that "gay pride" and "black pride" are used more as protests to homophobes and racists, saying that the fact that others hate them won't change them. It's also sort of defense against homophobes or racists. I think that if there were no homphobes, gay pride wouldn't exist, or at least not nearly to the extent it does today.
I see what you're saying, but I think you missed what I was saying. Gay/straight/white/black are genetic. You can choose to live a hetero lifestyle and you can choose to lighten or darken your skin tone. Or you can just be happy with who you are.
But to have pride in your genetics that you literally did nothing to earn, that is repugnant. Be proud of the things you do, in the things you achieve, but not about things you have no control over, such as your luck-of-the-draw genetics.

Good luck convincing your average conservative Christian of that. If gay sex wasn't a sin, then their understanding of the Bible would be wrong. Since it's obviously not, gay sex must be a sin and although they might not know exactly why you're wrong, you must be.
You can't use evidence or the position of the APA to argue that sexual orientation isn't a choice, because their understanding that it is a choice is not based in reality.

Well the fact is that here in the US (I'm not sure about other countries) each prejudice takes time to get over... I mean we still deal with people who have prejudices against people for matters of race, though it is now "normal" to believe prejudice against races is wrong, it was not always that way.
In matters of sexual preference it really hasn't been very long since Ellen, and other stars started coming out of the closet, and gay pride parades and what not that made being anything but heterosexual "okay".
Homosexuality and transgender isn't totally mainstream, though I am kind of fascinated by how fast it is going mainstream. I mean, I'm only 34 and attitudes have changed so much over the last 20 years alone. It's kind of amazing. But its been over 50 years since segregation against African American's started to be repealed... and there are still hold outs for that. Still those who don't see men and women as equal. Still people who actually believe stereotypes...
So again... the fact is that it isn't viewed the same way as race by many people and will take time to change. It isn't really surprising that churches are the last hold outs since they view it as a morality issue and a choice, not a part of our genes.

I don't know how much I agree with that. People seem to discredit their power over their emotions. If someone truly doesn't wish to feel a certain way, they can alter the way they feel.
I'm not going to expand that to incriminate people for their feelings. All I am saying is that people have more control than they give themselves credit.
Also, I don't at all agree with being born with a sexuality. Perhaps ultimate sexuality is unavoidable due to certain circumstances, but I wholly believe that it is a person's experiences that shape him/her. Any rebuttal to this should fall to reliable scientific evidence, because I have never seen anything to reliably support or deny this claim.
THAT BEING SAID - I highly doubt that Religion is the best place to go for help in successfully controlling your emotions. That is all.

Why would a person not want to be gay? Who created that environment to begin with? They did. Finally, as every medical organization has attested, you cannot cure sexual orientation. Ergo, giving someone false hope to cure a condition they caused that person is actually extremely disrespectful.

The point I was trying to make is that if the implications of a idea are not respectful, then the idea itself is not respectful, regardless of the words used to represent it. Therefore that idea is not deserving of respect. Let me be clear, I do not advocate the censoring of that idea, only that it be given the respect it deserves in intellectual conversation.
I would argue that abhorrent ideas dressed in respectful language is even more disgusting than abhorrent ideas plainly stated. Using respectful language to dress up the disrespectful implications of that idea is being intellectually dishonest. It's usually an act of deception in an effort to obtain social acceptance. This excludes the discussion of abhorrent ideas in the context of real, rational, respectable debate of course. (i.e. this discussion, which is why I respectfully disagreed).
Edit: To be clear, I am not implying you are attempting to dress up an immoral idea. You've clearly stated it's immoral, and I accept that claim as accurate.

Is the 'Truth Ministry' a real organization or is it just satirical? I've sent them a mail with the question but they did not respond yet. They say there is no evidence of any genetics that are associated with homosexuality etc. - How can an organization like that exist? Can't they be accused for discrimination? This is a violation against the human rights! Why doesn't anyone do anything about this? I recently discovered all these kinds of organizations and I was so disappointed in the world!
