Looking for an image subreddit with minimal rules? Check out /r/images

A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Spoiler code

Please mark spoilers like this:
[text here](/spoiler)

Hover over to read.

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), weight loss photos, posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. Weight loss photos go in /r/loseit, DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

I'm in Indiana. We just got 50. Our community is fucking leveled. My sisters house got destroyed. So fucking horrific. I'm still in shock. This is the picture she took before it hit her house

This is one that popped up on my newsfeed a mile away

[–]quaquenbiquar 53 points54 points ago

Holy. Fucking. Shit.

[–]thundercats_GOOOO 59 points60 points ago

I know. Her house is gone, but she's safe. 3 of her neighbors are missing. I live in a town 10 minutes from her and got flooded. Every other town around us; completely fucked. One is completely gone. We literally had 50 hit over the course of 6 hours. This one pictures was an EF5. My facebook feed reads like a missing persons website. I'm in shock and totally heartbroken.

[–]VAPossum 8 points9 points ago

"My facebook feed reads like a missing persons website. I'm in shock and totally heartbroken."

Oh my god. :(

[–]fetalbeej 18 points19 points ago

it's tough, but you are blessed your sister is safe. my sister was in the middle of tuscaloosa back in april. everything around her was destroyed, but fortunately she was safe. it still sends shivers down my spine thinking of that day. today I was in the dark with what the weather was doing since I don't service in the hospital, but I freaked out a little when CNN sent a notification saying one touched down where my parents live. you can't predict these things, but like I said, be at peace that your sister is alive and help those that are hurting.

[–]thundercats_GOOOO 15 points16 points ago

I am so glad to hear your sister was safe, too. These things... they're monsters. I can't believe how big and strong they are. It's still unbelievable.

[–]fetalbeej 11 points12 points ago

I know man, thanks too. one of her friends recorded everything from his phone and Discovery Channel used a lot of his audio and some video for a special they did not long after the April ones. I watched it the other day to show a friend how crazy close she was. unfortunately, one of her friends and many, many others weren't as lucky. watching on live TV 45 minutes away, seeing that funnel cloud turn into a tornado, knowing your family member is in the middle of it, and getting a "I'm really scared right now, I love you" right when it happens...puts things in perspective. I don't know how your relationship was with your sister before this, but hopefully this might draw it closer as it did with me.

[–]thundercats_GOOOO 9 points10 points ago

Honestly, I don't know how I feel. I need to cry, or scream, or... something. But it's like today is caught in my throat. I feel elated that my sister is okay; the inital relief hearing from her literally buckled my knees. But her neighbors are still missing. Her town is demolished; almost all of our neighboring towns are. This community is so fucked now. I can't celebrate because a lot of people I know are missing or homeless, while I sit here in my bed on Reddit.

These supercells are still moving and taking everything with them. We had daylight on our side, everyone else tonight... their turn will be awful.

[–]fetalbeej 7 points8 points ago

do what you need to man. in the past year my family has seen my dad have a lethal heart arrhythmia, sister surviving possibly Alabama's worst tornado in history, and now just two days ago my grandmother finding out she has colon cancer. I'm still trying to process it all and yet had to be up at 4:45 am today and tomorrow to go work. life never seems to slow down but honestly man, you just have to find time for yourself and process everything. you don't have to be silent in that either. oddly enough, I found peace last year helping complete strangers just simply clear out fallen down trees, limbs and what not from their backyard. just step back, and breathe.

[–]thundercats_GOOOO 9 points10 points ago

Jesus! You must have mighty broad shoulders. That's a lot for one family to go through. My heart goes out to you and yours.

I'm a stay at home mommy, so I'm limited to what I can do as far as getting out there and my hands dirty. My toddler is always stuck to my side. I think for the most part right now will be to donate. Clothing, food, toys, etc. anything we don't need, (which we have a lot of) will be given to the area shelters. I've thought about petitioning my friends, but some of them have family and friends still missing. They will get dinner and my shoulder. I just don't know what else to do.

[–]fetalbeej 5 points6 points ago

I appreciate it. It has been tough, but you have to stay strong through it all. everyone has their weaknesses, but everyone has their strengths too. you might not be able to get out there and help physically clean up, but geez I guarantee you people will accept their donations after they have lost everything they have own. you seem to have a good heart and it will not go unnoticed. do your best tonight to get some rest.

[–]nukedukem96 5 points6 points ago

I can't say I've ever been or will ever be in your place, but my heart goes out to you and your sister, and everyone whose missing someone

Thank you. That's very kind.

[–]TheKolbrin 8 points9 points ago*

I hate to mention this right now- but the Gulf of Mexico waters are even warmer this year so far than last year and the Jet Stream is on the same anomalous path as last year- set to pull that warm, moist gulf stream air right up through the south to midwest - like last year but possibly even worse because of the Gulf temperatures.

If you look at the Jet Stream you will see it goes far north over the Pacific and then drops down deep south mid US. Thats because the Jet Stream pattern is off course. That is because the warming Pacific Ocean air masses rising and pushing it to the north- then it is self correcting- swooping southward across the US till it hits the warm air rising from the Gulf of Mexico. Where it turns back north it is fronted by very unstable air. Watch that line for your future tornados this spring. Everyone needs to check their weather forecast every single day this spring if you are in tornado zones and be safe!

[–]thundercats_GOOOO 2 points3 points ago

Does that mean we're going to get more?

[–]Obliviousobi 7 points8 points ago

There's a strong possibility, unfortunately.

Wasn't it Kansas and Alabama that got hit by 3-4 bad tornados last year?

[–]Dannilise 6 points7 points ago

Kansas made it out relatively unscathed. Reading, KS got hit pretty bad but nothing like Joplin, Mo or Tuscaloosa, AL. The big damage was centered in Missouri, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Kentucky last year.

I live in Manhattan, Kansas and I know that y'all eastern-mid-westerners got over the average amount of Tornados for the entire month tonight. I immediately got renters insurance. This year's going to suck.

Edit: If I remember correctly, last year we also saw something like five EF5 tornadoes when the yearly average is one or two. If we've already had one hit somewhere tonight, it really does not bode well.

[–]thundercats_GOOOO 4 points5 points ago

I didn't see that last bit; you obviously answered my question. I'm sorry. My brain is exhausted. Excellent info.

[–]Kornstalx 2 points3 points ago

I was about one mile away from the guy taking this video, shitting my pants.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ohIVzIZLuQ

[–]tragic_pizza 0 points1 point ago

That guy was a MORON...

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

There's a bunch tearing through the south as we speak

[–]F-Stop 2 points3 points ago

I'm no meteorologist, but it's so warm this year in the south, it seems like the Gulf Coast might be primed to charge up the hurricanes that head that way. Not to mention the obvious danger with tornadoes that's happening.

My family is from Knoxville, and they had bad weather today, but I don't think any hit Knox Co. Blount Co. I think and Cleveland, but not really Knox Co.

[–]ilikefries 5 points6 points ago

Wow

[–]mylittlepizza 4 points5 points ago

i have been freaking out today because there has been tornadoes all over Kentucky, but thankfully nothing was damaged down here. glad to know people are okay. things can be replaced but people can't.

[–]Tivrusky 1 point2 points ago

Pretty sure the second picture is from the EF4 that hit Harrisburg Illinois.

[–]thundercats_GOOOO 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, it popped up on my newsfeed on Facebook. Someone claimed the rights to it, saying they took it. I thought I corrected the post, but I guess not. :-/ thanks!

[–]Tivrusky 1 point2 points ago

No worries, there were several people doing the same thing in my area when the tornado hit(I'm in Southern Illinois).

[–]thundercats_GOOOO 0 points1 point ago

Why the hell would they do that? It's like our own devistation isn't cool enough.

[–]Tivrusky 1 point2 points ago

Because people are bastard coated bastards with bastard filling.

[–]thundercats_GOOOO 0 points1 point ago

I will absolutely use this and may or may not give you full credit.

[–]Tivrusky 0 points1 point ago

I can't take credit, unfortunately. It's a quote from Scrubs.

[–]Sonris 1 point2 points ago

Stupid question, in areas of heavy tornado traffic, why do we keep building above ground dwellings?

It never seems to work out.. .You know.. The whole ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure thing...

[–]thundercats_GOOOO 0 points1 point ago

Or stronger structures. Or a zero mobile home tolerance. This outbreak is completely unnatural for our area, especially in March. It's not even tornado season yet! Even during tornado season, we get piss examples of the word. Nothing like Kansas or anything. This was a freak deal.

[–]VAPossum 3 points4 points ago

FIFTY?

Holy shit. I am so sorry.

[–]djtheninja 1 point2 points ago

Is that near Vevay IN by any chance? I'm across the river and some cities around me got hit, not as hard though

[–]nickiter 1 point2 points ago

The worst of it missed us. I took my dogs for a walk and came back to find that at the same time, this was happening. I live less than 40 minutes from that town.

Scary.

[–]Afootlongdong 1 point2 points ago

Both of those pictures, but the 2nd one especially, holy shit..

[–]roicecraft 1 point2 points ago

What part of Indiana? I live pretty close to Henryville... and there pretty much isn't a henryville anymore. Along with a few other places pretty close as well. It was crazy to see all the damage. Places that I knew like the back of my hand, completely unrecognizable. I'm glad you and your family are ok. My mom is a therapist that's trained for things like this and has been offering help to people that lost houes and family members.

[–]bvanman 2 points3 points ago

I didn't even do a search for Henryville but it's the first town mentioned in this article. I wish the best for your family and community.

[–]thundercats_GOOOO 0 points1 point ago

Thank you. It's kind of you to say. I think last time I checked, the death toll was at twenty. "The light of day brings so much darkness."

[–]thundercats_GOOOO 1 point2 points ago

She's in Pekin, I'm in New Albany. I didn't get anything but flooding.

We're going to go up to Pekin today to see what we can salvage. It feels unreal; like it didn't happen. Do you know of any community clean ups or donation programs yet?

That's so kind of your mom. If you think she might be interested in talking to my sissy, PM me her contact info and I'll pass it along.

Hoosiers are tough. We'll get through this.

[–]roicecraft 1 point2 points ago

I'm in New Albany as well. I'd say we got more lucky then anything. I haven't found anything yet, but I'm pretty sure the news stations have up links on websites for it. I'll talk to my mom when I get the chance. You should hear from me by the end of the day. If not, I know red cross offers the same therapy help, and I believe it's free as well.

[–]thundercats_GOOOO 1 point2 points ago

High five for New Albany. I can't believe we came out unscathed on this one. Thanks for the info. I'm sure my sister will need it. :-(

[–]roicecraft 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, to think we didn't even get much hail and only a short time of rain while just a drive away everything is gone. Makes me feel bad, but thankful at the same time.

No problem, it's the lest I can do.

[–]iusedtobeapineapple 1 point2 points ago

Man that sucks, So sorry for your sisters loss. Just as a side note though, that second image from your newsfeed a mile away, has been floating around the internet for about 4 years

[–]thundercats_GOOOO 0 points1 point ago

Thanks on both. Another Redditor told me that was inaccurate as well. It popped up on my Facebook newsfeed from a friend saying they took it, who lives a mile from my sisters. I fucking ripped his shit!!

[–]GoodGuyAnusDestroyer 93 points94 points ago

[–]The_Frito_Bandito 4 points5 points ago

Please do. I wish I had hugged mine more.

[–]PoniesRBitchin 6 points7 points ago

DON'T YOU START, MAN.

[–]PocketPillow 0 points1 point ago

It's moments like these that make me happy I live in the Pacific northwest. No tornados, no hurricanes, no earthquakes.

[–]FordSVT1 0 points1 point ago

Pacific northwest no earthquakes

Not lately, but your time will come. Potentially enormous. Like, "Seattle, Portland and Vancouver fall down and the entire coast will be washed away by tsunami" enormous.

[–]Eat_The_P00r 1 point2 points ago

GO NORTHEAST!

[–]PocketPillow 0 points1 point ago

enjoy that over population and leaf peepers ever year...

[–]downr0deo 47 points48 points ago

I love my dog more than all my relatives combined

[–]EntreRios 2 points3 points ago

Same for me. I would add "and in times of distress, I'd look after my dog before anyone else".

Girlfriend, friends, family? All of them can walk, help, take cover, take care of themselves/eachother; my dog simply cannot: he depends on me and for sure he's just in top of my list of priorities.

[–]bink821 0 points1 point ago

Ditto. Me & my dog are unstoppable. Me & anyone or anything else bores & annoys me.

tl;dr. Dogs are awesome.

[–]parrotsnest 41 points42 points ago

The dog appears to be thinking "I got you man"

[–]Zaargg 32 points33 points ago

That dog looks like he's seen some things.

[–]jsellout 24 points25 points ago

Butts, lots of butts.

[–]syndromeofadown 1 point2 points ago

Thanks for the laugh in this super sad thread! Totally don't have to cry now.

[–]MFLBlizzle 6 points7 points ago

And some stuff, I wouldn't recommend it.

[–]A_DERPING_ULTRALISK 56 points57 points ago

Best part is the dog probably has no idea wtf is going on.

[–]j_to_the_mo 25 points26 points ago

I agree, my dog has no idea.

I love him.

When I come home he is always so happy to see me.

The times he got out and was gone. But, he came home anyway. I was happy to see him. I think he knows it.

Now he is at my feet, I have my socks off, he's keeping my feet warm. I love that dog

[–]spupy 2 points3 points ago

Man, I want a dog. :(

[–]SuminderJi 1 point2 points ago

I really doubt that, animals seem to be more in tune with nature and when drastic events seem to happen.

[–]iaccidentlytheworld 1 point2 points ago

I think he knows that something is wrong, yet remains noble through the ordeal.

Here is a photo of a friends house that was destroyed in Harvest, AL today. It took the same path as last year, this is the second time in less than a year her home was destroyed. http://i.imgur.com/0iju3.jpg

[–]Grimsterr 1 point2 points ago

I live in Harvest, my butthole was clenching as I watched those storms sail just barely north of my house today, I had significant damage in April during that round so i really didn't want a repeat. Sorry to hear your friend had a repeat, he's not alone :( saw several reports of "they just moved back into their house and now it's destroyed again" on the news tonight.

[–]mandog202 0 points1 point ago

I drove home on hwy 53 through Harvest today and noticed how this one passed just to the right of publix, and last years was just to the left. that's at least the 4th time a tornado has passed through there (74, 95, 11, and today)

"We are alone, absolutely alone on this chance planet: and, amid all the forms of life that surround us, not one, excepting the dog, has made an alliance with us."

[–]NZUVTO 13 points14 points ago

Cats have made an alliance with humans. It is cold, contractual, and often mutually beneficial. Dogs said, "screw it, we're going all in!" (Love my cat, though.)

[–]maddawg579 2 points3 points ago

There's one reason why I can't stand cats, but love dogs more than anything in the world. With cats, I feel like I'm the one who has to please and service them. With dogs, they feel the need to please and service us. I'll be damned if I'm going to try to please and service an animal that's less intelligent than a 3-year-old.

[–]NZUVTO 0 points1 point ago

I like to think of my cat as a living work of art. Instead special temperature and humidity controls, it needs cat food. I appreciate its elegance and fluidity, and it doesn't steal my breath in my sleep. It's a perfect arrangement.

[–]AduroNox 3 points4 points ago

Oh thank god the dog's okay!

[–]homemadejam 4 points5 points ago

[–]refudiat0r 3 points4 points ago

[–]JohnnyFrosh 2 points3 points ago

Here's a radar capture I took of the super cell and tornado that destroyed much of West Liberty, Kentucky earlier this evening. I cannot imagine being in the middle of a hook echo that large. What a bad day.

[–]heythatsfuckedup -1 points0 points ago

Why don't people move to tornado-less areas? The cost to continuously rebuild must be financially and emotionally taxing.

The government needs to do something about these Uprovoked Attacks by MN. We know where they're coming from, how they're formed?, why not send some ships to blockade the source or even a preemptive strike. We could topple the current regime and have a new element up there running things in no time.
