This get posted kind of frequently. but just to point some things out.

day/month/year and month/day/year are both retarded. year/month/day is the best for sorting order and information. day/month/year sorted will give you every 1st of January, from 1 through 2012, before a 2nd of January. year/month/date; you get the time period first, the time of year second, and the time of month last. This is useful for history.

Fahrenheit isn't based on some random arbitrary numbers. Educate yourself. It was originally based on a salt/ice/water solution = 0, ice water = 32, and human body = 96. This got thrown out and was just based on ice water and the human body at 96 (which turned out to be wrong). Thus if ever without another thermometer, you could create your own. If you notice difference between salt/ice/water to freezing (32) and ice water to human body (64) are both base two numbers. So dip thermometer in ice water, make a mark (32), put thermometer under arm, put a mark (96). Now place a halfway mark (64), now two mark hlway between the 3 marks (48,80), keep going and you will have whole numbers until you get a halfway between 32 and 33 size differences. It is useful in that sense, celcius is harder 0 to 100, halfway is 50, halfway is 25,75, halfway is 12.5,37.5,62.5,87.5. It gets messy.

Think of it this way. It is easier to take a long length of rope and cut it into 64 equal length pieces, then it is to cut a long rope into 50 equal length pieces.

Measurements of length are the same thing to. Based off the human body, and easily reproduced.

TL;DR If civilization collapses, Fahrenheit/Empirical system will survive in some form, Celcius/SI will crumble.

Based off the human body, and easily estimated you mean.

Which is most of the problem. You said it yourself, it's based off flawed data. My foot is approximately 12 inches long. 12 inches is approximately 30cm, therefore my foot is approximately 30cm long. Neither system is fundamentally more accurate, simpler, nor more 'armageddon-proof' than the other.

Main difference is that metric is built to interrelate. 1 Litre of water weighs 1 Kilogram, occupies a volume of 0.1 cubic metre, and exerts a force due to gravity of 1 Newton. It also takes 1 Calorie to raise it by 1 degree Celsius (though calories aren't actually SI)

There's very good reason that physics is done in metric: Because it makes sense that way.

True, but empirical is Armageddon proof. When working in a pre-electric era, approximation will be the only type of measuring. There won't be a standard.

Empirical was originally based on approximations, not science, unlike SI. This is why it doesn't inter-relate well, but telling someone you need about 50 feet of rope is way easier to measure out than say 16.5 meters, when you have nothing to measure with.

I am an engineer, so I know how useful and limited different measuring schemes are. Saying empirical is retarded/useless, like the OP, is just wrong.

HOLY FUCKING READING COMPREHENSION, BATMAN!

True, but empirical is Armageddon proof.

I was talking about the past, or future apocalyptic situation, or a third world county.

Celsius and Fahrenheit? Jokes. I prefer Kelvin.

Still think we should use the Kelvin system for temperature.

The date makes sense. We write it like we normally say it and read it.

/r/funny is for.. things that are funny. This.. this isn't in the least bit humorous. Try again.
