That's UV ink, Under regular light it would be invisible.

Woah, that exists? Does it work well?

[–]Valintiin 13 points14 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It fades about 10x faster than normal ink.

[–]FeierInMeinHose 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

So how long does it last before it fades beyond recognition? 5 years? 10 years?

[–]IHateNicolasCage 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think I heard it is noticeably screwed up often in 2 or 3, not sure though on how long until it is totally beyond recognition

[–]Valintiin 0 points1 point ago

Beyond recognition? It'd be closer to 10 than 5. A black-light ink tattoo, though, will look like a regular tattoo looks in about 15-20 years in just a couple years. It's definitely a commitment - because they require very frequent touch-ups.

I can picture this guy in around 10 years. He hears a noise in the hallway and gets concerned about his child. He gets up to check on them and make sure they're okay. His child, tucked safely in his bed, hears the same noise and peeks out of his bedroom door to check for monsters. Here comes daddy pumping out nightmare fuel for junior.

It's only visible under UV lights. This is one of the benefits that many people see in them, since it allows people who couldn't normally get tattoos on a visible part of the body (because of work or just personal preference) to get a tattoo.

[–]InanimatePhoenix 3 points4 points ago

Maybe if he grows weed in the hallway?

[–]samtheredditman 1 point2 points ago

If he has a UV ink tattoo, there are probably some UV lights around.

I LOVE tattoos, but I still agree that that is an ugly one. I don't get the appeal of that aesthetic at all. Though I agree with the top comment--obviously well done.

EDIT: there seems to be a lot of people equating one person hating this tattoo with all of reddit hating all tattoos. How does that work? That is OBVIOUSLY a very polarizing choice for a tattoo. If someone doesn't like it, why does that make them a tattoo-hater that speaks on behalf of all of reddit?

[–]DarthDonut 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I like this particular tattoo, but in most threads in which someone is even considering it, they get buried in a slew of 'GOOD LUCK GETTING A JOB HURR' and 'WHY WOULD YOU DERP THAT TO YOURSELF?' The stigma of tattoos should be gone by now.

[–]menomenaa 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I get that. I think it's funny, though, that the knee-jerk response is to defend every tattoo to the point where there isn't good criticism of tattoos in a lot of threads. Just "for tattoos" or "against tattoos" waging a battle.

I say I dislike one tattoo and instead of hearing reasons why that tattoo is interesting, I get tons of comments saying "OMG it's 2012, it's common now, or it's my body not yours, or I think tattoos are awesome," none of which have to do with the original tattoo at hand! I guess I'm venting.

[–]DarthDonut -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Alright, well I think that this particular tattoo is interesting artistically. I do not really think the same of the name DRAKE tattooed on your forehead, but each to his own.

I read Internet Thigh Five

[–]Zenephis 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

From Urban Dictionary. TIL

Much like the commonly used "high five," which involves two hands coming together in joyful unison, the "thigh five" consists of two pairs of thighs, be they flabby or stick thin, shaggy of silky smooth, smacking firmly together in a moment of celebration. Melissa seemed a bit disturbed when Brandon started attempting to smack his thigh against hers, but he later explained that it was merely a thigh five.

What's up with all this hate for tattoos anyway? I'm not even tattooed and still I find this to be artful and really nice looking.

[–]DarthDonut 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Granted, I've seen a lot of stupid tattoos, but it's like everything else, there's a right way and a wrong way. Maybe people get hung up on the bad ones.

[–]Mummra 0 points1 point ago

There's a lot of hate for tattoos, anyone who doesn't have an engineering/comp sci degree and modern art. You get used to it after a while.

Which, let's be honest, is possibly one of the lamest tattoos you could get. I mean, I'm all for representing things you love. Game tattoos are cool, but if you're going to get one tattoo in your whole life, please don't make it from Legend of Zelda.

[–][deleted] 59 points60 points ago

Shit, gotta vent. Why isn't it being well done good enough? How come everything a lady does has to be sexually appealing? Why can't a lady do something that's just cool or just funny without people hating on her for not trying to be sexy at the same time? That's messed up.

[–]aggibridges 39 points40 points ago

I don't think he means the beautiful woman wearing the tattoo, I think he means the tattoo is not pleasant aesthetically. At least, that's what I think.

I understand where you're coming from now, but I'm baffled as to why you feel that way. That tattoo's purpose was to look good. Tattoos are decorative, after all. So what's wrong with judging it based on it's intention? I mean, if a guy were to have the same tattoo, we would judge it based on the same standards.

[–]Old_Greggg 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

What else is there to judge a tattoo on? It's personality?

[–]FuckingHateYouAll 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I don't think there would be so many comments with people saying they would be less tempted to tap that doggy style if this were indeed a guy.

[–]menomenaa 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think you're wrong. When guys get ugly tattoos, other people say they're ugly.

He is saying that's an ugly tattoo. He phrased it as unattractive, and you're equating the "attractive" wording to be associated with her gender. Pretend it's not a girl. Still an ugly tattoo. I think Ictinike would agree.

[–]FuckingHateYouAll 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I get it now. How I was reading it what that the tattoo was great, but it made her less sexy. That bothered me for the reason I vented about.

[–]WhatTheFlux1 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm with you. "FuckingHateYouAll" seems like one of the overly self-righteous feminists. Sometimes not everything is discriminatory. The fact that the girl got an ugly tattoo permanently printed on her back is her fault. If it were just an ugly sweater or something similar I'd be all for defending her.

[–]aggibridges -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Clearly you've never heard girls critique guys.

"Ew, what's with the Chinese tattoo? Can you say trashy? I wouldn't let that guy buy me a drink, never mind kiss him."

Happens aaaall the time.

[–]Reticulon -2 points-1 points ago

I find it sexually appealing :P It shows creativity, intelligence, and the tattoo and girl are just plain hot to begin with.

[–]witty_account_name 5 points6 points ago

Ah reddit, being judgmental of tattoos, as always. Personally, I really like it. I think that it takes a lot of dedication to have an artistic message such as this permanently inked into your body. There are some replies about how she will regret it in the future, but I don't think that she will. The tattoo suggests that her skin is a corset. Corsets were a beauty statement in the past, but they were often uncomfortable and hurt the women wearing them. My interpretation of this piece is that the she thinks of the beauty of the skin as detrimental to the wearer and we need to expose the reality below.

[–]nightMancometh 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

"You'll regret it when you're older!" is such a tired argument against so many tattoos. Maybe if it was an ex's name on her knuckles, or something similar, but this?

Each to their own I suppose - that's the charm I find in tattoos. I'm personally very interested in the stories people have behind their old tattoos. As the art has developed, many peices are using the sculpture of the body to enhance the image and make it read better. The techniques and inks have gotten a lot better in keeping the image tidy over time, too.

Maybe a little inspiration from that. The hip area looks similar. The rest just looks generally inspired by his style, not one particular piece of work.

Beautifully done. Do you know who the artist is? Love it when tattoo artists use the color of the skin as an element in the design.

[–]hemingwayszombycorps 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Well for the tattoo haters out there, the reasons(at least to me) this peice is interesting is one, its definite bio mech geiger style, number two, this style is EXTREMELY hard to do, so the artist seems to have his shit down pat(there are only 3 ppl i know of in NC that can do biomech justice), not to mention the lines are clean as hell, imagine drawing perfect shapes on an imperfect surface, as for the meaning you would have to ask the young lady who got this, but on artistic merits alone this is a win in my books....
