haha, seriously, this bot is kind of a dick. Imagine if you had one following you around in real life.

Robot voice: You told that joke 3 months ago. Do not act witty.

I know a lot of people that I would be much less inclined to punch in the face if they had a SimilarJoke bot follow them around.

I'm interested in your username. Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points ago

The username itself is a parody of r/atheism. I am opposed to the active "push" a lot of r/atheists are using to try to indoctrinate happily theistic people into denouncing their religion. This is only because the idea is completely counter-intuitive to the tenets which atheism arose from: the scientific method and the pursuit of truth through reason. To me, atheism is a realization every theist may eventually come to if they truly and objectively analyze the facts.

About me? I'm an electrical engineering student, a bit of a closet ent, and I loooooove bad action movies like "Hobo With a Shotgun" and "Robocop". I like vidja games, mostly RPG's. I used to play a LOT of online FPS games but then I tried paintball, which ruined FPS games for me. Now I just play a lot of paintball.

Thank you for your reply; an answer worth reading. How costly is paintball? I've always wanted to try it, but it's been on the back burner. I too play a lot of online FPS, but I also love my couch and my cat that sits next to me as I play. I'm guessing cats and couches aren't allowed in paintball?

Yeah, no kitties or couches :P. If you DO decide to try paintball, it involves a lot of shopping around. A good place will let you play for a few hours for about $50. Most of the paintball arenas will shill you like crazy. If you're in the Calgary area I highly recommend "Bragg Creek Paintball". If you get a little more serious, you can spend $200 and get your own gun kit from a site like www.paintballgear.ca (really good for Canadian orders, not sure where you hail from). Once you own a gun, paintballs become a LOT cheaper!!! I would advise against buying paintballs from anywhere but the course, because they'll charge you to bring them.

Another thing, don't do indoor paintball. If you're anything like me, you'll love tromping through the forest, hiding behind trees and car hoods, it's a lot more like playing a good FPS game, because there's a lot more room to move around.

The thing that really ruined FPS for me was the realism that paintball provides. You duck behind obstacles, and you feel bullets whizzing over your head. You run like you've never run before, and you don't notice how much exercise you're getting because of all of the fun you are having. You can do all kinds of crazy tactical and flanking techniques, support your friends, and these things actually come into play in paintball, where in an FPS it's usually an 'every man for himself' type thing unless everybody's wearing a headset. I think that there's something about running through the forest with a replica M16 that gets me a little giddy too.

Also, make sure you avoid the dicks with fully automatic paintball guns. There are players who will drop $5000 on a sweet gun which is basically EZmode against your standard semi-automatic paintball gun. They fire at something ridiculous like 30 rounds per second, and basically make you duck behind obstacles and fire blindly in their general direction. Avoid these pricks at all cost, they will ruin your experience.

TL;DR, don't go spending money on gear until you go once, if you'll love it then one trip should be enough to get you hooked in and looking at guns n stuff.

wow. this response was unexpected. of all the things you couldve responded to (atheism in general, the "push", indoctrination, etc.), you chose paintball. you either just don't give a fuck, or you have an iron will (i was about to start religious debate). kudos to you for not starting a shitstorm :D

I appreciated the breakdown, and my curiosity to find out where their username came from was satiated. No need to challenge his/her ideals, particularly if I'm inclined to agree. sunglasses

So since I've given the full exposition, can you tell me a little bit about yourself?

[–]MiniMoog 1 point2 points ago

Sure, but first of all - thanks a lot for the information about paint balling. I just sent out an email to some friends, and I think we might give it a go this weekend. I'm in Washington state, but I'm almost positive there are some great outdoor courses, and since our wilderness here is amazing - It should be a good bit of fun.

I've always considered myself more of an Agnostic, but honestly I don't really give it much thought. I used to hold the belief that you can believe in anything you'd like, so long as it benefits you as a human being and brings you peace, but then I came to the realization that a lot of larger organized religion bring so much bloodshed and tyranny to the world, that to see someone openly devote themselves these groups is a bit unsettling to me these days. Having said that, I stay away from /r/atheism for reasons I'm sure I don't have to explain to you.

I work in tech support, but I'm studying to get my A+, N+ and security certifications. A+ should be relatively easy, as I've already passed a few practice tests, but the networking should be a good learning experience. I love the outdoors, the mountains, the oceans and take road trips up to BC and around Washington regularly. As a side job, I also produce music for commercials and films. I stumbled across this gig, and it's been a lot of fun - and a pretty great way to make some extra money.

Tomorrow I'm playing round 3 in a Call of Duty tournament, and probably going to line up some paintball for Sunday. The cure is my favorite band of all time, and I'm a huge fan of mexican food and strawberry cheesecake.

Hehe, Radiohead's my favorite band over here, and I think my favorite food right now is sushi. That's awesome that you come up to BC a lot, that place is paradise.

I would have to agree with you that I'm pretty much an agnostic, but I lean towards atheism because of how weak I believe the evidence FOR theism is. I'm always up for a religious discussion though, I have met some very happy and christlike Christians lately who listen to and are capable of reason, and they have a very fascinating take on things.

It's kind of incidental; I'm working at a heavily IT based job for my internship right now, and my main focus has been networking and network theory. None of the big infrastructure VLAN'ning stuff, more just basic software networking theory. I've done a lot of different set ups and tons of network testing, so if you ever get stuck on an N+ question you can't find an answer to, hit me up! I'm kind of bored over here and I'm always willing to help out!

I hope paintballing goes well for you!! I'm stoked that I managed to get another gamer on to it! I personally was never able to get into a sport until I found paintball. It really helped me get the exercise that a desk dweller like me solely needs.
