The first picture could easily be real.

However, I'm afraid that the rest of them are false.

Edit* Since I'm getting so many replies about the video I thought I'd link this one too. US scientist did a head transplant on two chimps Capuchins.

am i the only one that thinks this would be a nice concept for a horror/thriller movie? crazy russian scientist kidnapping people to test his new machine on, keeps failing, people die, then once cia/police/authorities finally find the dude try to bring him into justice one of his experiments becomes a success... sequel: some underground rebellious organization successfully replicates the compensated machine and try to make it more efficient/faster process; something involving immortal people/army that tries to take down some international force... just an idea...

Just make sure you watch the Fiji mermaid episode.

[–]The_Dinosaur 13 points14 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I watched that when I was five, and I had nightmares for YEARS.

I don't even remember what happened in the episode, I just remember seeing it sliding down hallways and going apeshit. I still am nervous being by myself in some places, and only got over my fear of public restrooms recently. ಠ_ಠ

Man, that really fucked me up. The worst part is that my family liked to torment me about it because I was so terrified.

[–]Lookmanospaces 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I watched it when I was 23, and it gave me nightmares for MONTHS (still scary as hell, just not as much if I'd been 5 at the time of broadcast).

[–]The_Dinosaur 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Well that settles it, I'm not going to revisit it for sure to laugh at how terrified I was at something stupid.

I'm 21 now btw, for reference.

[–]Lookmanospaces 5 points6 points ago

I saw about four seconds of this episode in an advert for the x-files when I was 5. It was in amongst a bunch of random shots from the series, but god damn, those four seconds were enough to fill my head with terrifying nightmares.

Somehow Russians have the most awesome experiments, the ones you'd think of when you were a kid.

Head transplants, domesticating foxes, Mecha Lassie, making ape-human hybrids, that kind of shit. Damn.

[–]quantumcoffeemug 19 points20 points ago

Apparently, though mad-scientist-level creepy, Brukhonenko's experiments with dogs were ground-breaking research into heart-lung machines. They were mostly seen as a curiosity in Europe, so his research has been mostly forgotten.

[–]iggdawg 44 points45 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

upvoting for relevance. but the video downvoted my soul. EDIT: After watching the video, I did my due diligence in Wikipedia surfing. It seems cruel at first glance, but this kind of experiment is what was paving the way to open heart surgery. From an article on Brukhonenko: "After graduation from the Medical Faculty of the University of Moscow in 1914, Brukhonenko was assigned to the active army as a junior doctor to an infantry regimen. During World War I, having witnessed many cases of traumatic shock and combat injuries of the lungs, heart, and major vessels, he thought of ways for temporal extracorporeal circulation to support life while injuries are repaired. In Autumn 1917, Brukhonenko returned to Moscow and worked for the Sanitary Council of Sokolniky’s region of Moscow." Helps put it in perspective.

[–]imeuru 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Every living thing is here for some reason or another, some are here to cause suffering, some are here to suffer, Some of us are here to do great things and others, to just learn from them. It all makes for a great big chain of events. One person who causes suffering to another could inspire someone to change something which could in turn help a great many people out of their suffering. Its just the way the world turns. Don't let this down vote your soul.

Though terrible what they did to the animals, they achieved amazing things.

[–]SirMango 26 points27 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm assuming this is fake, there's no way the dog would be able to move its head up and down like that with its neck muscles severed.

[–]Jackpot777 53 points54 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Alright, but dogs CAN look up...

[–]N0V0w3ls 35 points36 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It's generally accepted that the video itself is fake due to this reason and that you can't see where the dog's head is attached to the apparatus. Experiments were performed, though, and while it's unclear how far these ones got, this doctor apparently made some very relevant advancements to modern medicine.

[–]Audioworm 8 points9 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

They are well documented, verified experiments involving the attaching of dogs heads onto the back of other dogs, and connecting the blood vessels in such a way that the dog's head remained 'alive.'

I can't remember if they did similar things with monkeys but Russian surgeons did some amazing, screwed up things

I wouldnt be surprised if the suit was real too, but they spliced two things (the dog head machine and the full body robot suit) to make it look like they were together.

[–]Black_Apalachi 2 points3 points ago

[–]MRIson 1 point2 points ago

This isn't really anything crazy. They're just changing the blood supply to the brain. We do this routinely now in surgery.

If we REALLY wanted to, we could probably transplant a head and spinal cord from one person to another with some motor function with the improvements in medical technology. Really, all the body is a metabolic processing unit and vehicle to move the brain around.

why is it always the russians that creep me out. seriously, they always come up with the creepiest shit known to man. at least in the 19th/20th century. i wonder if experiments like this are still going on in russia, but just not out in the open, since they might be government-initiated/funded(sp?)

I randomly found these at my local comic store about 4 or 5 years ago. All three of them, and I was just amazed. I try to get everyone to read them.

EDIT: According to the wikipedia, someone has movie rights. Hopefully its done well. I might actually go to a movie theatre and see this.

[–]grendel-khan 13 points14 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

According to the wikipedia, someone has movie rights.

Hollywood already adapted it; it was called G-Force.

[–]MadMageMC 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

If that's true, and I have no reason to think it isn't, the disparity between the three linked images above and what I remember from having been forced to sit through G-Force is really fucking depressing.

[–]grendel-khan 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I am so very sorry you had to see that. I saw the trailers, and joked that if Hollywood were to adapt We3 with the same corpse-mining respect and fidelity they showed I, Robot, the result would be G-Force. I have not, in fact, seen G-Force, and it is not an adaptation of We3 in any sense but a spiritual one.

Hm. A story told from animals' perspective, where they're not humans in fluffy suits but really have different motivational structures and mental models of the world? Let's keep the 'secret government force' bit, replace the tortured animals with farting guinea pigs, make one of them 'ethnic', and never contemplate the morality of using animals in war.

It's like a vast, Rube Goldbergian factory, where you put a quirky, delicious, individual meal in one end and get faintly shit-flavored paste out the other. (Yes, I'm still bitter about I, Robot.)

Don Murphy has a message board on his website that was extremely active leading up to the first Transformers movie. I was a member for many years and learned that he is a great lover of comics. Unfortunately he was not incredibly involved in the actual production of the TF movies due to the influence of others. I had high hopes for We3, but it seems like the studio funding never materialized, maybe someday.

The first two pictures are the only authentic ones. This was part of an experiment to test how long they could sustain life in the dog after they removed its head.

The later "cyborg" pictures were added in as part of a hoax.

Simply Google "Russian Dog Experiments." Only if you hate dogs though. Becuase its fucked up.

Though how do you add nutrition and water back into the blood stream to keep this head alive? Maybe this is like a today only experiment.

"sovmeschenniy" (Image 3) is like... put together, combined

Image 5 the word in context is less "defensive" and more like "protective"

Even though this is a repost, this story is partially true. The Russians did many experiments on dogs seeing if they could live without a body. They were right.

I think you've got effect and cause mixed up there recklessmind.

The mars attacks stuff was a deliberate throwback to that kind of 1940s pulp sci-fi, which is what this viral thing is clearly aiming for.

Its full name is ASZL (Avtomat Sokhranenya Zhizni im. V. R. Lebedeva - V.R. Lebedev's Life Supporting Machine LLSM). It's an experiment in supporting hurt (paralyzed, war-injured etc.) organisms with artificial means. The robot part of the story is someone's graphical creativity.

I saw a similar thing on Craked. Com. It was an actual video of a dog whos head was removed and kept alive by machines. It would breathe blink and react. At one point they give it a treat which just comes out of the other end. It was a Russian science experiment. I never watched the video as the description was horrible enough. I think you can find it on Youtube.
