I don't like the implication that all atheists just want to go around having lots of meaningless sex with promiscuous people. Don't get me wrong, I personally love the idea, but not all atheists would.

People should be allowed to place what value on sex, virginity, etc. that they want. If they decide that they want to only have sex with one person / very few people / nobody ever, then they should be allowed to make this (informed) choice.

Shaming people who place what you would feel is too much value on number of sexual partners is just as bad as slut shaming.

But yes I appreciate that they want to make sure it's not taken too seriously, I just wish it had been worded a bit differently so that it didn't seem to be implying that all atheists just want to fuck.

I completely agree. I know that being an atheist means nothing more than a lack of belief in a god, but I know that many people here pride themselves on being more rational and less biased.

it would be nice to think that escaping the church would mean escaping its misogynist culture, unfortunately sexism is everywhere, atheist or not.

If I may answer just for me - yeah, sure, you could replace it. Switch the genders.

But people almost never do.

It sucks, because it means that this author - and all his many reposters and upvoters - don't really see me being there in that heaven.

...There's also a bonus sub-joke of "women don't have the capacity for reason, so they wouldn't get into that comic's heaven anyway! Ha ha ha!"

The point I was making, though, is that it isn't necessarily mysogynistic in this case, because the exact same situation could occur with two females. It just does seem to be mysogynistic.

RE: misogyny: I think there are definite misogynistic overtones. Sluts is a word that's overwhelmingly used for women. And being able to flip the genders doesn't make it not sexist.

I think it would be a personal heaven. That you could never be bored of. If you wanted to be reincarnated, you could, if you wanted to see how history turns out, you could, and if you wanted some sadness in your life, you could.

I have always said my ideal afterlife would be that as soon as I died, I would know everything. I would understand every language, know every event that has happened in history, etc.

This is not slut shaming. Slut shaming is by definition attacking women for being involved in a large amount of sexual activity. All this comic strip does is use the word slut. Slut is an androgynous term and could easily apply to both genders. Either way, it isn't used in a shaming manner and could be interpreted as praising those who meet the definition of slut...as they are in heaven.

Need to define reason. It is debatable depending on who you ask. Obviously I favor scientifically derived facts/repeatable-scenarios, but others favor folk tales. Getting people to agree on the definition of reason is a big hurdle in general.
