"Generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission.

What I don't get is why all those other anthropomorphic animal species are ok, but anthropomorphic pandas are crossing the line.

[–]Erotomania085 0 points1 point ago

Because pandas are the D-students of the animal kingdom.

Can you explain to me what WoW and a panda have in common?

Blizzard artist Samwise Didier is a fan of pandas and puts a few panda related easter eggs in their games. Gradually, these developed into the Pandaren race of the Warcraft universe, which will be playable in the next WoW expansion.

You forget to mention that by "gradually" you mean they were first seen during the Warcraft series, not the World of Warcraft series. Which makes them an entity that has long belonged in the Warcraft universe and not something that came out of the blue.

I'm hardly going to play Mist of Pandaria, but the facts are not as "shuddering" as some might call it. It isn't Kung Fu Panda, even though an entire voice-over for the Pandaren race by Jack Black would make me play it 100%.

They "existed", but mostly as off-reference, slightly jokey way. Hell, Illidan had pandas on his blades in W3. They only really made it through the additional, slightly weird campaign Founding of Durotar, which had almost nothing to do in its gameplay with WC3 and set the stage for World of Warcraft (get quests from a hub, head into explorable area, kill monsters, obtain loot, turn in, level up, get skills etc.)

To me, this really looks like Pandaria was crowbarred into existence. I know the analogy is silly, but even Hitler was democratically elected (+1 Godwin point for me I guess !).

In fairness, Warcraft 3 had a leveling system in the campaign with the hero units as well. It wasn't just that mini-campaign

Neither of these individual components are in effect a strong departure from the standard RTS system. The presence of all of them and the absence of staples such as base building and resource management however strongly indicates a paradigm shift.

Well I can't argue with that, touché sir

Yeah, the Pandaren appearance in Warcraft was as follows

An easter egg character in a hidden dungeon in a bonus downloadable (optional) campaign for an expansion pack for Warcraft 3.

If you didn't pick up the character, you won't miss anything in the plot of the game. The character is of literally no consequence, just a gimmicky hero easter egg.

I don't even have a problem with playable Pandaren, it's when they start telling me they have created an entire continent based off a gimmick that I worry.

I said warcraft universe, I thought it was clear that it included Warcraft 3 (they weren't in any earlier games though)

It goes back to the good ol' days of Warcraft 3 and The Frozen Throne. WoW is acutally correct naming the new expansion Pandaria, which is the actual name from which the Pandarian Empire resides. Back when BC was going to be released there was a mass vote on which races should be included, Draenei and Blood Elfs won obviously. I find the expansion rather neat despite everyone saying "WTF PANDAS?!". The Pandarian race was a secretive and peaceful community, now to unleash all there furry rage upon everyone/thing.

I might try a trial once it comes out just too see what Blizzard has done to these sweet and peaceful Pandas.

Ah ok. I think I saw an ad for the new WoW expansion once a few weeks back, thought maybe it was just a weird April Fools Day joke that was really early. I don't play WoW anymore, so I haven't been caught up with its recent history, nor do I really care. However, this is quite...interesting. And hey, they can't make the game any worse, right?

It's true, they already made a complete REHASH of the game cough Cataclysm cough. That's about as low as they can go. I even humored myself by watching the last raid for the game, against the big molten dragon guy, and I have to say, that was the most boring fight I've ever seen.

Of course I played vanilla WoW and nothing will ever compare to those days, isn't that how it always is? At least Pandaria will bring a a fresh new environment and race to play with, thus why I'll humor myself by trying a trial.

For a game 7 years old, it's doing pretty fucking good for itself. That being said, I quit a while ago but will probably come back for Pandaria. Unless GW2 totally blows me away (I have a suspicion it wont.)

I quit playing wow months ago. Just got boring, was toying with maybe firing it up again at some point. Heard about pandas, that made my decision final. Never playing wow again.
