Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

[–]fgriglesnickerseven 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

phsshhh that chart must be some kind of negro conflagration, trying to discredit the great white race's excellent choices 2000-2008!

  • Average GOP guy

Now take a look at the chart for Alberta one of the largest producers, and then stop complaining

You have to hand it to the guy, not one single spelling or grammar error.

Reddit massacre avoided.

Where was it $1.78? I call shenanigans!

Different regions pay less. I am Chicago and we pay out the ying yang because we are so far from the processing plants and we're taxed at an insane rate to pay for our crappy highways (freeze/thaw cycle ruins roads).

[–]somabrandmayonaise 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, I guess you're right. I used to live in Texas in the 90s and I remember paying about 90 cents/gallon in the late 90s.

I hope most people realize that the President has nothing to do with the gas prices, and that the actual gas companies and the stock market do? We have to get off foreign oil, and that won't happen until it is dried up. Find a real, good reason to hate the current President, not false information that he has no control over.

The sad and frightening thing is, many people do base their votes entirely on such irrationalities.

[–]Huellio 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Because there are so many open and honest politicians out there to make rational decisions about voting for.

[–]thebigdonkey 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Exactly, because people buy into this crap along with all the useless rhetoric about things that won't change anyway even if they are elected (Roe v Wade). Somewhere along the lines, politicians have convinced people to focus their votes entirely on things that aren't even active political issues while screwing them completely on things that are. If we stopped rallying behind such things and started voting based on things that matter, the politicians will follow suit and things will start getting done again in government.

Hey there voter! Remember back on inauguration day (jan 2009)how gold was just over $800 per ounce? Now look at Gold Prices, Over $1720 Per ounce. Any you know how GOLD is one of the backbone commodities of our economy, WOW! Obama has more than doubled the price of gold in less than 4 years. Anyone but a Republican in 2012....

Thank you money... for being educated. As much as I disliked Bush I never blamed him for gas prices. Welcome to the free market republicans love so much.

Yeah. Damn you Obama for setting gas prices so high.

I can also remember the summer of 2008 when I was paying $4.25 a gallon. So what. Without a national energy policy, we deserve to get assfucked at the pump.

[–]jagggy 1 point2 points ago

im gonna vote based on GAS PRICES

[–]codysuds 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This is ridiculously false, I'm from a regular size town in KY and I've been driving since late 2005, the day I got my drivers license gas was 2.20 something a gallon, I've to this day NEVER seen it below that mark. I've only seen gas return to the high $2 range once since that year.

[–]wojosmith 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I am Chicago here and I have been driving since 1976. It cost about 43 cents a gallon. Of course cars got around 6-8 MPG then.

[–]codysuds 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

My post wasn't an open challenge to see who's been driving longer.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

This is true. Where I live in 2009 I recall gas costing $2.80ish/gallon. I remember because it was costing me $300/month to fill my car so I moved closer to everything.

Were you alive in 2008? If so, you town has shitty gas prices.

[–]Ghstfce 0 points1 point ago

I remember in June of 1998 before I left for boot camp, gas was $0.89 a gallon of regular.

Free market helps me? ... free market good. Free market hurts me? ... Obama bad.

[–]lkoussan 3 points4 points ago

In fact, George W. Bush's administration experienced a 179.6% spike in gasoline prices during two weeks of his presidency. A regular gallon of gas peaked at $4.11 on July 7, 2008, which was 14 cents higher than the most expensive week in Obama's first term... take that racist redneck! Hah ha

[–]original_locutus 3 points4 points ago

[–]wojosmith 0 points1 point ago

Gas is a commodity. The higher the demand the more oil co raise the price. Under Obama more oil field leases have been approved then under Bush. The reason the oil co have not started drilling is the reward is not worth the effort. Anwar, Alaska has about 8-12B possible gallons. It will take 6-10 years to set up drilling before we see the oil. Total money made to oil co about $10B+. The problem in the states is you have to process the oil. Even if doubled oil pumped we could not make gas any faster as we our at peak output. That is why we export more oil then we process. The oil we import is of a higher quality then ours so easier to process quicker. This will never change unless you build more processing plants at about $2B a piece and take 5 years each to build.

Democrats blamed Bush for the rising gas prices in the last election, and now Republicans think it's fair to retaliate in kind by using the same logic.

Little more than politicking on both sides.

To be fair, it is not right to completely pin gas prices on a president, but it would also be inaccurate to wholly disregard that a president has sway over gas prices. Strength of the american economy, strength of the US dollar, and reliance on foreign oil all effect gas prices, and the president has some say over the policies (ranging from economic to environmental) that influence each of those factors.

Odd. Today I was pumping gas and an older lady started up a conversation with me about the exact same thing. Along the lines of, "The gas prices are so high! Isn't it outrageous! Why just four years ago it was two dollars. This administration is to blame." Huh.

I call bullshit. I've never paid under $2 for gas. I remember it being lower when I was a kid, but since i started driving it hasn't been below $2 (I lived in California and Arizona)
