It's 15 sequels they already made Jaws 4 in 1987

He was asked once about the shit pile that was this movie. He replied, "I don't recall the film, but I remember the house it bought me. It was quite lovely."

[–]Awesomekip 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Fun Fact: Michael Caine was nominated for an Oscar that year. Having never won when previously nominated, he said fuck it and went and filmed that movie instead of going to the award ceremony. That was the year he won the Oscar for Hannah and Her Sisters.

I don't know what you're talking about. Jaws was one of those movies like The Matrix- had a lot of potential for sequels, the filmmakers decided to stop at one, right where they should have.

[–]Quazz 72 points73 points ago

I'm like the only person in the universe who doesn't dislike the Matrix sequels.

[–]adammcbomb 5 points6 points ago

I liked them too, but... It just became less heady in the sequels. I felt they could have taken it further. Perhaps they hadn't actually broken out of the Matrix. Perhaps they were just in another Matrix. Before the sequels came out I suspected that perhaps this was true. A Multi-Layered Matrix of worlds to encapsulate and control humans. Hence the name "Matrix". And explaining why Neo could eventually still function on a somewhat higher level even in the real world.

[–]Quazz 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I suspect they considered that but ultimately rejected because of its complexity.

It would make a great movie, but a lot of people wouldn't be able to keep up, kind of like what happened with Inception.

[–]Hyperluminal 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah. I want them to make a fourth movie, that starts with a black screen. A voice says 'Wake up, Neo' and the blackness fades to reveal Neo's p.o.v. as a concerned Morpheus looks down at him. That alone would satisfy me as a trailer.
Just tell me that Neo had been tricked by another layer of the Matrix. I'll go with that.

[–]Hagane17 9 points10 points ago

I'm with you man, I loved everything about each movie. Seriously, the war for Zion is the best freaking thing i've seen. Mechs? Oh god yes.

[–]tekkentool 2 points3 points ago

How does jaws have sequel potential? the whole thing neatly wraps itself up and leaves you satisfied.

Any sequels could possibly only ever be slight variations on the same idea without really adding anything.

It had no sequel possibility

According to the matrix 1999 was our peak. Fuck.

[–]shanem222 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Agent Smith saw it as the peak of human civilization because once modern technology and computers came about, it became their civilization instead, since they were doing all the work. Technologically, we continued to progress, as shown in the real world with hovercrafts and underground cities.

I have to believe there's context in that. No way is that a proper advertisement three years from now.

Perhaps in the next few years, with the change in distribution medium, movies happen more like episodes on television, but monthly and on-line. The production costs are so low that ironic advertisements are made that parody the bad visuals.

Then again, it's a hologram, maybe that technology is going to have its own limitations.

Or they could remake part 2. with actualized political and cultural references from the 1985-2015 period.

For example:

  • There could be Apple, Google and Facebook logos all over the place;
  • He could be terrified when he hears dubstep for the first time;
  • The 2015 version Marty's boss would be Chinese instead of Japanese.

And so on...

There are no rules about the numerical order of movies. I mean, the only thing stopping someone from writing Jaws 19 right now, which could consist of filling in the backstory of what happened between Jaws: The Revenge and Jaws 19 before launching into some SyFy channel storyline, is the copyright.

I have no idea how it works, but if someone wrote a halfway decent screnplay/spec, maybe Universal would buy it and film it. My guess is the nostalgic value alone would attract an audience, even if it was horrible.

Alternatively: Jaws 19 is the heart warming story of a monster shark breaking through the shackles of his creation. While the first 18 monster sharks were happy being cold blooded killers, Jaws-19 found himself as a kind soul in a killers body. Also features a sassy black sidekick crustacean and a token gay dolphin (voiced by the honeybadger guy.) The commercials will feature the moment where 19&co try to rescue the survivors of a cruise ship wreck, but only bring along a small sailboat, prompting a sidekick to say "We are going to need a bigger boat!"

To anyone in Quebec, Back to the future is currently airing on TVA! Marty arrived in 1950 15 minutes ago!

Have fun!

I believe it was like a 100 years ago that they thought we'd have flying cars in 1970.

People predict ahead of the curve, usually. Mostly because bullshit like wars slow us down.

Actually governments invest shitloads of money in war/space technologies and research, some of this technologies are then adapted and released to non military purposes.

[–]Azrael11 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

wars actually have been one of the leading proponents of innovation. The military develops new tech to combat different situations that a certain war requires. After the war ends, that technology gets adapted into the civilian world. Jets after WWII are a good example

For filmmakers guessing the future can be a tough job. A lot of times they want to show a radically different future, but often it needs to be tied to some modern day event. Back To The Future had to have a Marty McFly that was still alive. Now Zemeckis also wants to show a future that is radically different. That's kind of the fun of going to the future, right? So he makes the future he wants. He puts hoverboards in it and flying cars. Holographic movies. Cubs winning the world series. Jaws 19. And he picks the year. But dang, he can't go too far cause he still wants Marty to be maybe middle age. Holograms in 2015. Not that crazy. The Cubs? Well, Miami does have a baseball team now. And the hovercars and hoverboards? Well, that's kinda only one technology. One sort of anit-gravity invention and we're there. I like to see those things in movies that they thought would still be around. In 1989, Zemeckis thought, "Oh hey, fax machines are cool. I bet Marty will have like ten of these placed around his house."

Roomtemperature superconducters combined with magnets will create a hover effect.

That said, we wouldn't need boards, we could have a hoverbelt and simply fly.

Miami's baseball team and the Cubs are both NL though, so it's still impossible for them to play in the World Series without a switch.

We still have Spielberg doing films, but may not have maglev for awhile longer. I drew up plans in '85 for flying cars. In fifth grade. Come on, let's get to flying some cars around already. Geez.
