I'm beginning to want there to be a shitty_watercolour request subreddit. There are some of my pictures that I'd love to have "shittely" watercoloured.

/I can't wait to see the improvement over the next few months/years.

Did you visit The Blue Lagoon on Capri while you were there?

[–]kneedragatl 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yea, it was great. Fun going through that tiny hole in the cliff "ciao, get off this small boat and get in that tiny one, then lay down..... no, this is totally legit"

Went swimming too. Have you been?

[–]Gauntlet 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah, almost a decade ago now (I'm getting old). It was brilliant - our gondolier sang (really well) for us while he took us around.

[–]kneedragatl 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

We had a gondolier in Venice that refused to sing unless we gave him booze, that was amusing. I think I was there in '98 (Capri). I was back in Venice around 2002 or so again, this time for Carnival, that was interesting.

I've been lucky enough to tour around this area as well. The blue lagoon was AWESOME. I also made it to Positano. Such an amazing place.

Something pretty darn close does if that isn't an actual photo. My friend lost his bank card in an ATM just to the left for several hours.

Unfortunately I don't remember all the towns. I remember going to Positano and Ravello, but it was basically my family piled in a fiat cruising up the coast. So most likely if its in the area. Incredible experience, and from a busy American's perspective, the culture and the people of the area can't be beat.

[–]OxyCottonTail 0 points1 point ago

Woww, I remember standing right there 3 years ago. This picture is taken from a bridge

[–]Doxep 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Not exactly. It was taken from the main square in Sorrento, Piazza Tasso (Tasso Square). It's not a bridge because you can't walk directly under it, but you can take stairs (many, many stairs) to go in the street showed in the picture.

Duly noted.

[–]DropAdigit 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Unfortunately, no. I was there 6 years ago. What I can say is go over your bike very carefully before you sign the rental agreement; I say this because we rented a small fiat while there; the first one didn't have working windows; the second had a leaky tire, no spare and no jack. The company tried to charge us for the wheel, after we got stranded for half a day in a small, but charming, remote village. Gaaaah!

[–]FountainsOfFluids 0 points1 point ago

It does. It's beautiful, but wrong. You can't look into the sun and get saturation like that.

[–]Botunda -2 points-1 points ago

Yes, it is a well done HDR and kudos to OP, but, hdr is still hdr. I think that it detracts from... oh who the fuck am I kidding! Nice shot man!

Sorento really is a beautiful city, I liked it a lot better than Capri

[–]IHaveToBeThatGuy 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I loved Capri. The water, the mountain, the lemons, the neat town, the boats. I didn't get to see the Blue Grotto, but I got to take a boat trip around the island and see some of the other grottos and it was so breathtaking

[–]shaggy1010 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I guess the island was really cool, it was just a little too upscale you know? It was all like check it out we have purses that cost more than your car! But the island itself was beautiful

[–]IHaveToBeThatGuy 0 points1 point ago

[–]thetroubleis 1 point2 points ago

[–]Sir_Dimos 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Lived all over the Napoletano coastline for a little over a year and Sorrento (along with the rest of the Amalfi coast) was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.

I really hope it lasts like that. From what the locals told me, Castellammare di Stabia (a town about 15km up the coast from Sorrento) was very much like Sorrento back in the 1950s, but if you visit it today the beach is covered in trash and what hotels were there, are now abandoned.

Also - Napoli itself can be a scary place when you're just visiting, but I think you'll be hard-pressed to find a city in Italy with more saturated culture and history than Napoli. It's worth visiting if you have a bit of street smarts about you.

I was there a few years ago. It was absolutely the most beautiful city I've ever visited. If you ever have the chance to go, do not hesitate. On a clear day you're able to see across the bay to Pompii; Mt. Vesuvius lies in the background. Simply breathtaking.

We went there for our honeymoon. We couldn't afford to go and had booked 2 nights in a hotel in Chester, but my uncle suprised us with a week in Sorrento :) My wife's favourite part? The good looking waiters in the bar in the centre.

I hope to return there someday, I went there when I was 17 part of my high school graduation gift. I had fun the day we were there but I know I'd appreciate it more now.

I walked all the way down there to get to our hotel by the water on our EF tour. It's so cool that I can say that.

This is the first time during my life on the web where someone posted a picture to a beautiful location (thats not domestic) and I've actually been there before. Sorrento would definitely be on my list of places to go to again.

If you're going to photoshop a sunset in then please be sure that the shadows make even a little sense. Everything should be casting a shadow back at the camera. The town looks like it was shot in the early afternoon.

[–]indyphil 0 points1 point ago

just need to make something clear about these HDR comments. My first thought when looking at this photo was not "HDR" but that its a composite made from one image on an ordinary cloudy day and another of a sunset dropped in the background.

Further proof comes from google maps when you realize that this was shot facing almost Due North in Italy. The Sun is never in that location (North) when in the northern Hemisphere. It "looks" HDR to the untrained eye because of the sky/buildings share similar tonal range, but its merely a composite. In sunlight like that there should be shadows etc...

its nice, but I didnt find it to be convincing.

I too have been there.... and like you, was drunk most of the time. But I did get to enjoy the beauty during the day =)

Ahhhh, Sorrento. this is where, whilst vising on vacation with my friends, we played "IRL counter strike" in the wet, marble, pool side bathroom. I was sliding across the floor throwing a "flash bang" and slipped to my doom. Got a giant gash across my forehead that needed 6 stitches and spent the night in an Italian hospital. Freak my parents out, but I think due to the bad ass scar and stitches, I got laid on a Grecian pleasure cruise a week later. oh Sorrento, thanks!

Wait... why didn't just just build a road over the hill...

Although nice to look at, this all seems highly impractical and inefficient.

[–]Doxep 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This comment doesn't make sense. That road doesn't connect the two pieces of land shown in the picture. It just brings to the harbor.

Plus, that road was built about a thousand years ago or more.

The two pieces of land shown in the picture are easily connected, via the place the picture was taken from.

[–]HittingSmoke -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

What? Where did you get any idea I was talking about connecting the two hills?

[–]Doxep 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm sorry, I must have misunderstood your comment. What were you talking about? Why building a road over the hill?

[–]HittingSmoke -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Why didn't they just smooth out the rock face and build the road over the hill instead of cutting a path through it. That's a lot of rock to move.

[–]Doxep 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That road has to go down, it brings to the harbor....

Why did this aesthetic sense not make it over the Atlantic when the Italians came to this country? Now all we have are tacky white brick guido mansions with bathtub madonnas littering Johnston, RI.
