                                      Not really. Gifs can have whatever quality you want.

                                      Here's a perfectly high quality gif of Duke Nukem Forever.

                                      It's mostly the fault of how the gifs are created. There's no good reason they can't look like a crisp clear animated image.

                                                              People say 'why should they bother turning down the T&A when girls don't read comics anyway'. But people get hooked on comics young, and young girls aren't always comfortable seeing ass-jutting titmonsters in their media of choice.

                                                              X-Men Evolution attracted a lot of girls in my school to superheroes, way back when. It was a very female-friendly show without alienating guys. Teen Titans, too, and The Incredibles. But stepping into the comics shop I was treated like some sort of feminine infiltrator. Granted, the guy who ran it was kind of an elitist dick, which seems stupid. Is it good business practice to make the uninitiated feel like they're not welcome?

                                                              Anyway, I kind of choked on my own spit when I saw comic version of Starfire. It wasn't even like I hated the sight of sexy women, I just... I already knew where to find naked ladies on the internet if I felt like looking at them. At some point I bought one of those comics where the guy was tracing porn actresses and felt a little molested. I gave Witchblade a try too because of the TV show, and that was a no go. Eventually I just gave up on anything that wasn't X-Men and started reading whatever manga Barnes & Noble sold.

                                                              I started trying to learn to draw then, because I figured the only way I'd read a superhero comic with non-porny females was if I drew it myself. That was a sad exercise, my art skills are not up to the challenge, to say nothing of my writing.

                                                              Anyway, if anybody gets down to this post, could we build a list of good comics not infected with the T&A virus? Perry Moore's Hero had pretty good female characters, though it's not a comic yet (is it?). Y the last man didn't have any superheroes in it--unless sperm is a superpower--but it was very good. The only other comic I've read recently is P.L.A.I.N. Janes.

                                                              Sadly women are e black sheep of the comic industry still. I love love lovelovelove comics, but I haven't found one that doesn't have porn star females in it. Have you tried webcomics? there are a ton of quality webcomics out there, and they don't have to hold to the archaic standard published comics have. Also, many are drawn much better, and have better storyline.

                                                              You should read some European comic books, they tend to be lot more down to earth.

                                                              For some good Nordic themed fantasy (by a Belgian-Polish duo), check out Thorgal which has interesting normal humans (and other creatures) of both sexes.

                                                              I read a couple, Gunnerkrigg Court is my favorite. Teahouse is getting really good too. I need to catch up on The Meek. I used to read Penny and Aggie but it got really weird and now everyone's a lesbian I guess?

                                                              Have you read Runaways? I have the big fat hardbacks, and I don't remember much unnecessary sideboob there. When I left off there were lesbians and a mostly female cast and everything was really cool even though my favorite got dead.

                                                                Do kids read comics anymore? I've been following the industry for the past few years, and I'm pretty sure the top selling titles are the nerdy, legacy, plain superhero ones and Walking Dead. And if kids are buying comics, they definitely aren't buying them in the quantity they did in the 60's and 70's.

                                                                I agree that the sexism should be toned down, but that argument probably doesn't hold much water. It should be toned down just because it's degrading; regardless of the kids.

                                                                And like I said, I could be wrong and kids could be buying a ton of comics every week, but I'm pretty sure they aren't. Video games took their place.

                                                                And to answer the question about comics featuring cool women, Queen and Country is supposed to be good. I haven't read it, but it's Greg Rucka, so it's good.

                                                                EDIT: Also Promethea, although I haven't read it either. And Tulip was good in Preacher, and Sandman had a bunch of good female characters, often as protagonists.

                                                                You could check out the manga called Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. It's drawn by Hayao Miyazaki and it is a very cool story.

                                                                There is also an animated movie with the same name. The anime is basically the first chapter of the manga. The manga goes much further though and is well worth the read.

                                                                You're probably mostly out of luck in regards to superhero comics, but DC's vertigo label is pretty good at telling stories that arw not just nerdporn. Check out classics like Sandman, Death, Lucifer, or Paul Pope's stuff. Lots of other good indie stuff as well, Like everything made by craig thompson.
                                                                I worked several years in a comic book store, and there's definitely alternatives to spandex wearing plotholes and mass produced japanese trash.

                                                                  One thing that's always distracted me in a lot of modern comics is that a great deal of comic book artists seem to have no grasp of human anatomy whatsoever. I mean, I'm not a doctor and I know it's supposed to fiction, but some of the muscles and joints that they invent out of nowhere are rigoddamndiculous.

I mean, you've got the same guy arguing that it's a terrible response to the issue to say someone is gay or to say they're bringing up the issue in order to get laid dropping repeated lines like:

                                                                                                  Simply using the phrase "epic cleavage" means that that comment is the closest he's gotten to any in a situation involving another person.

                                                                                                  Yes, them saying you are doing it in order to get laid is a shitty argument, but calling someone a virgin or abhorrent to women as a means of discrediting their argument isn't what we call kosher, down at the docks.

                                                                                                  Also if I see one more person say something like "you're just arguing semantics" I'm going to fucking scream. Semantics are important things, people. They are what gets us from symbols to meaning. Christ.
