A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports).

"Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

Posting Rules

  • Posts must be directly gaming-related. Thus, "generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission; similarly, reaction GIFs are also not appropriate as submissions.

  • Following Reddiquette is encouraged

  • No "general" URL shorteners (bitly, tinyurl, etc). Single-site URL shorteners (such as youtu.be or fav.me) are allowed.

  • No game or product giveaway of any kind

  • NSFW submissions and comments must be labeled

  • Spoilers can be posted using the following formatting:
    [X Kills Y](/spoiler)
    Result: X Kills Y.

  • To mark a spoiler as relevant to a specific game/topic, use the alternate formatting:
    [Player 1 wins](/spoiler "Pong")
    Result:
    Player 1 wins

  • Report posts containing spoilers not using the above method

  • Don't post users' personal information.

Couldn't tell if this game was extremely hard or if I was just too young to understand its puzzles.

Is this subreddit running out of games to do a nostalgia circlejerk to? I got Glover when I was about 8 years old for Christmas. This game is broken. The controls are awful, the time trial mode didn't work (I have the legit cartridge and for some reason the controls were inverted whenever I started walking on the ball, but that didn't happen in story mode). The level design is atrocious due to its non-linearity (I never finished the game. I gave up playing during the carnival level because I didn't know where the hell to go.) The camera angles were down-right awful as well. I know that this was back when 3D platformers were in the experimental stage, but the camera was bad, even compared to the games in those days.

I fired it up again when I got older just to see if I just sucked at the game back then and was judging it poorly. Nope. Same consensus. Same result. Complete shit.

As a kid, LoZ OoT and Banjo Kazooie set the standard for N64 adventure RPGs. Glover just couldn't even compare. I seriously hated that game.

Didn't it also require a memory card in order to save? No on-cartridge save function was truly a game ruining phenomena.

Well I had a memory card plugged into my controller at all times so I don't know that. All I know is that the game was just BAD. I did see a tool-assisted speed-run and the final level looked pretty awesome, but what's the point if the events leading up to it are so mind-meltingly awful?

There was even a sequel planned that got cancelled. The alpha ROM was uncovered and gameplay footage was posted on Youtube. It turned out to be a painfully obvious Banjo-Kazooie rip-off. The first game already gave me some BK vibes, but the cancelled sequel looked like a BK ROM hack.

This game is easily on the list for one of the worst 3D platformers ever.

Glover was easily the worst platformer I played on N64, just ahead of Donkey Kong 64.

DK64 had its flaws. It was non-intuitive as fuck, you had to collect way too much shit, they didn't put much effort into character switching, at least 1/4 of the fucking textures were from both Banjo games, etc. ...but at least it had some redeeming moments.

I can't even begin to come up with a redeeming quality of Glover, beyond that it wasn't the -worst- N64 game. That'd be a tie between the two Titus N64 games Superman 64 and Hercules the Legendary Punch Everything.

The worst thing is that it seemed like Glover had potential. The ball-centric puzzles were a great idea and very unique as well. It's too bad that the rest of the game felt like it was vomited out of the programming language.

I always figured it was just a really early beta that got forced out into release. I could easily see potential, but... nothing at all seemed finished, a lot of things seemed like placeholders or just unfinished, unpolished, untested elements.

I definitely do see that. Things like the glass ball, the aforementioned time trial mode, and the awful design of some levels (the aforementioned carnival level) and the awesome setpieces of others (like the aforementioned final level) were clearly signs of a rushed game. It was like the Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 for 5th gen consoles. Semblances of an awesome game found in a clearly rushed POS.

I really love ranting about how bad this game is. Any mention of positive nostalgia for this game makes me remember all of the bad memories of playing it and I wonder if these people were playing the same game as me.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that some copies of the game didn't even have the intro cutscene. The cutscene that explains the story was literally not included in some of the cartridges. My copy was one of those. I wonder if that makes it a collector's item. Maybe I could sell it online.

...There was an intro cutscene? Man I've gotta look this up now, mine didn't have one either, just plopped you right into the game.

I had the exact same reaction when I found out. You can find the intro cutscene on Youtube. It shows how the gloves became alive. They belonged to a wizard that was doing a cauldron mixture, he got some of the mixture on him, he turned to stone, and the mixture got on his gloves as well. The gloves became alive, and one of them was a good glove, and the other an evil glove. Good glove: protagonist. Evil glove: antagonist and final boss. There you go.

Well shit. This is like back when Mortal Kombat: Sub-Zero came out. I bought it on N64, and... I really, really hated it. The story felt like a mess, the controls were awful, it lagged, etc. But my friends fucking loved it.

Sometime later I'm trying out the PS1 version, and I'm amazed to find that, not only are all of my complaints remedied, but it has fucking live action cutscenes that were absent from the N64 version. Made me paranoid at the time that any other games I played on n64 that came out elsewhere were also incomplete like that.

Thankfully, as far as I know, Sub-Zero's the only example like that where cutscenes were on one console's version but not the N64's.

I think OP is either wanting people to play it BECAUSE it's such a bad game or he is trolling. Not sure which.

This game sucked ass. I'm glad to have it as a memory though, whenever my sisters and I get together we usually bring up the good old days with the N64 and make fun of this game and Gex 64... Gex was at least playable, we didn't have a memory card though so neither games would save. A lot of people I knew owned this game though, it was one of the cheaper N64 games.
