When theists try illogically debating me, I resort to this. (i.imgur.com)

"theists illogically debating"
you can cut any single of these words and still be as valid.
[–]POOPFEAST420 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago
"Theists illogically" doesn't make any sense.
[–]Gemini4t 7 points8 points9 points 6 months ago
Exactly.
[–]scrambles57 5 points6 points7 points 6 months ago
When they won't take in what I say, I just start pulling the evidence card. Simple way to get them to shut up.
[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 6 months ago
I usually just show myself to be superior to their god by calling their god a "faggot cunt", and pointing how he is powerless to stop me from saying so.
Despite the fact humanity has only explored 1225th the distance to the nearest star these people still pretense not only to know the creator of the universe but also that creators motives?
Why would I logically debate someone who has no fucking clue about logic. I have found that while their logic circuits are broken, their shame circuits still work. Which is why I just go right for insults.
[–]scrambles57 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago
Insults show that you have no more argument to go to. Never resort to insults if you want to come off as logical. Be the mature one and keep providing them with information. Whether they're paying attention or not, you will be the bigger person.

RAmen,child of the FSM,RAmen.
[–]bigwhale 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
At first I didn't like FSM. But it really is an effective way of thinking about theistic claims.
[–]Nominalist 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Do theists who argue with you actually posit that God is visible?
[–]Elisthomp[S] 6 points7 points8 points 6 months ago
As far as I can remember, there have been two instances where a person argued that their god literally looks like an old man.
[–]AndersLund 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
Yeah, i saw The Matrix as well...
[–]Nominalist 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
Wow, thanks for following up on that. I'm dumbfounded.
[–]studmuffffffin 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Well I think in the bible it said man was made in God's image. So therefore God looks like a man.
[–]scrambles57 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
When we actually know that god was made in man's image.
[–]RationalUniversalist 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
OP I am a christian what if god really does have the appearance of the FSM then what?
[–]Elisthomp[S] 15 points16 points17 points 6 months ago
Didn't he make man in his image? Are you pasta?
[–]RationalUniversalist -6 points-5 points-4 points 6 months ago
Yeah but I believe in science so I have to disregard genesis and the parts of the bible that are anti-reason.
What do you mean am I pasta?
[–]Tattycakes 8 points9 points10 points 6 months ago
disregard genesis and the parts of the bible that are anti-reason
So, almost the entire thing then?
[–]electricmonk9 5 points6 points7 points 6 months ago
How do you choose which parts to believe?
[–]RationalUniversalist -3 points-2 points-1 points 6 months ago
Common sense
So you apply YOUR personal morals to decide what to listen to from the bible. Why do you need the bible at all if you trust yourself to make rational decisions?
[–]RationalUniversalist -2 points-1 points0 points 6 months ago
No, my starting point is religion, then I take what both me and religion agree on and apply that to my life.
My personal morality if only one half, and its not the same as your secular humanism. Believe in that "sin" and "evil" are things that exists weather religion is true or not, but choose to draw the line using religion as a moral arbitrary line of where good and bad ends. In my personal morality I do not function well in society because I am a sociopath. I do not believe in universal truths even with dealing with the morality's of "GOD" whatever that means I subscribe to divine command theory.
Religion is what keeps me normal.
[–]electricmonk9 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
If religion is the only thing keeping you from murdering people then I want to see you in church every Sunday. Unfortunately that has no bearing on whether your beliefs are right, only that they are able to control you through fear.
Where do your specific religious beliefs come from?
If religion is the only thing keeping you from murdering people then I want to see you in church every Sunday.
lol I never said I was a psychopath that's a nice strawman you have there. That said under certain circumstances I do think some people should be killed not necessarily by me but by the people. I am pro death penalty for example and I think it should be applied to rapists and multiple offense thief's.
Unfortunately that has no bearing on whether your beliefs are right, only that they are able to control you through fear.
You have me wrong, I was an atheist until my late teens. Unlike many I don't fear death or even punishment although I do not believe in a literal hell to begin with. I like Christianity because of the way it teaches that humans are inherently broken. That and I like the compassion and teachings of Christ, I may not completely agree with him but none the less I choose to live by his teachings as it keeps me normal and people seem to like my christian side.
As for god I don't know if there is one I have always been agnostic but I changed my belief from atheism to theism because I can't convince myself that there is not some sort of creator.
Atheists especially on this subbreddit often like to post images with text talking about how great they think the universe is and how that beauty would not apply if there were some sort of god. Us theists see it the opposite way, its just a difference in opinion as beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
[–]Kowzorz 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
I am a sociopath. ... I never said I was a psychopath
There is no clinical difference between sociopath and psychopath. Colloquially, the difference is knowledge of evil. Psychopaths are incapable of understanding their actions are evil whereas sociopaths are cognizant of their actions' consequences and still act in that manner.
I suggest you look into Buddhism. Many of their beliefs share a common thread with the teachings of Jesus and you don't have to deal with all the bullshit of the rest of the bible.
Why can't you convince yourself that there isn't some sort of creator? Evidence already supports that there wasn't a creator of the human species (do you accept this as truth?) or of the earth (how about this?) and probably of the universe itself (how about this?). Plus, this posits the question if "who created the creator?" which has no proper answer because if you say "bob did it!" one can simply reply with "who created bob?" and either this ends in an infinite regression (which so very rarely occur in reality, if at all. I can't think of a single instance) or it just adds unnecessary steps. One can simply stop at "who created the universe?" "it always existed"/"it just popped into existence".
I can understand people seeing God's beauty in things, but it's of my opinion that there is greater beauty in understanding how things work. I think few theists would say that the HIV virus is beautiful, yet to someone who understands the workings of the virus, it's a very beautiful thing to behold and understand (despite the bad outcome at the end), imagining the dance of sub-cell objects as they are attacked by infected objects.

Sociopathy is a loosely-defined term that may be used to refer to: Antisocial personality disorder Psychopathy
Sociopathy is a loosely-defined term that may be used to refer to:
Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) is described by the DSM-IV, as an Axis II personality disorder characterized by "...a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood.
I prefer being an atheism over being a sociopath!

If you were created in FSM's image, you'd look like pasta. That's all I meant.

Well, shit...
[–]Little_Mouse 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
So, I must ask:
If you have already come to the conclusion that some parts of the bible are false, why do you assume that the rest must be true?
Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to start from what you know to be true (based on evidence) and work from there?
I mean, if you don't believe say, the 7 day creation, the flood, the exodus, Hell, or anything like that, it just looks from my perspective that you are agreeing with the good parts of the bible (be nice to folks and such) and ignoring the bad parts.
Most atheists with a decent moral code also agree with the philosophy of the good parts of the bible, but they don't ignore the inconvenient parts.
So I guess my question really boils down to this: if you have already come to the conclusion that parts of the bible are demonstrably false, why do you call yourself a Christian?
