  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  6. No animated images. Please submit them to /r/gif, /r/gifs, or /r/reactiongifs instead.

                                                                You could do it for a few hundred bucks, and get all of the equipment from amazon, online plastic suppliers, and a local hardware store. It would look almost the same as the OP, too.

                                                                                          Knowing when you're going to pop off of a climb, and how to fall in a controlled manner are both skills that you have to learn in climbing. An inexperienced climber, on wet, slippery holds is going to take some flailing falls. I don't know if there would be a big problem with hitting other holds on the way down in most falls, but the horrifying "almost worst case scenario" that I can see happening is that someone starts falling, reaches and partially grabs a lower hold, but pings off, resulting in a spinning, crazy fall trajectory back into the wall or close to the pool coping/deck.

                                                                                            How do you routeset on that thing? Plus, climbing barefoot sucks. Also, the texture on normal holds would eat through wet skin pretty quickly.

                                                                                            And think about the first time you did any climbing - totally sketchy, right? Now think about your first experience climbing, barefoot DWSing on kinds slippery holds.... I see lots of out of control, desperate, flailing falls, slapping the water in nasty ways. (Remember that falling in a controlled way, say feet first straight down as you want to do DWSing, is a learned skill.)

                                                                                            This whole thing adds up to "not much fun for experienced climbers, and kinda dangerous for noobs."

I think the whole point IS the struggle to climb it, followed by the panic that would ensue when you fall, followed by hitting the water in unexpected ways and the calmness afterward when you realize you're okay.                                                                                                   I tried the rock wall on a cruise ship once. The holds were all jugs - but they were all caked over with melted rubber from the rental shoes and coated with a layer of sunscreen. A few of the holds were loose and would just spin when you grabbed them.

                                                                                                  It was like climbing a wall that fought back.
