I don't know how that's possible. Does he actually have a background in biology, or is he one of those cases of a football coach who was given a textbook to teach so he could coach there?

I think Neil DeGrasse Tyson had it right. This isn't a "religion in the classroom" issue, it's a "keep stupid teachers out of the classroom" issue.

Well hell, anyone can teach biology if they adhere to the central organizing principle of the entire science. A real teacher doesn't rely on crutches like that though, nosiree--a real teacher gets out there and shows the kids just how much is possible if you ignore 150 years of peer-reviewed evidence and replace it with bronze-age campfire stories backed by millenia of fear and repression. Yep. That's one mighty tough teacher ya got there.

Or maybe they just use their position to sow doubt and lies in the minds with whose care they are entrusted.

In the same boat here. My Anatomy teacher told our class on the the first day that she is a devout christian and that she is "forced" to teach evolution. I just don't get it..
