top 200 commentsshow all 313

[–]Autogrex 41 points42 points ago

Holy fuck, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. The fucking look on that guy's face is priceless. I've seen the clips of this show so many times that it makes me sick, but this completely made it absolutely hilarious.
Well done.

[–]SynthPrax 200 points201 points ago*

OH. MY. GOD. This is from somekinda avant garde dance performance, and it is FUCKING HILARIOUS. If I can find video of it, I'll update this post.

EDIT: Here it is!!! If I was in that theater, I would have been crying with laughter, rolling all over the floor in complete hysterics.

[–]Turkalator 98 points99 points ago

No! Here it is! At 3:55.

[–]seviiens 92 points93 points ago

I enjoy the authority with which he walks on to the stage. Like he's going to bang his metal penis against that rack and no one's going to stop him.

[–]riversofgore 23 points24 points ago

Stop him? They're going to cheer for him!

[–]LolerCoaster 1 point2 points ago

I was unnerved by how prominent his nipples looked.

[–]oSand 2 points3 points ago

They did some shit to their nipples, assuming it's not normal for them to glow in the dark.

[–]imanerd000 6 points7 points ago

it's not? damnit mom.

[–]Owen3781 16 points17 points ago

When people started clapping at about the 2:30 minute mark I fucking died.

[–]SamWhite 4 points5 points ago

That entire dance had me laughing my arse off. Especially when he just started jumping up and down on the spot.

[–]Balloons_lol 23 points24 points ago

I found this easy to masturbate to.

[–]arctickangaroos 1 point2 points ago

I guess that answers my question. I was trying to figure out if this was some form of porn... perhaps for handicapped people?

[–]vertigo1083 2 points3 points ago

The first part of this video made me think that someone attempted to cross "The Fifth Element" with the special olympics.

[–]comparedtotrees 9 points10 points ago

Who the fuck thought this was a good idea? Just, honestly...

[–]oSand 7 points8 points ago

I thought it was pretty cool.

[–]superxpro12 1 point2 points ago

Man, the Vagina Monologues are not what I remember.

[–]riversofgore 4 points5 points ago

Oh shit! There's titties? Ok!

[–]BroadStreetElite 15 points16 points ago

Konami presents: Silent Hill On Broadway

[–]mydogdoesntcuddle 13 points14 points ago

I've seen this so many times. It never stops being funny to me. They cut out one of my favorite parts in this version though. Check out the clip in B) from :51 to about 1:42. I can't decide if my favorite part of this whole thing is either

A) The part in your video between 6 and 7 minutes where the women in reverse jock straps, pasties, and what appears to be toilet plungers strapped to their heads don C crutches and start frolicking together like playful antelope

Or

B) the part in this video around :51 where a guy in a diaper on a skateboard pelvic thrusts his way across the stage in the background while 2 chicks ballet fight each other whilst suspended in harnesses.

[–]GreatGo0glyMo0gly 17 points18 points ago

[–]jt_89 6 points7 points ago

oh PLEASE can someone lay over the text "skaters gonna skate" over this!!

[–]chwilliam 4 points5 points ago

Our favorite part of part A) was the guy who starts hip thrusting across the stage on a scooter at the end. I swear there's a video that shows more of it, but it makes this hilariously awkward squeaking sound as he does it.

[–]mydogdoesntcuddle 0 points1 point ago

The video that shows more is in B)

[–]Ali1191 1 point2 points ago

Possibly the funniest thing i have seen in my life. Thankyou for sharing this with me.

[–]McToasterz 43 points44 points ago

[–]PromKing 8 points9 points ago

at this point i just broke out laughing...

[–]Clint_Torres 44 points45 points ago

I would imagine it being easier to explain to your parents that you were a gay porn star....

Dad: So son, how is that fancy pants art degree paying off nowadays?

Son: Well dad, I'm part of something much bigger than myself. Something so visually striking, something so groundbreaking, something so original it can only be described as "art."

Dad: Well can you at least try to explain?

Son: uh okay... Well, keep in mind a lot of what I do is a metaphor for the insatiable hunger that fuels each man to pursue what is truly meaningful to themselves regardless of physical limitations...

Dad: Well of course son, come on let's hear it.

Son: Well, I'm completely naked save for a strap on metal rod. I then thrust said rod into a set of monkey bars with my pelvis..

Dad: I'm listening.

Son: ..yeah, and it's really quite cool, I actually do this all while maintaining my balance with a set of crutches and a lacey pair of slippers...

Dad: Now wait a damn minute here son. When you say...

Son: Dad, I'm a porn star alright? I get paid to let others film me having sex with other men.

Dad: Well thank god! When you said lacy slippers I thought you were going to tell me you were a ballerina or something gay like that. No shame in a hard days work son. Continue making me proud.

[–]TheTwist 37 points38 points ago

How can anyone think this is gay?

[–]Sworm 6 points7 points ago

I....I have no words that can describe this.

but holy shit, is it funny!

[–]oSand 5 points6 points ago

It's gay and awesome. Like Neil Patrick Harris.

[–]Ulti 2 points3 points ago

Well, you made me wake up my neighbors, good job.

[–]LongWalksOnTheBeach 15 points16 points ago

I was looking for the gif but it never came! It never came!

[–]dragn99 5 points6 points ago

Right near the end, the prop was there. All they needed was the guy with the stick on his dick.

[–]SveNss0N 9 points10 points ago

What the fuck did I just watch

[–]binaryspiral 2 points3 points ago

I watched you make a statement.

It's funny because you forgot the question mark. Amirite?

[–]mesosorry 11 points12 points ago

[–]spacecadet06 5 points6 points ago

It's not finished.

[–]Vicker3000 5 points6 points ago

It's finished.

[–]byuntae 4 points5 points ago

I have the weirdest boner right now.

[–]Wyrmshadow 6 points7 points ago

It's shit like this that make people want to kill the NEA.

[–]TheKronk 6 points7 points ago

I like how the dude wearing pants was the one who looked out of place.

[–]Chachamaru 36 points37 points ago

People pay to see this shit? I can see people wearing monocles and smoking from a pipe going "Mmm, yes, I can see their statement on todays politics"

[–]TheKronk 43 points44 points ago*

While I totally get where you're coming from, and yes there's a degree of "the fuck were you smoking," the actual intention of this video is actually really well done. It's basically asking "how do we define our bodies?" For example, if you were to see a man with a prosthetic arm, you wouldn't think "what the fuck is that," so these dancers are answering questions like at the 5:15 mark, "how would a five limbed creature dance?" Consider that there is little difference between their ballerina pointed toes and the nubs at the ends of the walkers. The lady making the monkey noises, however, was just a product of really good drugs, I'm sure of it.

Edit:you're

[–]GalacticUnicorn 11 points12 points ago

I just spent about half an hour watching these dancers, and I must say, I was impressed. I didn't see anything that had to do with politics. To me, it seemed to be a statement about love and finding beauty in the bizarre.

[–]brainburger 2 points3 points ago

It's technically quite advanced too. Those guys train all their lives to be able to bring us this. They mean it man.

[–]ChronicallyHappy 11 points12 points ago

Look I'm all for arts but I've never really thought "how would a five limbed creature dance?" I mean, that isn't really something I really care about, or need to know.

[–]stranglehold 22 points23 points ago

Philistine!

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points ago

So, uh...it's not for you then?

I don't get why "I personally don't like it" automatically means "It's stupid" for a majority of the population, reddit included...

[–]climbrocker 5 points6 points ago

To be fair, there's a threshold for the general population where opinion and popular taste divide. For example, peanut butter consistency is something that people would say "I personally don't like this/that" and could explain why. An art performance like this, however, is much harder to rationalize to people outside of a certain field. Now, I agree with you- not being popular is no measure of quality or stupidity. But understand that something that reaches the extremes, whether it be an 800 page book on nuclear fission or an art performance with dancing prosthetic creatures, is and will be something that is reasonably undesired by the masses, and considered unworthy of their time or thought. But to those who enjoy it, the value is intrinsic and the general public's judgement meaningless anyway.

[–]ChronicallyHappy 2 points3 points ago

Haha, I'm just saying that this is a bit silly (it seems like that is partly the point). Sometimes art can be a bit over the top, I think this is a good example.

[–]TheKronk 7 points8 points ago

And yet a painting commissioned for the del Giocondo family and their new home and to celebrate the birth of their second son, Andrea is somehow relevant? (Wikipedia page; think about my question before you find out what this links to) http://tinyurl.com/ycb2y5

[–]ChronicallyHappy 1 point2 points ago

I think I see what you are saying. I just don't find the concept they are exploring that interesting, and frankly, a bit silly. It is just like how I don't find the Mona Lisa that interesting. I don't see what an painter, or a dancer, might see.

[–]loller 1 point2 points ago

And the fact that someone commissioned all of this, it gets displayed in a theater, and for whatever reason, they decided to make everyone naked. I bet they'd mask the nudity with a pretentious reason too.

"They discard their clothes just as a five-legged creature would discard its shame, wafting on the rhythmic winds...then dancing on top of some bitches' heads."

[–]brainburger 1 point2 points ago

I bet they'd mask the nudity with a pretentious reason too.

Nudity isn't really that shocking in the art world. This piece is particularly about bodies, so the costumes are minimal and accentuate this.

I guess some people are easily shocked.

[–]loller 1 point2 points ago

Not sure why you immediately went to shocked. I'm from the Internet, I don't know what shocked is. Minimal is fine. I'm just saying there was a conscious decision to have floppy (well, as floppy as those A-cups can get) boobs, and costumes that don't cover anything.

[–]Dantayl 21 points22 points ago

This sort of art is incredibly weird, but you must understand that it is intentionally weird. They are exploring things which more accepted forms of entertainment don't.

A lot of the entertainment industry relies on people doing weird things, exploring the concept in a very rough and unrefined way, so that someone can see it and adapt it in to something better. Basically this sort of thing is the stepping stone to creating something worth watching by the masses.

It's the weird stuff that leads to the creation of ideas that such as sci-fi or fantasy, even if it is just a certain movement that looks interesting and is then incorporated in to the animation of an alien creature in a film.

What these people are doing are creating is a massive source of inspiration for the next generation of entertainment, by exploring things people haven't done before. Yes, it's freaky as hell, hilarious and makes very little sense, but it does have real importance. If it weren't for the nutters coming up with strange ideas, we'd be stuck in the same generation of entertainment.

The only downside is that those involved in the weird stuff can often seem and act pretentious, which is why it's so open to mockery. Having sat through something like this and listening to them afterwards, you'd think they were appointed by a deity with all the boasting and big-headedness.

[–]Shaysdays 1 point2 points ago

even if it is just a certain movement that looks interesting and is then incorporated in to the animation of an alien creature in a film.

I was watching it waiting for Summer Glau to come onstage.

[–]sakredfire 0 points1 point ago*

Cool perspective. I like to think of art as memetic "mutation." This can even be applied to our material culture, in fields like photography which (I think? warning: guesswork, aka bullshit) developed as an art in avant garde circles until it could be used for practical, mainstream purposes more people could understand. This can also be seen in music, where odd blips and beeps, sampled speech, and other bizarre noises figured prominently in avant garde "music" until producers started taking notice and incorporating those sort of sounds first in obscure electronica acts, then increasingly in mainstream music. Like an extra copy of one gene that eventually mutates into another gene with an entirely different function, art is a cultural "sandbox" where ideas are first created for the sake of just being ideas, set aside, and refined over subsequent iterations until they grow in valence, influencing the zeitgeist in some intangible way that somehow arranges the networks of neurons in our heads so that collectively, society as a whole becomes just a little bit more fit.

[–]CitizenPremier 67 points68 points ago

I like it. The dancers are moving in a way that is very inhuman. It makes me look at their bodies differently.

I'd take this over any other ballet.

[–]dexemplu 4 points5 points ago

You like it because it's interesting to look at, not because it actually tells you something. The creators failed, they made a show that's stuck in an over-analyzed loophole. The only people that will get it are the ones involved. It's no different than that bitch shoving expired spaghetti up her woman hole.

[–]CitizenPremier 2 points3 points ago

You like it because it's interesting to look at

I can't think of how that's bad.

[–]TheSecretMe 23 points24 points ago

Pay? I considered flying out to London to see it at the time. But the show was already out of theatre before I got around to it.

[–]oSand 3 points4 points ago

Fuck no. I pay to see Micheal Bay's take on how an animator should make the Decepticons fight the Autobots. This is just some elitist art bullshit, like all those paintings that don't look like the stuff they're supposed to look like.

[–]mc_finnishstereotype 4 points5 points ago

People also pays to see Nickelback. I think this would be more bang for the buck.

[–]poiro 0 points1 point ago

Have you watched the whole series? If you watch the whole series it starts to make more sense. At first it was difficult to watch but then I got into it. But overall the theme is, for me anyway, that even though they are constrained and limited b/c of the various canes, crutches, etc that they don't let that hold them back and in fact they find a way to incorporate those elements and form them into an artistic vision.

Pretty deep for a youtube comment

[–]short_balding_guy 0 points1 point ago

If you listen to the video, the audience is laughing at times, hooting and hollering and clapping. It's supposed to provoke a reaction and considering how often it shows up in /r/WTF, it succeeds. I agree with the others who also enjoy it.

[–]DeaditeAsh 1 point2 points ago

Was that the story of a ballerina that got in some kind of legs-crippling accident and was going through the emotional and physical hardships of recovery and struggle to be her former self?

[–]Thegreatergatsby 1 point2 points ago

This is actually one of the scariest things I've seen in my life.

[–]DaVincitheReptile 1 point2 points ago

that's the type of shit that will give me nightmares.

[–]agbullet 1 point2 points ago

Silent Hill and Swan Lake had a baby.

[–]CNDNFighter 1 point2 points ago

I would have been kicked out of that theatre faster than I care to imagine. My behaviour would be hysterical and completely inappropriate for most public situations.

[–]brainburger 1 point2 points ago

This dance is technically pretty impressive. A lot of work and talent has gone into this. You have to admit the result is striking.

[–]SynthPrax 1 point2 points ago

Yes. This is technically very impressive and very, very well realized and executed. That said, it's still high-larious as hell.

If I were to have entered the theater knowing what to expect, my histrionics would have been tempered. However... Take this example: Years ago I saw "Naked Lunch" with a friend who won free tickets to its screening. All either of us knew was that it was based on a book by some Beatnik poet (blah blah important movement in 20th century literature blah blah drugs politics blah blah). So we were expecting something moderately serious. Before long I was literally rolling on the floor completely hysterical with laughter. My friend was too. What made it worse (funnier) was we were the only people laughing in the whole theater. To this day, that is the funniest movie I have ever seen.

[–]whocares2021 1 point2 points ago

Same group. I lost it when the granny masks came out.

[–]aveygt 1 point2 points ago

how is that on youtube?

[–]mydogdoesntcuddle 2 points3 points ago

you have to be signed in to youtube and be over 18 to view it.

[–]down_vote_magnet 2 points3 points ago

Everyone with an account on the Internet is over 18.

[–]Rainfly_X 0 points1 point ago

As awkward as it must be on actual performance day, I can't even imagine what it's like during dress rehearsals.

Performance art is always the most hilariously stupid art, so the kind of denial and determined reasoning that must go into convincing yourself not to quit immediately, is truly extraordinary and worth studying.

[–]OneofYourFiveaDay 0 points1 point ago

I cant believe I just watched all of that.

[–]nokstar 0 points1 point ago*

I respect the arts, theater, musicals, broadway, all that stuff but this... This kind of feels like its something someone that was big in the art industry said was good and everyone just nods their head.

This stuff makes no sense, try to pretty it up with all the words you want. It's nothing but flailing around to random noises, sporadic sounds, moaning, mumbling and weird yelling. BUT, it's considered art because people are doing all of this practically naked (which I don't mind :P).

[–]NickGraves 0 points1 point ago

The part where that guy wheels himself by pelvic thrusting across the stage when it's completely quiet got me. All you hear is some metal banging and this squeak sound everytime he nudges himself.

[–]Flash_Johnson 0 points1 point ago

[–]voxinverse 0 points1 point ago

It's like a Lady Gaga video!

[–]SchroeKatz 0 points1 point ago

Its from a German-French art channel. Most of the stuff on there is somewhat like this. It's awesome.

[–]zaper002 0 points1 point ago

Is this the one where a guy air-humps his way across the stage on a skateboard?

[–]Dontfeedthebears 0 points1 point ago

It's intriguing and funny but also makes me very very uncomfortable.

[–]acehigh213 3 points4 points ago

[–]freudwasright 8 points9 points ago

It's from a really weird French film called The Marquis, about the Marquis de Sade. I don't know enough about the historical to figure to say if any of the events in the film actually happened... It could just be really weird porn. Everyone in the film has the head of some kind of animal.

Also, The Marquis's penis talks and is named Colin. Pretty sure he eventually runs away with the French Revolutionists. The penis, I mean, not the Marquis.

[–]Spiderbeard 5 points6 points ago

Sounds like I know what I'll watch today.

[–]freudwasright 1 point2 points ago

Judging by the comments, it appears my assumption is valid in this case.
