It's all fun and games till the mom thinks you are too close to her baby and then BAM, you are flying 6 feet in the air and looking at a tramplin. I saw it happen to this blonde chick once in India. She went up to the baby when the elephant guy had his back turned and started petting him. What she didn't realize was that the mommy elephant was a few feet away keeping a close eye on her baby and when she saw a stranger she went into action. She started running towards the girl bellowing and kicking up dust. The smoke and the sounds made it hard to see but she landed with a thump and spun around to charge anyone who dared to get any closer while simultaneously whipping out a shoulder-fired missile and aiming at the mutant panther on the other side of the road. The road and the buildings exploded in a sweeping arc, fire fell out of the sky, the chick lost most her clothes and I barely made it out of there.

I watched a program about elephants a few years ago that said that elephants are the only mammals (aside from humans) that when faced with danger run towards each other to help rather than away to save themselves. I find that so unbelievably touching. Elephant fan 4 life.

This is a wonderful picture.

Elephants are pretty sweet animals, though. When I visited my extended family in India about 4 years ago, we went to one of the major zoos in Orissa, the state of India we were visiting. While we were there, we got to see tigers and shit. It was pretty cool.

I think the best part of it, though, was seeing the elephants. There are caretakers for the elephants there whose only job is to make sure that the elephants are clean. They have elephant washing stations and shit that serve the dual purpose of cleaning the elephants and the tour bus used inside the tiger enclosement.

Baby elephants are really accepting of people, too. An elephant that was pretty much like this one petted me on the head. It was tight. It was supposed to be a blessing from the god Ganesh. The trunks are leathery as fuck, but they're surprisingly gentle! The trunk just kind of wormed its way around on top of my head, gently patting me here and there.

Then it spat water from its trunk into my face.

Not all of India is hot and humid. The northern regions are pretty cold. I think this was taken in those regions.
